Hot Gossip & Pans People. Okay...Lennon & Benty Off

The choice of Anon 9.37 and many a (metal) guru before and after him...

And here's what I have for you, my dears...

Lennon may well be sold.

Bottom line is Moniz (yes, skills coach to the stars and it is rumoured, Martin Jol's Ham & Burger Army) feels the winged heeled one isn’t improving and we have given him a lot of time and he’s still not taking it in and delivering on the pitch. So word is Senior Ramos won't hesitate in selling whilst his market his value is still high.

FLASHHEART: Oh, that's a piece of luck. Thought I'd landed sausage-side! Ha!
And so may Darren Bent be yet.

Franz Carr, has been asked to broker a deal for Bent to Hamburg. A fee of £11m has been agreed and he now has the option of moving out to the Fatherland.

All I can say is you heard it here... at some point.

I see some bloke on Spurs Odious is saying we haven't had any bids in for Berbatov. Loyal reader, be assured as a result, I have handed matters over to my attorneys at law, Darth Vader & Sons this very evening. How very dare they.

Wasn't it Legs and Co. that replaced Pans People Harry? I'm feeling my age now, godammit.

Oh yeah, and you Lennon, you can fuck off as well. 2 years later and you still can't cross the fucking ball. Mr. Ginola would laugh at you right to your face.

Anonymous said...

moniz is still at the club, but u couldnt be further from the truth harry. There is no way we would sell Lennon people forget the kid is still 21 still learning his trade, and ramos is one of his biggest fans, highlighting him as one of the biggest threats to his sevilla side last year. Compare lennons age with swp who is 26! his still got loads to offer the club and I bet my left nut he's still a spurs player next season.

Harry, your losing it again. U had it , then lost, try to get it back for your loyal supporters. You can do better than this garbage.

I still feel that when it comes to players like Lennon and Jenas, in terms of not delivering, it is partly down to the lack of older players around to give them some experience.

Theres only so much coaching can do but its the experience you get on the pitch around older and better players that seems to work best.

That or being around stonking natural talent...let hope Modric can provide that.

Just so I don't sound like a complete tit though, look at Ronaldo now compared to as little as 2 years ago. He still hogs the ball a little bit...but he has learnt to release when necessary, he knows when to make runs, where to cross etc...most of it is obviously down to the fact the lad has got skill in abundance but you can guarantee Scholes and Giggs had something to do with it as well.

As for Bent, I stuck up for him but if he goes I'm hardly going to shed a tear.

wouldnt be too arsed to see lennon go, especially if we got bentley i to replace him.

lets face it, stephen hawking would be a better crosser of the ball.

as for benty, i still think he'll come good if he stays.

Anonymous said...

whoever plays on the right for spurs is going to have problems until we can provide a balanced midfield with a left sided player to stretch the play as much as possible....can't blame Lennon for being found out by Premier league defenders, he is our main outlet on the break and with little or no outlet on the right, opposition right backs can generally put their feet up(with the exception of Bhoularouz who got left on his blue backside by Keano)....

Anonymous said...

My feeling is that we should keep Lennon, he is only 21 and he won't be getting worse... He is a good player who has a weakness in his final ball.
He will improve and when he does he will be fantastic. As for Bent, he will score goals but I do not think he is technically gifted enough to play in a "Ramos system".

H, I know I keep harping on about this Dos Santos, but if we get him I will be over the moon..

Good stuff H.

Anonymous said...

Harry - just after you posted this it's revealed we 'could' sign Dos Santos(I believe it when it's on the offical website). Now why did your 'sources' not tell you of this? Instead you came up with some insider who reackons our seal trainer says we are selling Lennon and Bent!!! Rubbish.

Q the Dos Santos ''breaking news'' by HH.

Anonymous said...

Ahh, Pan's People. Babs, Dee Dee and my favourite - Cherry. Too many birds these days look like blokes with big boobs and blonde wigs. All those implants and toning work-outs, I reckon. Yerk. I doff my cap, H.

Fcuk me, what a world of surprises we live in. Lennon off, Bent off. Modric in, Dos Santos (maybe) in. What next - Robinson actually catches a ball in training?

Oh, and some other minor stuff about the search for life on Mars (probably more life and intelligence there than in John Terry's head).

The skills issue is a chewy one. Why do players (exposed to equal opportunities) develop further than others? You'd think with the right coaching, diligence and practice that wonders could be worked - and sometimes they are. But big influences on the outcome are the personal player variables: physiognomy, balance, intelligence, muscle-mass, dexterity, etc. etc.. Point is, a natural aptitude to skill helps a player grow - as does a natural aptitude to development. I reckon Lennon (e.g.) doesn't have it. It pains many a Spurs fan to admit it, but the little nipper seems to have hit a ceiling.

For a coach, it's the difference between using malleable and rigid material.

i dont think lennon will be off either and i will give my right bollock' of he does so you will have a pair if he goes, one other thing harry always has something half decent to say and when an article appears on newsnow i read it everytime but theres always a load of jiberish somewhere in the article whats all that about and is it relevant?

Unknown said...

Do you remember Lennon's first season? Uninhibited, full of confidence and an england call up. Then we sign Berby and the bollockings started and I think this has had a direct affect with his game and confidence and lord knows what he felt when keano was at him in the same game. Senior players are supposed to cojoul younger players not berate them and Berby didn't care at all just as long as he didn't have to run after the ball or a defender. It was interesting that no Spurs player ever expressed disappointment over some of the atrocious elements that crept into berby's game last season and i often wonder what that would have done for the team? Against Reading we had two gamers upfront and won away against a team fighting for their lives. The next week berby's in and the side didn't have the same dynamics at all. Lennon's form is in direct alignment with Berbatov's attitude as is the teams...

a cursury glace through the archives of this blog and you will soon see that Harry was on to the possibility of signing of Dos Santos months ago..

on the subject of Bent..€11 million? seems to good to be true.. if it is we should grasp it with both hands.. this also implies (if true) that Berba has decided to stay..

as for Lennon..not really pushed either way.. i's still say it's worth hanging on to him..

back to Dos Santos.. it seems that him and Bojan were the two major hopes for the future but it is the latter who has shown the most promise.. and perhaps that's Barca's reason for letting him go..

also if the trend of Summer signings continue like this it really will spell the end for Jenas, Zokora et al.. which would be quite pleasant..

Anonymous said...

Sam, don't be silly..

Unknown said...

I am somewhat inclined to agree with that. The penultimate game of the season when Keane and Bent started was much better in terms of pace and general togetherness.

Compare that to the Liverpool game which was, in all honesty, an absolute fucking bore.

Anonymous said...

Sam? you make a massive point, it could be a factor

Anonymous said...

Sam - you make some very worthwhile and interesting points. I agree wholeheartedly. It all boils down to the same - the sooner Berbarot goes, the better.

Unknown said...

Ever since united expressed an interest in berbatov the lot's gone in my opinion and it's been obvious to all of us but we don't want to admit it because on his day there's nobody better (Bolton at the lane last year for instance.) I cannot recall one instant where Berbatov chased a lost cause or ran down a defender after The carling cup but that could be said of any performance from him post United interest. Like an idiot he failed to realise that any sound manager is going to question Berbatov's penchant to give up when the chips are down and that is most likely the reason for the lack of interest for his signature as opposed to a year 6 months ago. The quicker he's gone the better the dynamics but I fear he's done himself and the eventual transfer fee a world of damage up to now. I want Bent's pace, Greavsies killer instint, Keano's impishness and Berbatov's touch and Milito looks close if not unknown. Dos santos? We go from Etoo to Dos santos in a Barcelona minute! Drama, drama, drama...

Anonymous said...

Just as an aside, with Jol now at Hamburg, what's the odds we could take van de Vaart off his hands? (Knowing our luck, it's more likely to be Atouba !!!)

Anonymous said...

Sam i agree with your second post there.. but not the first.. one cannot excuse Lennon from poor performances because of Berba or anyone else for that matter..

Dannyboy.. i like the Van der Vaart suggestion, well done..

but calling Berbatov 'Berbarot' is quite childish and aside from that it really is a poor effort at a play on words.. must try harder..

onedavemackay said...

So Sam, Lennon's poor passing is Berba's fault. You may be right.

His constant lack of appreciation of Lennon's ability to beat 4 men and then smash the ball into the stands is mystifying and clearly the way Jenus only plays well 3 times a season is also down to having a top class striker in front of him. In fact Lennon and Jenus looked so much better when Bent was playing I'm surprised Berbatov ever started a game.

And another thing, I'm sure I read somewhere that Berbatov was responsible for the Northern Rock fiasco. It seems a lot of bankers were offended by the angle of his Alice band.

Anonymous said...

Bent wont be tying up any transfers while he's on holiday in Texas. ;)

The Dos Santos rumours have been around for a couple of weeks and would represent a great signing for Tottenham if true.

Though still only 19, he is regarded in Spain as the heir apparent to Ronaldinho in the Barcelona team, though yet to really impose himself on games with any consistency, he is a player of great promise, but I'm sure at the reported £11m fee many fans will expect the finished article.

sam does make a good point in the way that footy to a large extent is about confidence and if you know you will be barracked for every miss placed pass etc you will be thinking about it too much, trying too hard etc rather than just doing it instinctively its obviously not exclusively berbas fault for lennons bad delivery but don't help either and like sam said is bad for team morale .believe it or not berba miss places passes and no one does it to him,if he had class he would encourage our young players to bring the best out of them rather than knock them down but he's only interested in playing for himself ,he's proved it time and time again (hence no bids)

this maligning of berbatov is getting out of hand. i can't believe that i'm now hearing that he has a detrimental effect on Jenas and Lennon. if that's true, it's only because they can't play up to his standards and they end up being embarrassed by not being able to finish an opportunity his handed them on a silver platter. let's not forget that ramos has had to employ berbatov in the creative midfielder role because Jenas (nor anyone else) can't do it properly.

If that was any other player they'd get lambasted for not scoring, as it was Berbat*v no-one said a fecking word.

Anonymous said...

It can't do a player's confidence any good to get regular public bo11ockings from a 'team-mate', but I still think Lennon lacks force and accuracy in his delivery and shot. He has a tongue in his mouth - he ought to repay Berba the favour.

If Lennon were as big as Tom, maybe Berba would think twice before berating him. He's a big lad, that Tom. During the games under Jol, when he was at his biggest, he was fitted with a backchat alarm that announced 'Stand Well Clear: Vehicle Reversing' whenever he moved backwards.

park lane nomad;

Great point about the 4-4 miss. I did make the point that if it was Bent who had fluffed his lines he'd have been crucified on this very blog... in fact he should have squared the ball to Bent!

I agree that Berbatov/Berbarot/Berbatosser, whatever you want to call him should go. Unfortunately there seems to be a lack of interest... hmmm, why could that be? He's a perfectionist? Really? He strikes me as a talented "someone" who is less than perfect himself and refuses to take the blame for his own errors and IMO in his second season constantly pointed the finger elsewhere. Which as I have said many times before is not good for his team mates' confidence. He does little or no encouraging to speak of. He has evidently grasped enough of the English language to realise he is recognised as a very talented player. Unfortunately this has translated into him thinking he is "better than". And he obviously wants to play elsewhere, so the Berba lovers should come to terms with this.

As for you Bimi... with your witch hunt - burning him at the stake comment? A bit OTT, methinks. It's OK for us to come on here to criticise a player who wants to play and does try (i.e. Bent slagging etc.), but not a player who actually appears to want away from Spurs?

Regarding the Dos Santos comments/speculation, He is apparently very keen to leave Barcelona and suggested over a month ago if he did exit the Nou Camp it would not be on a loan basis. He was quoted as saying as far as he was concerned, it would be a permanent exit if it were to happen.

And regarding this post's subject. I'll be a bit disappointed if Bent did go, since I don't think he's had a fair crack of the whip. Lennon, hmmm. A season playing without Berbatov in the side could do wonders for him! It would not shock me if he did regain his confidence playing for another side, either. If Bentley joined I could understand if we did get shot of him.

Still, the bottom line for me is this; I support Spurs more than I support individuals.

onedavemackay said...

I've never said Berba's great and the rest are crap.

Keano missed a one on one against United at the lane and nobody slagged him either. Bimi is right, no-one moans as much as Keano, why is nobody accusing him of undermining his team mates and being grouchy ?

I'm beginning to wonder how many of you who complain about him actually see him play that often. I can remember many times him helping out in defence, chasing lost cause balls and yes, applauding his team mates and putting his arm around their shoulder.

Did nobody else see this ?

Maybe I should lay off the Madeira wine ?

mysterious stranger..

i know only too well your views on this matter but anyway..

regarding the 4-4 Berba miss (can't belive i'm being drawn back into this arguement).. after dragging Spurs back into the game with, yes mysterious stranger, a goal (one of his 20-odd this season) he then did go on to inexplicably miss a fantastic chance.. but if you watch the replays again you will see that he should NOT have passed to Bent.. and that's not saying anything bad about Benty coz in fairness he had taken up a good position BUT there was a man closing in on him very quickly from behind and had the ball been squared he would have been closed down and the chance gone..

still on Benty he has shown only one instance of potential this season and that his assist for one of the goals against Pompey at the Lane.. but that is it.. lack of appearances or not he has SO FAR proven himself to lack a football brain comparable to the partnership Berb and Keano..and before i get vilified... i said SO FAR so who's to say he won't go on to develop one.. it's a big maybe though..

Good points shanemac, especially concerning Berbatov effectively having to assume two roles (playmaker and striker) because others weren't up to the task. Jenas and Lennon should think themselves lucky that they're playing on the same pitch as Berbatov, let alone getting bollocked by him for their obvious failings. No, until Berbatov has officially gone it's pure idiocy to start slating him now. What if he does stay, will you lot of Berbahaters not cheer when he scores? I know he's been a moody cunt, but, as I've said before, with a couple more decent midfield signings (and yes mysterious stranger, I do think Modric is quality) Berbamightbeov's attidude will change.

Reports coming from Spanish newspaper Diario de Sevilla today are claiming that Spurs have agreed a four year deal for 20-year-old Sevilla winger Diego Capel after meeting the €15million (approximately £12million) buy out clause stated in the players contract.

The deal however is believed to be held up by a tax dispute between the two clubs with Spurs suggesting that Sevilla pay half of the €2.5m (approximately £2million) tax bill which arose as a result of the deal to bring Capel to White Hart Lane.

WoW!
Let me state my point again...
While Tottenham have Berbatov playing for them the teams mojo, presence and attitude will always being in direct alignment with his head and current attitude. He's the so called star player and whilst my comments might be obvious to many it is the single most determining factor on the teams performance by far and has been for two seasons. Now with Berbatov electing to play in about 40% of the games last year was it all that difficult to see why we ended up where we did in the league? No one wants berbatov pre- United interest to leave the lane and all I am saying is that his obvious unhappiness has truly affected the whole team, young or old players even mamangement. It would have been great if he'd just been honest some of the time and just said "boss, me eads gone. If you play me today I'm gonna bollock the pixie, rant at the Jolly brown giant, sing proddie songs all day at the paddy, talk sh*te to anyone who speaks french and send back passes down the goalie's throat all day long!" I could live with that but he just sulks and kills the mojo and saps any potential there might be because he's not playing Champions league. Earn it my friend, earn it first...I am a fan of berbatov the footballer but in all honesty, how much have we seen of that since man U came a calling? Arm around, chasing down defenders, don't make me laugh....

Spurs are ranked top in the country for effective cost management, calculated by the key performance indicator wages to turnover ratio, and they generated £27 million from television rights in 2006/07 - fifth highest in the Premier League. They come third in the league in terms of surplus cash when wages have been deducted from their revenue, and also third on the predicted five year operating profit table with £70.2 million, as well as having the fourth highest stadium utilisation with 98.4 per cent of White Hart Lane's 35,699 capacity being filled on average. Finally, they had £49 million in net assets as of the end of the 2006/07 season.

have moved towards clinching a £5m deal for the Manchester City central defender Richard Dunne, my take on dunne is A good experienced signing,He isn't slow. He's not as fast as King or Ferdinand, but he's a perfectly decent runner. I watched him against Man U when City beat them this past season and he, along with Richards, was monumental. They won City the match. He's a very good defender. Kaboul has potential. Dunne is the finished article.
He'd be a good 3rd choice center back and a player who could be great alongside either King or Woodgate, but also a player who Dawson could be comfortable alongside. Most importantly, another leader. Say what you will about Man City but he's been a great captain for them the past 2 years.

I was pondering the debates on here about how, should Berbatov leave, we'll find it hard to lure big names to the club. Some people were very pessimistic.

But we got Modric - which was a (pleasant) shock to all. I saw him interviewed on Sky this morning, and he explained that it was Levy's personal involvement in his recuitment that swayed him. Credit to Levy for supporting his coach.

Since then, we've had bundles of names tossed around, linking us (as usual) to big-name signings. Most of the rumours are garbage. Some, no doubt, have a basis in truth, but we ultimately fail to sign the particular player - maybe it's the player who pulls out, maybe it's we who decline the deal. It's probably a bit of both. Not every inititaive is successful, and we seldom hear of the ones that got away by a hair's breadth.

The current names being bandied about include Dos Santos, Capel and Dunne. Dos Santos and Capel would turn other clubs green with envy, if we get them. Some say that Dos Santos has already signed.

Point is, we still don't know if Berbatov will stay or go. We don't even know if the club knows. Or even if Berbatov himself knows. So it's a fair assumption that any potential new arrivals will be aware that the guy may slope off to another club. Yet still they sign (or so it appears - I don't want to count my chickens before they've hatched). They still, at least, show interest in signing.

So maybe the pessimism was misplaced. There's vigorous life at Spurs, with or without Berbatov. Ramos is max factor.

And talking of chickens not hatching, a report on Setanta claims Dos Santos is being courted by Chel*ea. Is it going to be one of those 'It was a nice thought while it lasted', Harry? Or is the agent just looking for a bigger wedge himself?

There's a mightily impressive stand-off between us and Palace going on at the moment. Smacks of a combination of Tottenhams blunderbusesque approach and Warnock/Jordan bitterness.

9:37 - Stories running parallel to your info on Dos Santos are saying that he's chosen us over the plastic population. Hope its true, i've only seen the lad play on TV once - he scored a hat-trick including one of the best chips i have ever seen. Needless to say my expectations of the lad are now beyond that of any reasonable hman being! :)

Dunne medical on Monday Harry? I haven#t heard that? You been holding out on us?

Any news on Dos Santos/Capel?

The Bostock story is pretty straighforward.

We have reached an agreement with THE PLAYER, Crystal Palace need to learn to read.

We are negotiating the compensation with them, or through tribunal (which will be the case)

They need to understand that he has agreed terms with us and signed his contract, and we are just waiting to buy his official registration.

Pikeys.

9.37 On the other hand, a number of Modric like signings might encourage Berbs to stay.

Re: Fifa vote for 6:5 quota

It ain't gonna happen, mate - so nowt to worry about. EU employment regs supercede anything FIFA might want to do - and, as it stands, such restrictions would be illegal. It's just typical of Blatter playing footie politics.
And talking of windy flat-track bullies, it's a big hello to Chubba Kemsley's mate, Simon Jordan. Park lane Nomad has this spot-on - the Bostock deal IS imminent. Even Jordan admits as much when he says, "They (THFC) don't have come to an agreement with us." But that bit seems to have got lost in his usual bluster about being "lied to". It is, of course, nothing but PR for the fans and a tear-stained love-letter to the (inevitable) tribunal - in the hope of squeezing a bit of extra dosh out of Spurs for the lickle orphan that Uncle Si personally weaned from the cradle. But, remember, it ain't about the money ...

Oh, and Harry, please avoid the "Dunne & Dusted" or "It's a Dunne Deal" headlines - when/if the Citeh boy signs.

I enjoyed the NOTW~esque cobblers of 'Bale In The Bag', but I would leave The 'D&D' to others... good call.
