A Beautiful Way To Kill 5 Minutes & 57 Seconds...

Debate is a broader form of argument than logical argument, since it includes persuasion which appeals to the emotional responses of an audience, and rules enabling people to discuss and decide on differences, within a framework defining how they will interact. Martin Jol now faces....

Sod it. I'm bored. Let's put a vid on.

Here's a particularly nice one courtesy of the mega talent that is... mattsimpsk.

Enjoy...

Love it.

Thanks for posting it, Harry.

That goal by Greaves always gets me: the slow, casual, passing build-up; the way Greaves delicately receives the ball - like a skater turning on ice. There's a moment when you think he may lose his balance. But he doesn't: he turns, accelerates and, like a grey ghost, skips nonchalantly around the opposition, his feet seemingly with an intelligence all their own. Finally, the dance around the 'keeper, the tap in, and the almost disdainful turn away from goal, as if to say, 'What's all the fuss?'

If I were a coach, I could do a lot worse than sit my squad in front of motivational footage such as that. But, in truth, it probably has far more resonance to the fans than a Bulgarian striker.

I grew up hearing the names of Blanchflower, MacKay, White, Gilzean, Jones, England, Jennings, Peters. Later on, in the UEFA Cup Final, I watched Graham Roberts burst through the Anderlecht defence like a Sherman tank to equalise, and Tony Parks emerge a hero after penalties. I only went to that match at the last minute. Ran all the way, and got there just in time.

I missed the Gascoigne years. Other stuff was happening.

Some football memories truly are wonderful. But now we want new memories, new moments; current memories, future memories. The past has to nourish us, strengthen us, inspire us.

I've read cogent arguments for and against Jol remaining in charge. Personally, I think Spurs will need to replace him. When? After recent events, no time will be a good time. Nothing happens in a vaccuum. Everything happens in context. Decisions have consequences, some foreseeable, some not. It will not all be good.

But I'd be more than delighted to see him turn our season around, demonstrate a rapid learning-curve and take us to the equivalent of footballing orbit. More than.

Everyone here wants the same thing - success for Spurs - and it's healthy to debate how it can be achieved. The mud-slinging is counter-productive and divides us.

I and my brother against my cousin; but I and my cousin against the stranger.

Seriously, it's all good here - even the bad - because all views can coalesce into a bigger, better picture, a greater understanding.

Thanks again, Harry, for posting the video.

Just don't give us 'Eye of the Tiger'.

COYS!

Anybody ever seen the old video (and I mean VHS video here by the way!) of Spurs through the 70s and 80s. It has a brilliant soundtrack: Tears for Fears' Everybody Wants to Rule The World and a Glenn Hoddle montage. If you know what I'm talking about; is it available on DVD? It certainly should be, it's an ace video!

Nice video.

In case you are interested Harry, the track is called "Who Am I" by Peace Orchestra.

Taken from the Peace Orchestra album, rather originally called Peace Orchestra, and released in 1999. Still sounds fresh today.

It also featured on The Animatrix, the (IMO) excellent animation feature released as an accompaniment to (IMO) the ultimately disappointing Matrix movie trilogy.

Geek alert over here ;-)

Jol OUT Petition

Lets stop being so sentimental, Jol is tactically inept and it has cost us dearly both this season and last. We may have had 2 consecutive 5th places, but its not like we haven't spent the money. Jol has done well enough but he won't take us to the next level.

Anon 9:54,

have you been taking e this early in the morning...

seriously though, good comments.

great video too Hazza. can i call u Hazza?

tom yid although i agree on your point of jol out i think online petitions are pretty pointless tbh if they estimate that there is about 1million yids in the uk alone and a nerd turns up with an online petition with a couple of thousand sigs when its been accessable to the whole world it wont hold much sway i dont think, but i commend your effort! i reckon you'd be better off bombarding the club with your unhappiness of the management ,coaching, excuses etc via email ,phone etc , get the staff that work there talking about it and your more likely to get heard imo.

Anon 9:35,

I feel that so many spurs fans are blinded by the fact Jol is a 'nice bloke' and they feel sorry for the way he is treated (which don't get me wrong, I like the guy but he isn't the best man to be in charge) if we can get more than 20,000 signatures, only then will it be submitted. Maybe its just me, leaving the lane, not to mention Stadium of Light, Craven Cottage and Old Trafford painfully frustrated and facing long journeys home from away games.

Apparently, Berba's gone back to Primary School - http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/articles/berbavisitssouthburyprimaryschool180907.html

About time, too.

Do you think he sulked when he couldn't get the ball?

EUREKA!

I've just seen the pics of Berbs in primary school this morning and I found out what his problem is: he needs new pants!

Please send a few quid so he can buy himself a decent pair of jeans and all will be fine.

very strange. Berbatov never did this before. visiting schools? is he trying to get the merit with this instead of with his goals?

Anonymous said...

Yeah, Berbs is a spoilt baby. I don't think he's gay, as rumour has it. I simply think he's childish. Back to Primary School he goes then. Naughty boy. No goals, no pudding!

see, hh, all problems are solved: Jol out. Mourinho in.
