Tinkers Told To Move On...To The Championship

Obviously I'm taking full credit for Gilberto's selection, his goal, the victory and indeed anything good that happened in the entire world since I nailed my colours to his mast.

Berbatov was either poorly marked or he's an exquisite assassin. Probably a bit of both. I thought the crucial factor was the supply. Huddlestone's assists were top draw. Both passes were expertly struck and all ol' Mitka had to do was rise like the demonic spirit he is and whistle them into the wire. What a love.

Gilberto and Bent's goals were opportunist enough but not lesser fare for it. Bent will need more than this to feel as punchy as he did the first few times he pulled on the Lilywhite shirt, but his recovery has to start somewhere.

West Ham are in genuine trouble. Buffered by points they aren't yet suffering Newcastle's ignominy of sliding south after every game, but twelve goals conceeded in three games is a straightforward crisis.

4-0 in their cup final. They even bought a flag.

I havent laughed so much for at least two weeks.

I love West Ham. I really do. I should hate them, but i cant.

I'm assuming the Spurs that turned up for the CC final is back then?

Great Deliveries today, which we lacked on Thursday...
Makes me a little more hopeful for
Wednesday's return.
Boa Morte was strangely amusing.

The flag was funny. When was the last time they had to travel 'over sea'??
Boa Morte was also good for a laugh.
What a bunch of 5th rate pikeys.

Great result but feeling a bit glass half-full. Had we beaten Brum we (with our game in hand) could have risen above this dross. The consequent ascent up the table would have opened up a solid buffer-zone between us and the b*llshit zone.

Credit to Gilberto for redeeming himself on two counts:

1) the goal;
2) scoring it playing in left midfield.

Shows what an adaptable dude he is. Aksherly, adaptability seems a requirement of Ramos. Players play out of position as per demands. Total footballers. What next - Huddlestone as a pacy winger and Robinson as a striker?

Nice atmosphere in Bell and Hare this afternoon. Met a guy there who left before the match ended because he was, as he put it, 'bored'. Maybe he felt there was no sport in kicking a wounded animal. Mind you, when the animal is Spam why not just keep on kicking? Ah well.

Anyway, he's off to Holland in the next few days, and it isn't for the ski-ing. Salt of the earth lilywhite. Respect to him if he's a visitor here.

Any thoughts, anyone, on Spurs integrity and performance minus Jenas? No witch-hunt or anything, just curious of the consensus.

funny enuf day all right. I like that comment by the bloke who knows he should return the spam's hatred, but just can't. They're so cuddly and cute, aren't they?

meanwhile great goals from Berbs, but where was he on Thursday??

I was in the Bell and Hare before and after the game.
Fun when it kicked off outside before the game and the coppers kept us inside, wouldnt let us out.
Being the resourceful yids that we are, we went cross country and jumped a few walls round the back to get into the game on time.

Huddlestone was immense today.

Would have been 6-0 ;-)

Agree with Anon 9:23pm. Glass does seem half-full (cant be half empty after beating West Ham 4-0). But there is still half a glass missing.

Great with the carling cup, and great with the 4-0 but we had two awful performances in between. We need to put a run of results together like we did under Jol last year. Lets get at least 25 points from the remaining games and then we will have made our league position a bit more respectable.

We have Europe, but I think this is the time for each player to prove they should be playing for us next season.
Obviously Berbatov, Keane, King, Woodgate, Hutton, Bale will stay - but there is still a lot of driftwood in my opinion which need to prove their worth. I appreciate we have been playing extremely well against the top 4 with the current team we have, but c'mon how many players in the team would you not swap for anyone?!?!?!

Robinson ---> still have a soft spot, Ramos doesnt, see ya!
Hutton ---> never
Woodgate ---> never
King ---> never
Dawson ---> possible, would like someone that doesnt need babysitting.
Chimbonda ---> get him out
Gilberto ---> will get back to you when he completes a pass!
Lennon ---> still only a squad player in my opinion, would like to have a crosser in right midfield next season
Huddlestone ---> squad player, would love a world class midfielder to replace him next season
Zokora ---> as mentioned a poor mans makelele, replace!
Malbranque ---> so much spirit but essentially a squad player (replaced by Bale next season)
Bale ---> will be one of the players of the premiership next season
Jenas ---> getting better, still a squad player within the Spurs team I want to see next season
Keane ---> stay for life, please!
Berbatov ---> stay for another season, please!
Bent ---> f*£$@!k off

HH, dont agree with Gilberto. I think he is bollocks. He misplaced quite a few passes during counter attacks that put a lot of pressure on our defence. If he hadnt got that goal I am sure people would be talking about those passes. Gilberto has distracted you all with his fortunate goal, and yes it was fortunate. He didnt know what hit him when Lennon the wizard stepped over it. It popped up and he just tried to hit it! C'est tous.

Anyway, we have won a game we should have won so good. Lets push on and prove we are a team meant for the higher echelons of the premiership.

PS If we had Jenas available we wouldnt have had to bring on Gilberto and it would have been 6-0!

Apologies.

how do you know jenas was not playing? how could you tell? up until the 70th min i thought he was having quite a good game, largely based on the absence of missplaced passes.

think there is a storm brewing, batton down the hatches, its hurricane dannyboy

coAhhhh, west ham - what a bunch of gobshite pikeys. That made my weekend thrashing them, and Bents goal must have really hurt after his decision to turn them down :)

Absolute jokers! i hope they werent allowed to take too many liberties outside the away end?

Also had the chance to have a brief chat with Paul Hawksbee in Wetherspoons before the game :)

A few player ratings as im in a good mood :)

Robbo - 6 - Nothing to do after a shaky first 2 mins.

Chimbonda - 6 - Not tested at all, gone from the all-out-attack loose cannon to only passes backwards in an uninterested fashion loose cannon.

Woodgate - 8 - Rolls Royce Defending, had his work cut out with Ashton putting in a good display, nulified his goal threat completely.

Dawson - 6 - Never Really tested with only one up for the spam but didnt put a foot wrong.

Hutton - 8 - Classy, Tough, What a cross for number 4!!! he cant be scottish can he?!? :)

Lennon - 6 - Fits and starts, needs some end product or dont think he'll make the grade? Wheres that pace gone?

Steeeeeeed - 7 - Typical Steed, dogged performance laced with nice skill but blew himself out after 60. Loves playing for Tottenham.

Huddlestone - 8 - 2 Lovely set pieces followed by 20 pants ones but still bossed the middle with Zokora effortlessly.

Zokora - 7 - Always seems to play well against West Ham (they must be crap!) Faded a little but did the business today.

Berba - 9 - Why did we not get him more involved in the second half they didnt know what to do with him!!! Inspired performance capped with 2 lovely headers.

Keane - 6 - A-flick-a-minute non descript poo.

Tainio - 7 - Found lots of space, used the ball simply and well. A couple of decent challenges.

Gilberto - somewhere between a 4 and an 8 - This dude is interesting, lovely goal but hasnt realised we play in white yet.

Bent -7- What a goal! Actually looked hungry & sharp when he came on, i hardly recognised him! Excellent work rate and strength into the bargain. Turned a corner?

Man of the Match - Boa Morte

Maldives Yid.... good post...what's the weather like over there!!

agree with all your comments on the players apart from Steed and Gilberto..

Steed has excellent ball control as well as being able to use both feet equally well and equally as quick i feel..and he manages to pop up with a few goals too. would love to see him i ncentral midfield roll instead of the "poor man's Makelele" as you brilliantly put it..

i also feel you're being too harsh on Gilberto...we need time to assess what he can bring to a football team...so far he's just about broke even..

good to see Bent scoring yesterday...might add a few notes on to the transfer fee...

Too early to make any sort of accurate prediction about the boy Berto but my concern, after seeing his first couple of starts, is that like many of our squad, despite having one or two very good elements to his game, he'll prove not to have enough all-round ability, leading again to a squad member who is as much of a weakness as a strength, and as inconsistant as he is talented.

With luck, I'm talking absolute rubbish and he turns out to be another Hutton or Woodgate.

Nice goal though; looks like the new defoe.

Thanks Bimi-D

Weather was pretty crap for a while out here, but now beautiful clear skies and tiffany-blue water.

I love Steedy, his work rate is phenomenal, but I am hoping we will be bringing in some world-class midfielders for next season (as that is where we are weakest) and I would like to think there shouldnt be a place for him. However, I want him to stay as he will be an awesome squad player. If anyone coming off the bench can bring as much heart and spirit as he has, we will be laughing next season!

Gilberto...hmmmm. Jury is definitely still out. As grazza said - somewhere between a 4 and an 8. He got a goal, thanks mate. But apart from that, everything else was pretty awful. Misplaced passes, out of position.....

Lets just keep this momentum going for PSV!!!!

Get yer PSV Pre-Match Prettle on the go, 3-1, job done. Hudd, Keane and King.

The omens will be good for us if Silver Hotspur wins the 1.50 race at Southwell :-) Can't believe I mentioned a horse race at Southwell...

Good point though. Where's the prattle...? Where's Harry?

I envisage a good bright start, with one or two goals in the first half to Spurs. After 60 mins I expect we'll sh%t our collective selves for the remainder of the game as we try to batton down the hatches, probably conceding too... 2-1 Spurs survive under a massive onslaught!!! Come on Ramos!!!
