Tottenham Hotspur vs Anorthosis: Prematch Prattle

Harry's honoured to welcome Cyprus Yid, Vice Chairman of the officially acknowledged Cyprus Spurs Supporter's Club on the island of Cyprus.

Here's some first hand comment on tonight's opposition then, from a man in the know.

"I've been here for 3 years now and in that time, Anorthosis FC has become Champion of Cyprus, finished 3rd the following 2 years. Last season they won the Cup. In the 'Charity Shield' game at the start of the season, they beat the Champions, Apoel.

As you may have read elsewhere, they are 2 games into their season of domestic games, the first was away to Paralimni, where Chris Hughton watched them beat a very difficult at their home ground team, 2-1. Last Tuesday, when I had a meeting scheduled with the President of Anorthosis FC, he couldn't attend because of having to deal with the police for the Saturday game with Apoel at the Antonis Papadopoulos ground which seats 9,600. (Although Anorthosis FC are located in Larnaca, they became refugees after the 1974 invasion).

The stand that is allocated for the away supporters has a bottom tier in front of goal that holds 500. Above it, are Anorthosis fans that usually throw anything and everything at the away supporters below.

If we get a result tonight of 3-0 or better, we may look forward to taking the upper tier which holds a further 1,000. (Now you know why I had a meeting with the No.2 man). I saw Ketsbaia, wondering in looking like he just stepped off the beach. He looked intimidated by my presence, Mind you, I did stick my lapel in his nose! That's where I wear my 'Spurs Members' badge!

Ketsbaia played until last season as player/coach. He did little running around on the pitch, but had a good, (outside the penalty area), kick on him. He once claimed his foot had steering that guided his kick. Press room interviews can be interesting. He is liable to rant if he is unhappy either with the referees or with the opposition.

Star striker, Ougar Sosin. Polish. Top scorer in the league the season before last, for Apollonas FC. He went for a trial to Middlesboro last year, but they felt he wasn't good enough.
Marian Pahars, you know. He is considered a class act here in Cyprus. Has had injuries that have kept him out of football.

Frousos, is another worthy of mention. Plays with his heart as an attacking midfielder.
Nicholaou, defender and captain, is a good organiser of the back and influential.

Beqaj (Pronounced Beck-eye) is the goalkeeper, and although he is training, there is a delay for his paperwork to go through. Whether he plays or not is not yet certain.

All in all, a tough group of players. They need our team to play well against them, and no-doubt, they will park the bus in front of goal for the 1st leg, expecting to go home and have a partisan crowd behind them help push them to victory. It could happen!"

Cheers for taking the time to share, Cyprus Yid!

6-1! that's more like it! Shame about conceding but i'm guessing the players decided to save their strength for a bit by that time.

Lovely to see Defoe get 2 goals! Lots more of that please.

One question though.. where is Boateng? Jol didn't mention him as unavailable in the pre-match team news.
