Eto'o On the Premises

I'll be called everything under the sun for sharing this, but what the heck.

Eto'o has been spotted at White Hart Lane.
The tale is convenient if you wish due to the game this evening, but the nature of the source is unique and not to be immeadiately discounted.

There's no fleshing this out at present so I shall leave it with you and declare April 29th the first day of Open Season on HH. Oh yes, and don't forget, VOTE BORIS!

Absolute rubbish!

Anonymous said...

can't believe that £16m will be enough to get him, but he will most probably move on this summer even now that Koeman has been sacked. I remember seeing Guillem Bague on Sky Sports La Liga who was saying that he had spoken personally to Villa and, because of Ramos, Spurs was one of the clubs that he was interested in joining.

why would you continue to insist players go to whl? deals are done at chigwell - if you're 'itk' (which i don't believe) you'd be aware of that - at the very least.

Or if you believe the post on GG.net from someone working with the Barcelona team, Eto'o is in Manchester and has not visited The Lane/Spurs Lodge.

Spurs Oddie.

its the signing up part that puts me off.

it screams little boys club.

i much prefer info is stolen and posted on an open forum. saves me the hassle of looking it up myself.

ps. The internet is probably the worst place to keep a 'secret'. My advice to people would be to suggest you try storing them in a location not accessible to 6 billion people.

yeah, i also noticed harry always copy his ITK from Spursodyssey for then to claim he got his info personally. Bad net ethic if you ask me.

bet you wouldn't bet your bollox on it. But you are talking them. He's in manchester for tonight's game. Stop wasting time and energy.

Anonymous said...

"Bobby Bristlethwaite" here, now then Mr Harry, I personally know this is not true. Mr Eto'o is in Manchester with the rest of his team. His agent did meet Mr Levy last week but that came to nothing because of pay structures. I work in the back offices at WHL so don't peddle anything you don't know. However, I do know we are interested in a number of others such as ....

Vote Boris - are you mad!

theshelfer said...

Lord Harold,

have you already started on the Pimms?

It may sound outrageous, and probably is, but Levy has shown himself to be very ambitious in getting players to the club and has always backed the manager with signings.

If Ramos has said he wants Eto, then I would bet Lord Harold's large country estate that Levy will try and get him.

Anonymous said...

Wouldn't be surprised by Eto'o - berbatov swap deal.

Next stop Capel.

Anonymous said...

Where were the ITK's when the Modric deal was being negotiated........?

And I doubt Eto'o would be down here with a game tonight....
What possible reason would there be for him to turn up in person?
I can only think of one, to do a medical, and if he does a medical, he wont be playing tonight....
I think maybe its a case of mistaken identity, or someone just made it up.

It's Them and Us said...

My post was deleted, or on a major delay?

Anyway. The word from around Valencia (which is where I'm living at the moment) is that Villa is the more likely of the two (the other being Eto'o).

Would love Capel (from Sevilla) too. But for some reason I can see him going to the Arse as Hleb and Flamini depart. Aww. A sinking ship.

According to the worldcupblog site, a portuguese finance company known as Futebolfinance has drawn up a top 50 list of players wages. At No 32 lies one Mr S. Eto. At No 19 lies........ wait for it....Mr D. Bent!

Either the list is bollocks or we can actually afford Eto's wages.

Common sense suggests the former.

Nou Camp capacity = 98,800

WHL capacity = 36,300

Look at their squad. Look at ours. Look what they pay for players etc.

He's 27 years old. And must be on somewhere near 100k a week. Last I heard we pushed our ceiling to 52k so as to hold on to Berbs. Are we likely to double that for one player? Is he likely to halve his pay for a Uefa cup run?

Answers on a postcard......

Surely no one with half a mind could want that incompetent buffoon to be in charge? It'd be like employing Comolli to take charge of our transfer policy....Oh....

I very much doubt we could afford Eto'o, it'll go the way of Rivaldo and Christian Vieri beforehand.

Whatever you do, don't vote Boris! It will be the kiss of death to this fair city....

Harry,

It's Paul Smith here.

Whilst I can deal with your open abuse of the Spurs Odyssey web site (although what I ever did to upset you so much, I'm really not sure), and I can even handle your dishonourable poaching of material from around the web, I would ask you to remove the name you mentioned above.

You see, even with asterisks, I feel you are abusing the trust of that individual, who also e-mailed me privately, so there is a bit you don't know about him that was not posted to the list.

None of this by the way is intended to add any merit to the rumour, which of course I did not seek to promulgate, whilst you do.

So, I am asking you nicely - just remove any allusion to his name - please

Anonymous said...

Harry, if you tell us to vote Boris directly under a striking image of Derren Brown's hypnotic gaze, how can we possibly resist? Don't be telling us to drop our trousers in public next!

Anyone see the CL semi-? Eto'o looked indifferent to being subbed. Where have we seen indifference in a striker before?

Wish we had Tevez or his ilk in our team: indefatigable; will to win; stuff of the Roman legions. The labour of such men build empires.

That Messi character is something else. What a player. Even so, Barca out. Rijkaard out. Mourinho in? Heigh ho, the wheel turns.

And Kaboul out. He's burnt his bridge, that boy, and he cares not. Should we be concerned that - according to him - Ramos doesn't communicate? Probably not. It's more likely that a lack of engagement with Ramos' methods has opened up the gulf between them. And perhaps the small matter of Ramos rating him at the level of an oversized schoolboy. The reference to Jol as a father-figure was both touching and disturbing. One wonders what sort of culture prevailed at Spurs under BMJ. Whatever it was, it got to 5th twice. But it also got us in a fix this time round.

It's encouraging that Spurs are starting transfer business early. From top-to-toe the club seems smarter, sharper, slicker. I trust that the finishing behind-the-scenes is better than it currently is on the pitch. That way we should soon see some more decent playing-staff.

Will Eto'o be among them? I'm in the dark myself. But I do reckon that no club should place excessive faith in one player, as (to some degree) we have in Berbatov. It's no use relying on Charles Atlas to fight your battles when the rest of your army is made up of Lilliputians. What happens when the Big Man leaves? The city falls, of course.

Harry - I'm very worried that there are some regulars on here who don't support the mighty Mr J. Does that mean there are some Spurs supporters who are not of sound mind? ...and I didn't see too much special from Eto'o'oo'oo'oo tonight

Anonymous said...

Another good piece 9.37.

I also love Tevez indefatigable indeed and although (as you well know) I am desperate that we hang on to Berba, you are right, a one man team is always vulnerable team.

I also agree that tying up Modric this early is a good sign. After all, how good were any of those 5 minutes to midnight deals ? I think one produced Steed but another brought us Murphy. Then there was the Bent saga. Instead of sorting it early we dawdled, the Spammers got wind of it and hiked the price, not that our Darren looks a great deal at any price.

Anonymous said...

odm ffs how many times? bent never fucking plays! 10 mins here 20mins there give the bloke a break. even your beloved berba would struggle to produce in that scenario hang on he struggles to produce when playing every game for the last how many ? or is that him just not bothering? i know your gonna chirp about his last couple of goals but they were 2yard tap ins made for him by the TEAM that even my 5yr old daughter would of scored. Its one way loyalty from fellas like yourself to him when he clearly don't give a fuck! When he first came he was modest ,crediting his team mates for his goals etc, then a few nice red top storys about him and all of a sudden he's too big for spurs! if he goes get a good price, sell him abroad and invest it back into the team, if he stays it can't be because we've got a couple of heavy's holding him at spurs lodge kicking and screaming until the transfer deadline passes! he needs to actually want it ,shut his fucking agent/family up and get on with playing football. All this "he's sulky thats just the way he is" is bollocks he didn't start off like that at all.If he wants to go get the best price and move on otherwise it just totally undermines the team and will just ebb away at morale

Yes, 9.37 Anon on point again.

The Modric signing promises to be an excellent one IMO. Interesting how some muppets (probably Barcode/Gooner/Liverpool supporters) are writing articles on other sites pouring scorn on the signing. No doubt only because they didn't get him, and everyone else loves knocking the Spurs when our club does something positive.

I think it would be a bit unfair to judge Eto'o on one game (tonights) alone. Berbatov must have had about a dozen similar games just before Jol's demise?! Still not convinced we could be in the running to get him. I did sit up and take notice after Setanta Sport News reported Ramos mentioning him in the same breath as Modric this afternoon though.

Whatever the arguments for and against Berbatov or anyone else, I sincerely doubt that anything we say here will influence their careers in any significant way.

Berbatov still has widespread support at the Lane, as does Robinson. This does credit to the supposedly fickle fans, since both players' respective shortcomings are commonly acknowledged (although, in Berbatov's case, more reluctantly). If this support isn't sufficient to keep them at the club, then we have to assume that they are motivated by stronger factors well outside our control.

In fact, thinking of this situation that clubs find themselves in - where players under contract cast envious glances elsewhere - I'm reminded of the joke about the boy who returns home from school one day and complains to his father that his English teacher is working him too hard.

"She wants me to give an example of the difference between the words 'potentially' and 'realistically', says the boy.

"Well," says his father, "I suggest that first you go and ask your sister if she would sleep with Brad Pitt for a million pounds; and then you go and ask your mother if she would sleep with George Clooney for the same amount of money. Depending on how they answer, maybe you will gain a better understanding of the difference between the two words."

So the boy takes his father's advice and seeks out his sister and mother to ask his questions. Some time later he returns to his father.

"What did you find out?" asks his father.

"Well, dad," says the boy, "I found out that, potentially, we're sitting on a profit of two million pounds; and, realistically, we're living with sluts."

I'd noticed that, too, mysterious stranger, in the articles deriding Spurs' signing of Modric - even though any fan of any club in the Premier League would have welcomed him with open arms.

It's as if the detractors prefer to keep Spurs in their mid-table table place (which they do, of course). But why shouldn't we - or anyone else - have aspirations? They're healthy.

What I find particularly thought-provoking is that, had Modric indicated an interest in signing for the 'big four', no doubt he would have at least got a positive response.

But, in choosing Spurs, he seems to be saying that he doesn't want to hop onto a comfortable vehicle that's already kitted out to transport him to success and glory. He seems to be saying that he wants to work for his success, and be part of a new project entirely.

modric is a good all round midfielder that can play all across the midfield if and when needs be. but his best postion is running the show from the center. his price tag isnt that much to say you might have to bring in two or three other players to play in the positions he can play as cover . so we have a good player at the right price that can cover at least three different postions. not to sure about the right side of midfield.

Anonymous said...

so in other words we can get rid of a couple of our rubbish players, sell them because they can only play in one midfield postion, save there wages, and have a good player like modric, hmmm sounds good

Paul Smith,

Out of unprecedented goodwill I've removed the sources name. It was only the yapping of your pups that mademe run it as you hadn't. So I stole zip from you, again.

You need a reminder so you can have one.

You came on here, chest puffed out like some two bob council official, or do you forget? I verbally knocked you into the car park for an easy six.

You were sore after you ran a report of a reserve game in which you thought it was good form to slate someone starting out on the same media scale that the likes of Rooney, Berba & Co get. I told you it was harsh and to try backing off the youngsters.

Your defense largely consisted of 'don't you know who I am' and a load of old patronising tripe
I can give you the URL to... inc how dare I... use the name HH.

bty hits the nail on the head of course, Spurs Odious is largely a lacky crammed well of oversincere unopinionated monkeys who's posts largely consist of 'I agree Paul' and skint brain surgeons threatening to a) Buy a purs Odious T hirt on pay day honest... or b) See if the IT boys at work can send H a virus. Hello Marc. Pretty stupid threats from a man with his business address all over the net, sunbeam.

Either way, you've had it explained to you. The internet isn't a great place for storing secrets. But more damningly you've failed to grasp a more fundemental point, which is, not all your information is unique to you. You may need a chair here, but the man who tells your man doesn't then automatically take a cyanide pill.

And as the chap who shot Reilly Ace Of Spies in the last episodes rightly pointed out, it is a reality of life that only dead men ... tell no tales.

Now p*ss off, I'm trying to have some lunch.

Of course now Harry, I'm wondering who you post as on the spurs-list. I've got an idea on that, but won't waste too much time thinking about it

So Paul Smith is your real name then? And Harry Hotspur isn't Harry's real name? Oh my God. I need a Gin and Tonic after hearing that... And I don't even drink Gin and Tonic!

Mr Smith, you must be so proud of your common name. Of course, it's so damned common and there's that many of you that finding you, Paul Smith, would be akin to trying to find a needle in a haystack. However, if your surname was Modric, or Eto'o, I expect you could be found in seconds if someone really wanted to find you.

There is nothing wrong with "hiding" behind a pseudonym. In a public place some people may prefer to protect their identity. That is their right, just as it is Harry's to do likewise. I have already pointed out to you that with your name you don't have to because of the sheer numbers.

Of course, we are here because we respect HH. We like his blog. I daresay many of us don't go to your site because we don't like it. I don't care if you have the same source, if the source could be ID'd or not from what was previously posted. He evidently ran his mouth off to all who would listen!

I am a little puzzled as to how people accuse HH of nicking it from you, and then later on I read your post where you state - "I never claimed to be the original source, and as I still feel a great deal of scepticism about the veracity of the info, I decided not to go public as such"

WTF? Do you provide your readers with an ITK email or run a SpursOdyssey premium rate "Striker at the Lane?" phone line?

In true internet fashion it is quite possible someone who is on Spurs Odyssey's jock, perhaps even yourself under the guise of an anonymous poster (which would be ironic!), or a close personal friend of yours jumped on here to promote your site, by accusing HH of stealing your info.

I care little for the reasons behind it. But seriously, Paul Smith, just get off your high horse. I think the vast majority here care little for your "honourable" bullsh1t, your dig at HH's "second hand pseudonym", or your site - I'm sure if nothing else you could have alienated a few more people from it. Well done, pat on the back for you...! Now ta-ta.

On the Eto'o prospects - having watched all of his matches this season, I do not want to see us waste any money on him.

He is a good player, very similar to Defoe in many respects, but with a better first touch and slightly better in the air. However, he is nowhere near as physical and would really struggle in the EPL.

There is no player available that is anywhere close to the quality of Berbatov - we have to focus every ounce of effort on keeping him. If we acquire one more playmaking CM (in addition to Modric), someone like Arteta, Kanoute, Elano or Granero (my 1st choice), we would show him that we are keen on fixing the service problems and he could easily score 30-35 goals next season.
