Everton vs Tottenham: Half Time Harry

Listening on the radio it sounds pretty grim fare. So here's part two of a two part photo series of hateful sausage eaters.

Spurs are deep. Woodgate's debut is described as solid enough. Berbatov not really into it nor Jenas. Steed bustling. Gunter capable. Lennon modelling afterburners. O'Hara getting plenty of the ball. A pretty good shout for a penalty in favour of Everton against Tommy H not given.

The microphones may be poor at Goodison but only in the dying minutes can I hear some pretty unconvincing strains of 'Spurs Are On Their Way To Wembley'.

This game BADLY needs a goal to shake it up.
COME ON TOTTENHAM!

bimitar ,yeah it was mate and strangely i'm pleased, good clean sheet on woodys debut and listening to it he done well, not the best or worst result tbh ,sounded like we didn't play that well but still got a point away coz we defended well,so ok with it ,what do people think is going to happen with chimbonda? are we gonna keep him or flog him tomorrow?

I think he might stay....till summer. Will be interesting now he has some competition for his starting place

Anonymous said...

might sharpen him up a bit and make him think twice about having little lazy spells during matches,we wouldn't of paid that much for hutton if he wasn't going to be first choice surely!will be interesting to see how chimb reacts to being back up! i suppose he can play cb as well but I've never been convinced when he plays there, maybe a decent offer in the morning will see him gone, even if he didn't make the comments that were accredited to him ,he must of come up short in some department in Ramos's appraisals or spanish inquisition

Just watched the full game on the TV: what a dire performance. Easily our most boring game since Ramos took over. Not saying it's a bad result, but just that it was uneventful.

Nil-nil away to Everton is a good score.

Cerny: 8. Had little to do but what he did do he did well. Made a good save from Johnson, which Woodgate the cleared.

Gunter: 8 Solid enough and showed enthusiasm and determination.

Shimbomba: 7 Gave the ball away a few times but overall was solid. Fluffed a good chance in the second half when he headered the ball onto his arm.

Woodgate: 9 Immense. Everywhere you wanted him to be, diving infront of shots, clearing balls off the line. Man of the Match performance. At one point did a little dance, hopefully more of a way to stay warm than to stretch his calf.

Huddlestone: 8 Again, solid enough. Made some good tackles and sprayed the ball around well, but no attacking threat to play through.

O'Hara: 8 Good tackles and showed some real temper and grit when squaring up to Johnson at one point. Terrier.

Jenas: 7 Not his best game, but was all over the park and making good tackles and trying to get fast breaks going. Again though, attacking options were limited.

Lennon: 8 Our main threat. Looked fast and threatening whenever he got the ball. Was snapped by Valente on more than once occasion when a good chance was on. Final ball improved, but why is he hitting the corners??

Malbranque: 7 Quiet game from Steeeed. Seemed to dither on the ball too much when an early shot would have been better. Tracked back well.

Keane: 6. Did very little. Had one chance and it resulted in a tame shot straight at Howard.

Berbatov: 6. Like Steed, seemed to want too much time on the ball. Nothing came off. Bad day at the office.

SUBS

Boateng: 7 Unimpressive, frustrating performance from a guy with a lot of potential. His touch is quality, but he passes sideways and backwards too often. Instead of backheels, why not try shooting? Can't do much worse than Zokora!

Overall, a rather lame, dire game, but a good result. The team played as a unit and looked fairly solid, bar a couple of minor mistakes. Boring due to our lack of threat infront of their goal.

Roll on United with the White Cafu at right-back.

That is one disturbing photo of Her Ladyship.

Thanks for the summary Ze Prince. Sounded a dreary game, but I feel strangely buoyed by it. A clean sheet! All good clubs have to be dull sometimes. Dull is good.

Woodgate seems a class act. Suddenly, I'm reminded that, in order to score against you, clubs should have to actively do something special, rather than wait for you to f*ck up.

O brave new world.

I want Spurs to have the most miserly defence in the league. I want us to have the Scrooge of defences.

0-0. Whatever next? Aliens on the Whitehouse lawn?

WOODGATE SUSPENDED NOW FOR MAN UTD DUE TO HIS YELLOW!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

The commentator on footie first said that as long as chelscum finish in the champ league places were back in uefa! can anyone clarify ?

Anonymous said...

a. The 6th place will qualify to UEFA Cup if the FA Cup's finalists or the League Cup's winner end 5th or higher;
b. The 7th place will qualify to UEFA Cup if the FA Cup's finalists and the League Cup's winner end 5th or higher;
c. The highest-placed team who applies for the Intertoto Cup and does not finish in an automatic UEFA Cup spot will be awarded with a place in the Intertoto Cup;
d. A further place in the UEFA Cup is available via the Premiership Fair Play League. The winner is placed into a draw with the winners of Fair Play leagues in other countries. The representatives from the two countries that come out of the hat first are given a place in the UEFA Cup First Qualifying Round. If the team who finishes top of the Premiership Fair Play League has already qualified for Europe via the league, their place in the draw will be awarded to the next highest placed team in the Fair Play League who hasn't qualified for Europe
he was talking crap

is woodgate suspended? crying shame if he is as he sounded superb. at least daws will be back!

Well, despite Woodgate's yellow card, Poyet seemed to think he's available for Saturday (in the post-match interview).

I assume it's for the Man U game. Unless he wants him to help build a patio.

On King I take zero delight in referring to the gloomy post I made some time ago...

I don't know the specifics but it's said that he is on a one way ticket to early retirement.

If it isn't fluid being drained from his knee then it's a problem with his hip.

Gilberto is apparently waiting on a work permit???

Tiago was abandoned two days ago and Arshavin is still being investigated by the Ridiculous Name

Harry. This is ridiculous nonsense. You're a serial blogger and in that respect there's little to separate you from Stan Collymore apart from a hard consonant... and I'm sure you've had a few hard consonents rammed down yr throat in your time.

Anyway, this Gilberto chappy. Why, when it takes 5 forms, 2 referees of moral standing and a non-red biro just to change yr address redirection at the post officedo we think we can get one sorted out in a matter of days? Is he coming in a truck via an eastern european leek pulling gang master to be picked up at teh travel lodge near spalding?

A work permit that is... not a hard consonant..

Watched the game on football first last night and although the result and performance were solid, it was uninspiring.

Woodgate was good, he's reading of the game looked excellent and he seems to have the ability of being in the right place at the right time without exerting himself, silky!

Gunter looked solid and didn't do much wrong.

The commentator definitely said Spurs had already qualified for Europe through the Milk Cup. I didn't belive this was the case and of course, he could be wrong, but its put the doubt in my mind.

I am now the proud owner of a Carling Cup Final Ticket. If that wasnt delivered in a smug enough fashion then please let me know!! :)

Slightly worried that we werent able to put away another reserve team at the first time of asking!

Although warm welcomes to young master woodgate and a clean sheet!

It's Them and Us said...

Brazilians are always a pain in the arse when it comes to permits as more often than not they don't qualify under the strict rules and that results in having to (needlessly) appeal. I think he's Brazil's left-back at present but I don't think he's played most of the games in the last year, I could be wrong.

Then it's International Clearance, making sure Hertha aren't holding it up so they can draft a replacement in, etc. I'd expect in typical Spurs fashion for this to go through late.

Should be in plenty of time for United.

We are DEFINITELY not in the UEFA Cup next year if we FAIL to beat Chelsea.

Forget the uninformed.

If it all goes tits-up against Chelsea then we'll NEED to win the UEFA Cup, or perform miracles in the league and finish 7th.

Gilberto move definitely OFF...deal cancelled after he failed a second medical or something like that..

oh well..

Anonymous said...

The transfer of Gilberto from Hertha Berlin to Tottenham Hotspur has collapsed, according to the Bundesliga club.

The player underwent a medical in London on Sunday and both clubs had reached an agreement over a fee, however the deal has been called off after results of a second medical on Wednesday "prevented a contract between the player and Tottenham Hotspur from being concluded to the original conditions".

"The Brazilian national team player Gilberto will fulfil his contract until June 2008 with Hertha Berlin," announced the Bundesliga side on their website.

Meanwhile, Hertha claim they have found Tottenham's attitude "incomprehensible".

The German club now risk losing the player in the summer on a free transfer after a fee in excess of 10million euros had reportedly been agreed between the two clubs last week.

"Hertha BSC and Tottenham Hotspur reached an agreement over the transfer of the player after the statutory medical last Sunday, when all conditions for a transfer were fulfilled," added a Berlin statement.

"Which is why it is all the more incomprehensible for Hertha the way Tottenham have now acted."

Gilberto was expected back in the German capital on Thursday afternoon to join in preparations for the Bundesliga restart this weekend, when he will be part of Lucien Favre's squad to face Eintracht Frankfurt.
another deal we have lost :(

It's Them and Us said...

That way it's been worded makes you think that Spurs would of prefered to offer him a 'pay-as-you-play' deal and Gilberto wasn't happy with that.

I suppose IF he is crocked, do we really want another guy who would struggle with injuries? Especially when he'd probably only play for two seasons (assuming Bale would be played in midfield. If not, then Gilberto would be only cover).

Anonymous said...

At least now we know Woody had a thorough medical.

Anonymous said...

I can't help thinking that this move was to enable Bale to push into the midfield.

So who's name is on plan B?

GRAZZA said...

YP Lee must be the luckiest footballer of all time, ever time someone is bought to replace him they get a long term injury or in this case fail a medical!!!!

Shame to lose out on any player rated so highly although i dont know much about the lad.

Sorry Bimitar i had to have a gloat!! :)

It's Them and Us said...

To be honest I'm a little disappointed we ruled out going for N'Zogbia. With his experience of playing left-back he could easily sit infront of Bale and give us a deadly left-hand side. Well, to go with our deadly right-hand side!

Maybe a move in the summer would be better, dunno.

So who didn't do their homework? Why spend all that time trying to buy a car with no engine?

I feel how when I'd accidentally kneel on a Subbuteo player and snap his legs from the base.

No amount of glue will fix it.

Spurs + Transfer Dealings + Managerial Appointment Dealings = Bull in a china shop

That was by far the most dismal game of the year in the prem. Ze Prince was wrong on almost every assessment.

First, the few positives. MOTM was O'Hara, who I am happy to admit I was totally wrong about. He is growing leaps & bounds every game and at times tonight singlehandedly dominated the central midfield. Offensively, he reminds me a bit of Pirlo - poised on the ball, head always up looking for a runner, nicely weighted passes into space for his teammates or dangerous curlers into the box if he doesn’t see any runners, and most importantly, he works very hard to find space for himself so that he can receive the pass from our defence and distribute the ball to our wingers.

Woodgate's performance was night & day between the 2 halves. 1st half, I think he was feeling his away around, as Anichebe dominated him - pushing him all over the field, winning all the headers, holding the ball up easily and setting up his teammates for some decent chances. 2nd half, JW had the best performance of a defender in a Spurs jersey in many years. Totally dominating as ZP wrote!

ZP - Keane and Berbatov did very little because the only service they had all night was from Cerny. Berbatov played the entire match close to the midfield stripe, because otherwise he never would have touched the ball (plus Cerny's kicks barely make it to midfield). Keane ran his tail off trying to get into space all night, and did get some decent service from Berbatov headers, but Everton always had 6 players packed in and the best Keane could do was to hold the ball up and pass it back to Jenas or Steed who would immediately pass it to an Everton player.

Outside of O'Hara, our midfield was a complete disaster. Lennon's crosses and corners were horrendous. JJ and Steed were turnover machines, every touch ended up in an Everton possession. One of JJ's many failed back passes was fed immediately to AJ who choked from 10 yards out all alone on the best chance of the game - although Cerny still made a terrific save. Steed and Jenas were so bad that it made KPB look like a superstar.

If Capello watched any of that game and still calls up JJ, then he's going to prove right away he is a sh*t coach and we don't have a prayer of qualifying for 2010 either. JJ plays 2 superb matches and now we have the nightmare of being reminded of this by dannyboy for each of the next 20 crap performances JJ is going to make us suffer through.

Harry Hotspur said...

Firstly let me say I am beyond envious with you lads getting your cup tickets.. as a low rent member I am resigned already to my soon to be groaned at 'we are sorry but on this occasion... Email.'

Gilberto is a fiasco. And I'm with Grazza in that you can bet the rent on it being some nonsense on our part that stalled things.

The commentator WAS talking rubbish of course, we must BEAT Chelsea or finish seventh to qualify.

On the Everton game, it was clear that Jenas wasn't on fire and I heard the backpass going west.
It was also obvious just from the radio that O'Hara was well and truly involved.

I really don't rate defoe at all since he can only ever perform when coming on as a sub at home when we are on top and the game is stretched (which just isnt good enough!) but surely we are not going to sell him to Pompey right now and leave ourselves short up front with so much left to play for this season....unless there is a surprise signing coming in no-one has predicted?!?!

Thing is - if Keane gets crocked/loses form then Defoe will be playing in a cup final in less than a months time! all being well with keane he is still nailed on to be on the bench. Why leave now other than money?

Harry Hotspur said...

I rather innocently Google imaged
" Vile/grasping bint with gaping trapdoor"..

EL said...

Never mind a goal Harry. The game needed some quality midfielders to shake it up. Come on you Comolli! Oops, too late.

That's Defoe's main problem I reckon; he needs quality through balls to be most effective but our midfield regulars aren't up to it regularly enough so we end up playing strikers who have the ability to drop into the hole and do it for themselves.

JGM, Gilberto has played most of his career at left back so I doubt he was cover for Hutton.

Dannyboy, I'm not a JJ hater but I make no apologies for wanting someone better in the middle. I don't want him to play crap, I want him to play consistantly well. The problem is; he doesn't.

Any suggestions for which midfield set up will give chelski the toughest game AND competently feed our front two?

I've been thinking for ages and I just don't think we've got the players unless they come over all 'arse*** 5-1' again and even then the chelski 1st team ain't no arse B team.

Did I hear right that Bale is probably out for the rest of the season?

i will be sad to see him leave, but even sadder if we don't replace him...

It feels like the night before Christmas.

Santa giveth Gilberto, but taketh away JD.

What else is on his sleigh?

9.37 Anon

Anonymous said...

I am sad to see JD leave but the truth is he should have scored far more goals. A couple of years back he and Keano were much the same they would score the impossible goals and not make the sitters, but Keano improved his positional play and to me is far more potent than Jermain. I am also concerned that he might end up going for nothing in 18 months.

Can anyone remember the close of window 5 to midnight successes? I think maybe Steed was one but seem to think the failures include Rasiak, Mido and Murphy !
