Revealed Robinson To Be Replaced

Hot on the heels of one ITK (Ben on FTL) announcing earlier that Juande Ramos had no real faith in England's Number Four, that his catching abilities were a concern....

"Kameni and Jarque are very interesting players and every player that is interesting is welcome at a club like Tottenham," Our man Gus told RAC1's First Touch programme, 87.7 FM in the Barcelona area.

"Both are on a long list of players that the sporting director has and that the club is looking at to strengthen the squad. The decision on which players will be approached has not been taken."

So there you have it folks. First Marco Amelia's agent confirmed his man was very close to signing now this. If either of these two are landed it is difficult to envisage either coming in purely to replace Cerny and merrily take up the role of Reserve Goalie...

so tell me, why is Ledley King still playing? Or is he still retiring?

Harry Hotspur said...

They are getting little wheels embedded in the soles of his boots and plan to wheel him out just for special occasions. This is from the Official site.

interesting if a little shocking article in the Mail
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/sport/football.html?in_article_id=522950&in_page_id=1779&ct=5

If this is true, get Berba in that top 20 ASAP and he MAY stay at WHL

Harry Hotspur said...

If that's the salary thing then I'm afraid it's cobblers...

Anonymous said...

course it's cobblers... Woodgate's our top earner, is he not? £60,000/wk...

cool - i am glad it is incorrect!

my team prediction for tomorrow:

robbo
hutton, dawson, kaboul, lee
tainio, huddlestone, boateng, ohara
bent, taarabt

bench: cerny, gilberto, zokora, keane, lennon

i really think that ramos will rest almost everybody ahead of the MASSIVE game against PSV on Thursday. If we fail to get a convincing win next Thursday, it could spell the end of our UEFA campaign

theshelfer said...

everyone knows that Robbo has lost it and so I would expect Ramos to get 2 keepers in at the end of the season, and one of these should be either James or Friedel.

They may be old, but the signing of Woodgate shows the immediate benefits of buying proven quality rather than buying talent for the future.

Harry Hotspur said...

the shelfer - spot on. I think one thing JR has said is that he doesn't want anymore kids. The issues need to be addressed NOW, not 2/3 years time.

1,20 & Arn,

Glad to see there's nothing wrong with himand all he needed was the run out at Wembley and he's back to full strength...

Truth is, Robbo has probably reached a psychological point-of-no-return at Spurs. A move to a new club would be to his short- and long-term advantage.

He would still have to conquer the doubts that apparently plague him, and improve his qualities as an athlete. But he'd feel at least valued, rather than scrutinised and judged.

Robbo was one of the first to praise Ramos when he took over. At the time, it seemed painfully like desperate flattery; and he appeared a fugitive from his diminishing reputation, trying to hide in plain sight.

Credit to Ramos that he wasn't swayed by sentiment. Let's remember that, just as the players have a task to perform, so does the coach. His remit is clear: deliver Champions League football. He intends to meet the requirements of his contract. Brutal as it seems, players are but means to that end.

Which is not to say that Ramos lacks a heart - of course not. But it serves no one and no purpose to deny it if a player falls short of a coach's expectations - the player least of all.

Robbo was hurt at the way he was unceremoniously dropped. No doubt he felt safe under Jol. Ramos' methods are not Jol's. Under Ramos, Robbo got off on the wrong foot - rather like many of his attempted saves. Rather like the goal he conceded in the Carling Cup Final - which, yes, he later redeemed himself for. COYS!

Watching that old cup final footage of Spurs' beating Chels*a in '67, it was great to see Jennings catch a cross one-handed. 'If only,' I thought, 'Robbo could do that. What confidence and assurance that kind of ability inspires!' But the ball was heavier in those days and football has changed. And Pat's hands were like fishing-nets.

Whatever happens in the summer - if Robbo stay or go - I wish him well. I hope his demons flee and his confidence returns. As fans, it's easier to turn on erstwhile heroes than it is to maintain support while simultaneously giving objective criticism. It's easier to hate than to feel the discomfiture of concern. Respect to fans for remaining supportive of Robbo and continuing to hold him in high esteem. At one point he genuinely was England's No 1. And if a new, foreign keeper is recruited to the Lane Robbo can still be England's No 1 again.

But probably not playing for Spurs.

Oi, Harry! What about a 'We beat the scum 5-1' ringtone for download?

Pre-match prattle , sir?

My pre match prattle, for what it's worth;

We need to keep our feet on the ground, concentrate on 3 points, Wembley is history, let's be professional and do a smash and grab. Leave arrogance at home. 2-0 to the mighty Spurs.

Thud and Kaboul centre back.

a) Let's be brutally honest, if Robbo does go then would it be such a bad thing? His positioning/marshalling of the defenders( for Drogba's free kick was standard Robbo. And it's not that high a standard, is it?

b) Leave Harry alone re: Ledley. His knee flared up again by all accounts. Not much of a shock there. Legend he is, fit to play week in, week out he is not. I'd love it if he fully recovered and were able to lead us out for every game, but it seems just a tad unlikely.

c) Not one person has seemed to consider perhaps Bent's inclusion in the "Top 20 earners" list may have been in part due to a whopping signing on fee... so whilst he is not Spurs' top weekly earner, if you added his salary for the year to his signing on fee it could well be possible that he indeed earned more (over the one specific year), no?

Probably will be Hudd/Zok and Kab in defence... Woodgate has a minor ankle sprain and will probably be saved for PSV. May as well be Zok in defence IMO, cos at least Hudd looks capable of putting one or two in the bag of the old onion bag when he's playing in midfield!!!

BTW *bag (no 1) should be back... oh if only we could edit our mistakes ;-)

Agree. One laurel is not enough to rest on. The Carling Cup win was but one step on a ladder. It's not the top, but a leg up.

Weather may play a part today. If windy, there won't be much time on the ball. Smash and grab, as you say, dannyboy.

Easy to get worked up for the big Wembley occasions. But Ramos won't allow the lads to be casual at St Andrews. It's back to the office, and work needs to be done.

Ledley still fighting the Battle of Wounded Knee. Woody sprained his ankle performing heroics. Centre-backs will be make-shift again. The more regularly we use irregular CBs the more regular they become.

Bent for a run-out? Keeps the engine turning over, I suppose.

Losing 3-0 to the Brummies. Totally unacceptably!!!

Anonymous said...

Bent is shite!!!

Anonymous said...

It shows badly, that not having decent center backs today - why we are 3-0 down!!!

Anonymous said...

"Bent is shite!!!"

What a prick. Are you at the game mate? Dickhead. We're losing because of a makeshift defence, players out of position (why?) and an obvious cup hangover. Still unacceptable though.

What has Bent contributed to our club?

15 Premier League appearances
3 Premier League goals

Hardly the real deal is he!!!

And should should be shipped out to a lesser side at the end of the season!

Clasic case of a player who shines at at a small club, but is shite at a better club!!!

That is why he is shite!!!

Bent has done bugger all today - need any more proof?

Anonymous said...

4-0 down 81 min!!! Any comments of the shitness of it all?

Anonymous said...

Simply not good enough!!!!

Anonymous said...

4-1 Jenas 90min. Shameful performance.

Anonymous said...

Open door policy at the back today. Just not good enough!!!

Anonymous said...

Wank.

Anonymous said...

Brummies - Forssell 7, 59, 81, Larsson 55

Spurs - Jenas 89

What the hell is going on? Clearly crap.

Anonymous said...

Get off Bent's back ya cretinous lot. 11 players make a team. Berbatov didn't score today - is he shit as well then? Numnuts.

Anonymous said...

dannyboy knows sod all about football if he thinks Bent is any good!!!

Anonymous said...

Berba at least came deep, had a couple of shots saved and generally held up the ball. Bent did absolutelky fuck all.

He's supposed to be lightning quick and great in the air. He breached their back line once and was called offside and given several headers and failed to either hit the target or win them at all.

The only thing the boy can hit is the road.

Piss poor display from the entire team other than O'Hara, but not overly disappointed. Different story if we play like that on Thursday though.

COYS!

Bent will come good, just like dannyboy's other protege - Jenas. You was all slagging him off 12 months ago, now look at him and you lot. I know sod all about football? Reveal yourself rather than hiding behind anonymous, ya spineless 12 year old!
