Anderlecht Away Highlights & Player Ratings

Here's both goals then...

Robinson 6
Home fans launched a Metal Bar near Robbo.
HH understands the Spurs goalie doesn't even like Metallica. Idiots.

Cimbonda 4
I've got issues with his 'positional play'

Lee 3
Crisis of confidence. It seems all his progress has evaporated.

Dawson 3.5
Hopeless on their goal.

Stalteri 3.4
I don't hate him at all, but surley another reminder where we need to shop.

Zokora 4.1
Actually looked good at Centre Half.
Home fans threw a lighter at him.
HH understands Didier doesn't even smoke. Idiots.

Huddlestone 4.2
Again, some good stuff but nowhere near enough.

Malbranque 5.9
Started off well.

Lennon 5.8
Showed some sparks.

Jenas 5.7
Naff. Failed to boss it.

Keane 5.8
Expected more from him.

Berbatov 6.9
Clearly motivated. The penalty? Clearly minty.

Bent 5.7
Always 'not quite there'.

Defoe 5.1
Flattered by our very vocal support.

I agree with all the player ratings, although I would have given Bent a much lower score.

The team is desperate for a leader!!!

Agree with your ratings except, apart from the mistake for the goal, Dawson got away everything that came in the box

Anonymous said...

what a sweet penalty, berba should have taken the westham one

Anonymous said...

I'd actually give Chimbonda 0.5 - awful positioning, kept giving the ball away.
I'd give Dawson a bit more as well - the majority of his clearances actually didn't go to the opposition for once!

I don't even look forward to our games anymore.

There was so much to be depressed about.

Berba was our only bright spark.

SHITE! SHITE! SHITE!!

Why do Spurs always look like a poor team away from home?? Why do they constantly look as if they expect to lose?? That team last night played like they were looking for a draw… until Berb came on and gave us a 30-minute master-class…in those 30 minutes he did more than Robbie, Bent and Defoe put together..and indeed I could add a few more to that list…

Here’s my ratings..

ROBBO: (7)
Grand, did nothing wrong and made a fantastic save in the second half – not only saving the ball but directing it away from danger.

CHIMSY: (2)
I’m actually one of his fans and think he’s a great player…. but my god…..

DAWS: (5.5)
Had a fine game ‘till the goal… and I’m not even sure he takes full blame because to me it seemed as though he got a (stupid) shout from Jenas.. still he should have dealt with it just to be safe..

ZOKORA: (5)
I dunno…wasn’t terrible I suppose

YP LEE: (3)
Getting carried off injured was his best contribution..

LENNON: (6.5)
Improving each week…did ok…still no crosses though..

jenas: (3)
So bad I refuse to spell his name with capital letters…(that’ll show him!!) I suppose did well to win the peno…but that’s it..

THUDD: (4.5)
Slow… very few of the beautiful passes we saw against Aalborg and Brum.. long way to go..

STEED: (6.5)
Faded a bit in second half but really works hard, has excellent touch, two feet and has an idea of a one-two unlike a lot of the rest of them..

ROBBIE: (4)
Not in the game..his goals may be keeping him in the side and long may it continue but I still fear that he’ll be found out.. see you at the NLD
BENT: (2)
What’s the point…he’s just shite…

BERB: (10.5)
Yes that’s right I’ve given him an extra .5 of a mark for being great…ok admittedly if Berb scratched his arse I’d call it a masterpiece but still….as soon as he came on Spurs finally looked threatening….cool as you like penalty….even when he lost possession one time down the right he raced back in an attempt to win the ball back and did too… and to think Bent cost nearly 5 million more than him.. I could go on….

DEFOE: (5)
Still a selfish pr*ck and I still won’t like him until he signs a contract but he got a few shots away…nothing special..

STALTERI: (1)
I’m not even going to bother…

CHARLTON ATHLETIC: (10)
For managing to get £16.5 bloody million for “that lad”

NEWCASTLE UTD: (10)
For managing to get £5 bloody million for “that other lad”

And finally…

ANYONE WHO TRIES TO CONVINCE ANYONE THAT EITHER OF THEM “LADS” ARE ANY GOOD: (-100)

That is all..

you can divide our players into 5 categories:

The shockers: huddlestone, jenas, zokora, kaboul, bent
The axis of slump: lennon, dawson, chimbonda, robinson, defoe
The heroes: berbatov, keane, bale, steed
The underutilized: tainio, taarabt, cerny
The irrelevants: rocha, stalteri, k-p b, lee

whatever, at least we got the point. but it seems like every match we are underwhelmed by the efforts of our players and we go in expecting a big performance from the same guys the next match. I hope to see at least one established (that means above the age of 23) centre midfielder along with a strong centre half come in January. if any one of the "shockers" above have any value at all, i say dump them immediately, except for kaboul, he seems to have a future.

that's my input.

coys as always.

If it wasn't for his horrendous mistake to give away the goal i would have given dawson an 8 for last night. However, he needs to learmn to put in a 95 minute performance! Chimbo lacked positional play agreed - he also lacked passion and commitment! Robbo had a decent game and Malbranque is steadily earning respect for consistently putting in a higher level of effort. Keano had a stinker! Says it all really...

Stuart said...

Harry i have to disagree with you, Robbo was very good and deserved a better rating, Dawson was quality bar his one mistake which i felt Chimbo was also to blame for, he plays much better when away from Kaboul, Malbranque was our star man, as always battling away, Berby did look good - agree with that. Bent was absolutely shocking, touch was dreadful, no effort and needs to realise that perhaps his game doesnt suit Spurs so he needs to start dropping back more and being more effective. Keane had a 'one off' bad game that can be excused, Lee was shocking and hope that injury keeps him out for a while. Hudd and Jenas were both well below par too. Chimbo didnt look great either. Did a job though, and must improve now, otherwise we wont progress much further in UEFA and will struggle in the league too. Not normally negative and like your site HH, happy we have Ramos and Berby worked hard when he come on so he needs to continue with that.

NEWCASTLE UTD: (10)
For managing to get £5 bloody million for “that other lad”

Didn't they get close on £9m for him, he's still obviously servicing Levy to get picked every game and never subbed.

Anonymous said...

Robbo was good, chimbonda was useless and has been all season and most of last...every time he gets the ball he passes it straight back and makes no runs at all (except for one at the beginning of the 2nd half which nearly led to a goal), Dawson was generally good actually finding his own players with headed clearances for a change), Jenas, contrary to the usual cra* written about him, worked his socks off unlike the statue that is Huddlestone..if we are going to play him he may as well stand on the goal-line and block a bit of space..pass and move is all done in slow motion for him, Keane was absolute sh*te as were Bent and DeFoe.
One thing that has become clear since Ramos took charge is that the technical abilities of our players is woeful and their thinking ability even worse. Ramos is quoted as saying something like "We have to improve...we didn't look dangerous"...never a truer word.

It's Them and Us said...

I'm not going to react in knee-jerk fashion which it seems to the norm to do (are the fans becoming like the board?! :O). At the end of the day, considering how badly we've started this season, to qualify is good enough for me. It's so poorly formatted anyway so we'd be facing a good side soon enough.

I'll steal the order that you rated them in, and offer my own take.

Robinson 7
Spilled one shot but apart from that was by far the most solid part of our defence and had a couple of key saves. Imagine how awful it'd be if HE was still in a run of poor form.

Chimbonda 3
I wanted him dropped for this game. Apart from a couple of good runs (resulting in poor crosses -- I still think he was trying to pull the ball back for Bent as opposed to Robbie) he might as well of been wearing an Anderlecht shirt. He can't mark to save his life. Remember that ball going to the back post and their lad was in acres? Unreal.

Lee 3
I don't know what's up with him. Maybe being surrounded by nervy players is unsettling but I hope he returns to early season form and doesn't regress too far. Took a nasty kick to the head. I fear the possible backline we'll have available against City if he misses out.

Dawson 5
Absolutely shocking decision-making for their goal but overall quite comfortable. A couple of misplaced balls and the odd questionable/weak tackle, but looked unsure with Zokora beside him.

Stalteri -
I didn't give him a rating because he had no time to contribute to the game. Not that he would of, but meh, didn't have anything to do.

Zokora 4
I don't know about him looking good. He is far too small to be a centre-back and if anything he should be dropped the deepest of the two as he's got the pace to chase flick-ons. Dawson is immense in the air but quite slow. Nice saving challenge but apart from that he was no better than ordinary. Kaboul returns for City!

Huddlestone 4
2007 Award for Most Frustrating Player goes to big Tom. Awesome in the last two games, taking it by the scruff of the neck and playing commanding balls. He was pretty anonymous -- apart from being huge. Nothing special and I'd expect Zokora to be moved into midfield again.

Malbranque 7
I thought he was brilliant last night and my MOTM. He fought for everything and took players on successfully. A couple of wayward passes but generally a fucking machine. I'd love to see him given a chance in the middle of the park but is by far our best option at present for left-mid.

Lennon 5
I don't know if it's me expecting too much, or that nothing has changed. He comes inside then flicks it back onto his right foot and produces a ball that at best hits a defender and we get a corner (that too, is wasted). He needs a kick in the arse.

Jenas 6
Generally good. Nothing too flash, nothing glaringly bad. Made up for the unimaginative Hudd and won us the penalty with the best move of the match.

Keane 4
Fairly anonymous again but didn't pop up with the goals this time. I'm surprised he started with Bent and Keane, as Berbatov and Defoe or Bent and Defoe would of made a lot more sense.

Berbatov 6
It's only a six because he spent most of his time in the centre-circle. Nicely taken penalty though. I wonder how many were thinking, "If he can do that why didn't he take the penalty against West Ham?!" ;)

Bent 4
Didn't work well with Keane, which again brings me to the point that if Bent was a certain starter than Defoe should of partnered him as the two have shown chemistry. He worked fairly hard but ultimately was a let-down.

Defoe 3
Do something.

was it £9 million!! jaysus i think i'll bumb Newcastle's rating up to 15 for that coup..

Dr. Einstein don't try and tell me that Jenas worked his socks off...

I'm all for giving players a chance but i'm at the end of my tether with this lad..

the only midfielder that continuosly works his socks off for the team is Steed..

Jenas prances around like he's the best midfielder ever to play the game..
case of point in the first half when he tried to beat one or 2 players..over-ran the ball then lunged in and gave away a stupid free AND THEN had the gall to shake his head as if he'd done nothing wrong..

and what really gets me is uninformed commentators giving out about Berb all season and yet chancers like Jenas get off scot-free just beacuse his standards are lower..

we should sell him in january coz i garantee there are managers out there who think he's good and who will pay money for him..we could even turn a profit..

appologies for the rant Harry but in the immortal words of Peter Griffen, this guy really "grinds my gears"

this is not a knee jerk reaction. Ramos has got the results somewhat going our way, but we're still putting in shite performances match after match. we cannot seem to do it for 90 minutes, ever!

i know people are on a downer at the minute but the truth is we dont know just how low everybodys confidence was before Ramos. We have had some major injury issues like no other team this season, we have been beaten by wondergoals (that a team with confidence would not of conceeded - granted) BUT WE ARE PLAYING FANTASTIC FOOTBALL GOING FORWARDS - WE ARE TOTTENHAM FOR FUCKS SAKE - IS THAT OT THE REASON WHY WE LOVE EM?

WE ARE RIPPING TEAMS TO BITS WEEK IN WEEK OUT - THINGS WILL GET BETTER SO STOP FUCKING MOANING

"WE ARE RIPPING TEAMS TO BITS WEEK IN WEEK OUT"

Dunno bout that.. there was certainly no ripping last night...but yes i am confident that things will get better and i for one am hugely confident about next season but what about now??

well i think the fact that Ramos is gradually making his mark on the side is more encouraging than if he was to make an immediate impact..long term is alway better than the quick fix.. Take Brum for example...McLeish got off to a great, if undeserved, start against us (now there was some ripping in that game) but can anyone really see Brum sustaining that type of form?? not me..they won't score another goal like that for a long time

my point anyway is that Ramos will eventually turn things around (not that he's done bad since arriving)...

i'm really excited about next year...

Anonymous said...

Ramos has stablised performances to a degree but the woefulness of our defence and midfield is clear for all to see and why the Board and Jol should hang their heads in shame.

Ramos will hopefully be given the opportunity to start building his own squad of players in January 2008. I doubt whether we will get much more than one CH and Midfield player but if we can get those and get Ledley back and keep him fit alongwith Bale then we may have enough to build on for the rest of the season before a big summer shake up and sort out. Next season we should begin to see a Ramos side in action and I am excited by that prospect.

Ramos is having to deal with the abyss left by Jol at present and I suspect even he and his team are suprised at how bad things were left...

EL said...

I just keep seeing that goal over and over again in my head. What the fcuk?
It's as bad as anything the defence has done this season. The goons and pikeys must be pissing their pants.

Ramos is now making 'we must avoid relegation' statements. It's not Christmas yet for crying out loud!

My mate reckons we're gonna win a cup this season. I think he's suffering from post backward step disorder. I'm almost at the point where I expect something to go badly wrong should Ramos take us to the brink of something great.

I'm finding matchdays fairly depressing at the moment. I took my dad to the alborg game. His first for about 10 years and at half time at 2 nil down, he just looked at me with this look that said; nothing's changed then, and I had no idea what to say. I've had so many 'why are we so sh*t' conversations over the years I couldn't bring myself to start another.

Sorry, been doing loads of overtime this week, i'm tired and whinging like a stroppy brat.

Here's to a great fight in Las Vegas.

C'mon the Hatton.

FACT!!!! Ramos has to get spurs 4th in two consecutive years to be considered better than me (JOL)... But now he is talking relegation battle....

El - enough said, you just said it all mate.

Everyone else's comments on individual performances or lack of are accurate too, and sadly the same comments could have been applied to each individual on at least 10 previous games this season if not more, we have become so predictable as a team.

If there was something obvious about this game, it was how obvious all our faults have become, same old...same old, again and again, we made David look like Goliath...AGAIN!

If I had to scratch around for positives;

1)We didn't lose.

2)We're through to the next round.

3)Juande Ramos who is a proven winner and great tactician is our new manager. Give 2 or 3 key new players of his choice and he'll turn it around given time.

4)We finished 5th in the last 2 seasons - The league table doesn't lie which means, while we are absolutely a shower of shite at the moment, decent teams don't go that bad overnight.

5)Berba is world class, given the right service is worth his weight in gold. I agree with Harry that berba has a right to look miserable when the team are losing and he's forced to drop into midfield to show our midfielders how to do simple things such as pass the ball forward to find a team mate over the half way line! For fuck sakes our midfielders have got more reverse gears than a world war 2 Italian tank...:0)

6) Robbo saved our bacon which if he didn't make that off the line save could have made things even worse plunging him further into a confidence crisis along with Kaboul, which with our current lack of defensive cover options would have left our defence looking like a "Thai lady boy with no knickers on" - embarrassing, exposed, nowhere to hide and prone to a good kick in the bollocks every time the pansy sets foot on a premiership park against 11 men.

Sorry about that weird last analogy - Spurs depressive form calls for Prozac which does funny things to your mind...;0)

Vinny - the old gags are the best ones !!!

As for your comments, agree with most of them I'm afraid to say. By the way, if we hadn't conceded last minute goals and beat Citeh tomorrow, we would be 10 points better off and 10th in the league. Food for thought.

I know dannyboy, the classic old ones are the best.

Well in the very same way that Sacha Baron Cohen can laugh at the Jews being one himself, being of Italian ancestory myself (i.e. my parents are Italian) I can do the same. So I'm now waiting for my chance to bring in the one about the Italian book of war heros, watch this space...;0).

Yeah the one about the Italian tanks with the reverse gears just came right to mind when I was thinking of a way to summarise the way our main midfield trio of Jenas, Zokora and Hudd have been playing...christ Hudd even looks like a tank, but unfortunately his movement is just as "swift".

Fair point about we would be sitting in 10th and certainly think we deserve a few more points than we do have anyway, our luck has been shitty. I didn't mean for my post to sound that negative, as I really do believe we need only 2 or 3 top class signings at most in the "ready now" format to be that top side we were threatening to be the last couple of seasons. Of the 4 main players we bought in the pre-season window, only Bale added instant imrovement to the first 11, and even he's been injured most of the time.

What's been more frustrating is all of a sudden, even half decent players like Chimbo and Daws are rapidly joining our growing band of "average at best" type players!...surely they can do better than they are at present, infact we know cos we've bloody seen them do better!

Yeah we will beat Citeh tomorrow and my Spurs love being blind thinks we are going to go on a 30 game unbeaten run from now on, winning the Uefa, FA and Carling Cups as well as achieveing a champions league spot...Bob Hope and no springs to mind, but would be nice wouldn't it?

2-1 to us tomorrow then?, with a last minute goal in our favour this time...COYS!!!

P.S. The only reason we started up the Mafia is to prove we could hold a gun properly...;0).

Terrible error from Dawson. He looks a bit like Nethercott with decisions like that. Berbatov penalty was text book. Why doesn't he take the penalties? and free kicks? He is a great executioner. Not very impressed so far but optimistic.
