Champions League Defender Rejects Spurs Bid

Ranger's Alan Hutton.

One source is saying the bid was about £6 million plus a player, named as Wayne Routledge, yet again my eyes rolled at another swapsy suggestion, whoever the source is so I'm pleased this didn't happen for two reasons. The other is I have a thing about Scottish footballers. They are generally rubbish.

The modern day climate of leaks and ITK's to one side, how in the name of all that is sane did this one fall over? Answer? Greed on the part of the player/ his agents using THFC to guide in 'better' money. Well Alan. You were offered a ticket out of that toilet and I'll be pretty amazed if you get another. Alves you ain't.

spot on harry let him play for those scottish wankers...

Harry I agree with you plus why yet another right back ?. Surely we need a centre back a creative midfielder and a defensive midfielder !!

Anonymous said...

thats just plain borderline racism...Hutton is ten times the player Chimbonda is and now rather than be in the position of adding a potentially world class defender to the squad you'll be losing not only him but Berbatov as-well - i agree that in recent times Scotland has produced few players of genuine quality but for 5 to 10 years now grassroots football has been revamped up there and now the game is reaping the rewards, Hibs and especially Rangers and Hamilton Accies have a conveyor belt of talent coming through. you might even see them playing for Arsenal against you in years to come

Anonymous said...

Harry any news on who else we are trying for in this window ?

Anonymous said...

Scottish players are crap and so are scottish teams... Two fairly average teams and a football league consisting of part time khyber tossers, bagpipe players and haggis eaters... Ok maybe we will lose Berba... Have you ever or will you ever see a player like him at Ibrox???? Hutton is ten times the player Chimbonda is... lol... You are an idiot... The only reason he turned down a move to a bigger club and bigger league is he won't be guarenteed first team football unlike at your crappy two bit outfit...

There is a reason Scotland hasnt progressed as a nation in the last 500 years and is barely keeping pace with Albania.

A backwards nation populated by retards shit scared of change or progress.

'Rather stay in scotland'. Mug.

Can't agree Harry. Hutton would have been a top signing. Ah well, can't win 'em all.

Who is a borderline racist?

Anonymous said...

Hutton, decent player, good system, poor players around him. These three things combined make him look like a genius. Granted he has an abundance of talent and has shown glimpses of his potential, but which players haven't...even Titus Bramble has moments. I personally am glad he turned us down and would prefer we signed the finished article rather than the "new best thing." This makes me wonder... What's going on on the transfer front... It's eerily quiet considering we're tottenham...

Alves or Hutton?

Either.

Harry Hotspur said...

OK, which of the two would be a 'more better' signing than the other?

Anonymous said...

So Harry... you reckon Alves is coming to Spurs??????

Anonymous said...

That I don't know. I would have liked to see Hutton at the Lane. Alves is a top player but we haven't bid for him.

Anonymous said...

if alves was coming to spurs we wouldnt have bid for this jock.

Anonymous said...

just a theory but i expect that hutton was a planned replacement for chimbonda who could have been targeted by the chelski once more. We need defenders in every position lee is a liability so is dawson so is kaboul so is chimbonda make them look behind their shoulders

Anonymous said...

Harry - think your right on Hutton. He comes under that 'promising' category - while we need experience. But more than bit harsh on the Scots,H, mate. What would we do for a Dave Mackay or Richard Gough now? Then there was John White, Gilly, Steve Archibald, Bill Brown.
Ok, I'll give you Willie Young was a skulking gooner twat ...

Harry Hotspur said...

Harsh but hopefully not entirely unreasonable with it... Pompey.

I am hugely sceptical of Scottish players... so very few are ... any good mate.

Anonymous said...

So do you think Alves will join us????????????????????????? Amazing that you can never answer a question directly... Always this mystic/fanny around the point crap you come out with to disguise the fact you know sweet FA... Is berba going to stay?????????? C'mon give some answers boychick...

Anonymous said...

I hope Hutton gets cancer

Anonymous said...

Obviously I can't agree with the "all Jocks are crap footballers" line. I'm not sure I care where they come from if they're good and want to play for us and if they don't so what ? There are plenty of good players out there that would come to the lane it's just a question of whether dim Daniel and even dimmer Damian would recognise them based on who they've let go (Petrov, Young etc) and who they've bought. No even I don't have to name THEM !

Harry Hotspur said...

Forgive me.

A couple of points.

1) I didn't respond to your earlier question as I felt JGM's response was searingly adequate. Any stealth bid for Alves clearly doesn't exist if we are sniffing openly for second string players like Hutton.

2)Will Berbatov stay? I would be well within my rights to ask you to give a timeframe. Is he off in January? No.

Quid pro quo.

"Always this mystic/fanny around the point"

Whether he comes or not....makes little difference, but it probably would be a slight improvement in an area that was not too bad. Chimbonda (the mercenary) is probably at his highest value right now and in Hutton we get a much younger replacement who may or may not fulfill his potential....can't help feeling he's using Spurs to get a better offer tho....2-3 days to think it over....or wait and hope Sir Alex picks up the phone...doesn't sound like he REALLY wants to play for us does it?...but then neither did Chimbo....he was just desperate to get out of Wigan. Considering whats happenned to Ghaly he was lucky he did get out.

A bunch agents are touting their players right now and using clubs like Spurs to get something going.
I would have thought after the Ramos embarrassment the club would want to go about it's business as quietly as possible....I was a bit disappointed that Gus tipped the wink that the club was going to buy, but he was sending a message to the players....do the basics right or your out. We already have Gunter and I don't think we'll see much more than one good centre half coming in....we might sell tho... Ghaly...Gardner...Routledge anyone?

@@@@ off with the sob stories about one in a million players from yesteryear the sweaty socks are mostly really poor as stated and i don't see who anyone who likes football could say otherwise.

Harry Hotspur said...

Parklane67 Where do I start with you?

Basic use and understanding of English seems a good spot.

When I say 'most Scottish footballers are rubbish'

I meant - now pay attention here comes the tricky bit- exactly that.

Had I written ALL Scottish footballers (inc all those you listed) are rubbish... you would have had a point.

Now, you'ere welcome to randomly call me an idiot, I really don't give tuppence what you call me.

But if you intend to attack what I write, then please, only do so if you've understood it.

Or you may leave yourself open to being called.... a bit of an idiot.

I think Alan Hutton's a good player with a great future. Of course we'll have to wait and see if that's true.

Hello lads outer space calling all you chaps down South.

First thing is first I couldn’t care less where anybody comes from.

The only qualification anybody should have if you want to play the game is well can you play.

What are the pros and cons of this deal for the spurs if this goes ahead?

Pros

He is athletic

He is quick

Cons

Poor in the air see Muttons marking of Celtic players during MON era.

Terrible first touch

Valuation EPL = A rich goldmine for clubs selling average players.

Very fond of the two footed lunge when he knocks ball too far in front of him.

Discipline this so called Cafu would rack up the suspensions big time because the English refs would not turn a blind eye to his antics like they do up here.

Best of all he likes to take a tumble (don’t think he would get away with it to often in the EPL cameras and all)

Most importantly of all he cant defend when he comes across half decent opponents see Rangers Vs Lyon, Scotland Vs Italy and the arse rippings he has taken from Aidan McGeady.

His potential transfer and valuation have been driven by the Scottish press. Rangers need the cash they have massive debts which have been incorporated into their Chaimans companies and he is looking to sell the club asap. It’s not a good thing in Liberal free thinking Scotland for a poor Celtic team to march away with title no 3 on the trot. Ohh and the future valuation of Rangers.

I will be the fist to tell you my team is the famous green and white hoops but I am a realist.

There are only two players of real calibre up here but that’s up to you lot to work out.

PS Before Smiths arrival and his inevitable influence on the Scottish authorities Rangers fans would have had him punted for less than a million this time last year.

The truth is not out there it is staring you straight in the face

Would have been pleased to see Hutton come in to be honest, defenders are needed.
If he doesn't want to be a Spur though, fuck him!

Bale - Mexes - King - Chimbo

That looks an alright back 4. According to BMJ we could have had Mexes rather than Younes (although he WILL be good...I agree with many saying we need defenders who are good now, or who are both eg Bale).

Anonymous said...

Another brilliant blog. We slag off a player who may or may not join us. Has anyone noticed that we may be signing two new full backs when we are in desperate need of a Central Defender ?

Whasupppppppppp ?

Anonymous said...

Harry Hotspur - how dare you patronise me? There's nothing wrong with my English mate, but there's plenty wrong with your logic!

How can you defend your comment by saying you meant that you only meant that 'most Scottish footballers are rubbish' not all of them. If that's really what you meant, then the whole of your article was fatuous - It's like saying "most Brazilian footballers are rubbish" - probably true, but the best ones are fantastic... and likewise the best Scottish footballers over the years have been pretty good, especially when they've played for the mighty Spurs.
I'm sorry that you were offended by my calling you an idiot, but you set yourself up for comments like that when you write these kind of inflammatory articles.

Anonymous said...

Well, I would have liked to see him join our defence, someone who can defend set pieces would be handy ;)

Certainly seems like Chimbonda is on his way though (particularly as we have also signed Gunter). I suspect Chelsea may be his destination rather than Newcastle though.

Anonymous said...

parklane67 That's a good argument but where does that leave the assertion that most gooners are ugly ?

Hey Harry think what you do is great and love the site. Looks like the transfer may be back on he wants a few days to think about it (aka a few days to see if Man U come in). Ive lost faith in Chimbo a little, and i guess Poyet and Ramos did say big changes to the back four. I dont think people should worry about CBs coming in thats a dead certain i expect a left back aswell probs Urby but i love Bale. LEGEND! I also think most Scotland players at the moment are very poor and not premiership quality sorry parklane look at Mcfadden.

raf_thfc: He can’t defend full stop read the post 11:48. Remember every day is a school day

anonymous: Yes the quality of the average player in Scotland is well average except my good friend the two absolute gems and one young lad (17) who will be soon become extra special. PS have a look at the quality of English players in your own backyard before you talk about anybody else. One final little snippet for you all there is a much bigger picture to all this that you don’t know about but once again Sherlock do your homework and you might make the grade. Yer pal from outer space who thinks you are all tip top down there.

I can remember at times like these in the past we've made some hilarious purchases....Ramon Vega, Neil Ruddock, Dean Richards (sorry Deano) even BMJ went out last ear and got Rocha who hasn't exactly been the solution we were looking for. ...wonder what we're gonna get this time...but one things for sure Danny and Dummy will have to break their transfer policy and bring in some experience to guide the talented young players we do have or I fear it will be more of the same.

Anonymous said...

As you know Har, I'm a Spurs man myself, but I must admit the "borderline racism" accusation did make me have another read.

You weren't racist, as most people seem to have claimed, by saying "Scottish players are generally rubbish". As ParkLane67 pointedly noted that is just a flimsy generalisation.

What I don't like is your reference to Mr Hutton's chance to escape a "toilet". Now, is that Ibrox - which regularly sells-out its 60,000-odd capacity - or Scotland as a country? If it is the latter then the racism tag is justified. Although I have heard far far worse and don't hold it against you as a Spurs fan - just an Englishman.

Ze Prince

Anonymous said...

anonymous: tut-tut fur I gave you good advise in my last visit do your homework because every day is a ……… ……. Before you enlighten the world on your wisdom 60,000 capacity???? Take 11,000 away and you are close. There is only one stadium in Glasgow that is a 60,000sell out every 2nd week and it aint Mordor.
Remember that money makes the world go round and there is plenty in the EPL just noo. But never forget that good things don’t last forever. Yer pal from way up here who thinks you are all swell.

Anonymous said...

Hard to know what to believe from these hoops fans - do they not rate him because he plays for Rangers, or because they don't want rangers to net £8m...or he could be crap as they say....

Well this time Commolli is in the firing line, we need at least 1 top quality, experienced CB, has to be the priority, and cover/replacement for Chimbonda wouldn't be a bad thing - maybe Commolli is thinking along the same lines as when he said we didn't need a left winger... i.e. play Zokora or Chimbo at centre back (which would be madness long, or medium term, and for more than a few games as emergency cover).

....and I'm pretty sure Rocha was a Commolli signing unless someone can enlighten me, I don't think we can put the blame on Jol for that one!

Anonymous said...

raf_thfc: I sure like your style for you are listening and learning. As I posted before there are pros and cons with Mr Mutton but which one outweighs the other that is for you to determine for you are the buying club. But once again look closely at the big picture for there is more to this than you think. Am I worried about 8mill heading in that direction no sir e fur there is gold aplenty in them there hills. Remember remember there are lots of average players plying there trade in the jackpot EPL and many more coming at high costs to you all. Fur one thing a Scotsman is he is cannae with his loot. Fur our two gems which will one day become three that 8mill will look like chicken feed. The word is sell sell sell. Buy them cheap and sell them high that’s what all cannae men do. Yer pal who has no agenda night night from above.

Anonymous said...

After sleeping on it and taking Dannyboy's wise advice "Someone said to me once never make comment in temper".

Here are my thoughts on fixing our defensive problem;

I don't believe we need to "can" all 3 of Dawson, Kaboul and Ledley at all.

Yes Dawson is not the leader we all thought he was, but he was still decent and looked like a potential John Terry for the past 2seasons before this one. Although he isn't the most cultured, his strengths usually before this season were his robustness, doing the basics well, and his ability to make vital challenges both on the ground as well being commanding in the air. Now I don't believe those abilities have completely gone to shit in 4 months. I think just like the rest of the team and especially the defence he's lacking confidence in himself, as well as his inexperienced new partner Kaboul.

Kaboul - Obviously not the best of starts to his prem career but thrown in at the deepend and talked up far too early pre-season easy games before reality of the hard hussle and bustle of the prem hit. Has a lot to learn, but cannot write him off after 4 or 5 months. Needs to be nurtured and brought on more often from the bench and calmed by an experienced head when on it. Zokora alongside him shockingly brought the best out of him so far.

Ledders - Its clear his ability to be fit on a regular basis is in question, but when he is fit is one of the best.

Solution;
Not 3 new central defenders needed. What we do need is 1 top class central defensive addition - no nonsense with the ability to lead/orchestrate the defence as well as command respect NOW.

Whether this be a short term fix till the end of the season or a longer term addition I dont know.

There are pros n cons of both;

If we take a short-term player - could be someone like Jonathan Woodgate, provided he passes vigorous medical examinations. Someone like him has good prem experience, has decent defensive leadership skills and as we've seen before, usually makes an immediate impact at his clus as we saw at Middlesborough last seasn.

If we take a long term fix - has to be world class, which would mean him probably coming from La Liga or Serie A. The problem with this would be, as we've seen before foreign players need time to settle and at the same time our current players need time to gel with the new player also.

In this category, since admitedley I watch less and less of foreign football these days, due to the best players already playing in the prem bar a few, I don't know much about the likes of Jarques or Stendardo that we have been linked to.

Could Harry or anyone else be so kind as too dig up some info on these guys?

Additional solution needed;

A left-back who can do his primary job of defending well before or as well as offering attacking abilities.

Its beyond me why we keep bringing jacks of all and masters of none - look at what that has done for our midfield. Yeah versatility is welcome by all means, but please! please if you're a defender be able to defend for fuck sake!...yeah you guessed it, I'm talking about Lee. Besides, I can see Bale being the solution to our left midfield problems along with O'Hara and Steed gives us plenty there for now. So would love to see a competent left-back behind them who does not inspire the opposition to exploit our left side of defence as an obvious weakness.

Whats changed?
Pre-Season we all thought we could do with central defensive cover, someone like Curtis Davies which didn't happen. Now we realise we need a prominent "Prem ready now" top class reliable defender. with any of Dawson, Ledders and Kaboul to play alongside him. In essence very much like we need a quartet of 4 top strikers, we actually need 4 top defenders at the other end to balance out our strengths too.

Maybe when we reach champions league football, who knows we may be looking for an addition - a world class defender. It's all about appropriate and proportional progression innit.

In the meanwhile, we just need a central defensive superman to help out the other 3 main lads.

Incidentally anyone remember 2 seasons back when with Dawson, Ledders we actually look pretty solid and instead were all complaining instead that we needed more in the striker department to compliment JD and Keano.

Times have changed but don't mean Daws and Ledders have changed to crap players overnight!...don't believe that.

For form is temporary but quality is permanent...enough from me...BIOYC/COYS!

By the way Sky Sports says the offer for Hutton, is being "considered" not yet refused. Does this mean Chimbonda's off?...again Harry/anyone anymore info?

Has any one seen this about Ledley King?

Ledley King is set to return in Saturday's FA Cup clash against Reading at White Hart Lane.

The England defender was forced to miss the Premier League defeat at Aston Villa on New Year's Day because of a knee injury.

And Ramos has vowed to ease the King back after seven months out with injury.

"In the last game he ended up with an inflammation of the knee," said Spurs boss Juande Ramos.

"Playing every two or three days, you have to give him a rest."

bueller said...

How many times have we heard that his knee inflames after a game. I find it quite worrying. It sounds like he's had the same problem for about 2 years now.

It's a bit Paul McGrath-esque.

Back to the main point everybody fools and their money are soon parted. Do your homework fur this one has more mileage in it.

Fur all you spurs out there a piece of advice that you should all think about. Everybody has their position in life whether they like it or not your current position is a fair one. Just ask your special one. Yes there is more money in the EPL but that means the only winners are the agents the players and the nicely fur us selling clubs from outside. This is going to be the pivotal month for THFC to show that we have the ambition to want to drive forwards and challenge.

We must:

1.Keep Berba to the Summer and resist all offers for him in January.

2. Play well against the Goons in the CC Cup and not falter at the Cash burden Rubbish Tip and beat them over 2 legs and Berba will be in a final and we can go on to qualify for Europe by winning the trophy.

3.Buy 2 new central defenders with experience who can tighten our defense and stop conceding goals at set pieces.

4. Buy a new RB who is strong defensively who is able to push Chimbo as the current resources are not good enough.

5.Show that we are a buying club with ambition and who do not want to sell our players to other clubs.

6.Move up the League.

Harry your blog is dandy you get all types on here and I am sure I will be back.
For our clubs are so much alike in many ways. A rich history and supporters who want to see the game played in the correct fashion.
PS never buy in January unless the price is right.

Err, MacKay, White, Gough, Archibald? Also, I loved Glasgow - great people - friendlier than Edinburgh in my limited experience.

As you now know, the Hutton Report(?) is genuine - original source the player's agent - later confirmed by Glasgow Rangers - although they have not confirmed the figure, nor the involvement of any make-weight player.

Whatever, it seems certain that Spurs are looking for a RB, whether that means Chimbonda is departing (most likely destination Chelsea) or Stalteri, we can only guess. Let us hope that, whatever transpires, we do not allow either to leave until a suitable experienced replacement is secured; Although I hear LYP can play on the right ;-)

Harold, is it folly (on Levy's part) to pursue players from clubs playing CL football?

To re-cap, so now we need a RB to replace Chimbonda/Stalteri, a LB to replace/cover for LYP/Bale and an experienced CB to replace/cover for Ledley. Not to mention upgrade Zakora and Jenas(?) And someone to provide competition for Lennon? Whose hall carpet has Routledge trodden doo-doo through by the way? Has he ever had a real crack of the whip?

A tall-order for the January sales don't you think.

PS: I'm confused, can our Chairman's word not be relied upon. Levy/Ramos say only 'shite' (I'm para-phrasing) business is done in January; Four days in and we've attempted to close two deals already.

Levy: No significant business will be done.
Ramos/Poyet: Enough is enough, I'm going to replace every mother-f*cking one of you

Chirpy,

I know what you mean. I was expecting no signings and no players to leave based on the Chairman's words.

Then Bang!

Gunter signs and Huttons knocks us back.

Mind you, Levy has always had an untrustworth, perfectly spherical face.

Of course he lies.
He is the chairman of a Premier League club.

Personally I wouldnt want an honest to goodness friends of the earth chairman.

Would get fucked over before he took his seat.

Its a dog eat dog world is football.

Yes, you are of course quite right JGM. It's just I'm such a delicate flower, it all upsets me.

Not to stand up for the 'Spheroid One', but in his defence I dare say a declaration that "we're going to buy big this January" would have added an extra zero onto anyone's valuation that we bid for.

So, Sir Alex comes out and says he's making no bids for anyone in the window...and straight away up comes another "story"...that Berbas agent has been contacted by Bayern...where do you think this comes from?...Dantchev of course, he's touting his client around like a very high priced hooker and now Manure have dropped out he needs to create some competition to motivate Chelsea to pay the 30mill plus...well I very much doublt Bayern have 30mill lying around to blow on one player. Anyway...wouldn't that amount to tapping up?...as for Chelsea demanding that he hand in a transfer request first..how stupid do they think we or Chelsea are?...after the Arnesen deal..it would be really smart to go out and publicy state that you are tapping up another teams player...this whole window business is starting to stink...it's an agent feeding frenzy!

67, very entertaining posts, and knowledgeable as well.

With Celtic signing Hinkel for a cut price 1.9m (seems like a steal at first glance) you do have to wonder at why we woulld shell out more than 4 times that figure for someone unproven in one of the top European leagues.

I do sometimes wonder what is wrong with our ability to buy appropriately when it comes to defenders....

swap Berby with real madrid for Cannavaro, Sergio Ramos

raf_thfc: You got it in one. Scout them first and draw up your transfer list. Make sure they are young and full of potential. Then do your homework on the player not just their ability but the type of characteristics they have as a person. That’s the easy bit. Doing the deal is the hard part for there are always 3 parties to be kept happy clubs and agents. Once you have your man develop his image and skills in a winning team and then sell them to the EPL making lots of lovely loot. While you do this you hope you can progress each year in the Champions league giving ever more exposure to your club and its player’s ohh and making ever more loot. That’s what the hoops are doing millions are being invested in training facilities and the scouting network. It has needed the attention. Combine that to our global appeal and we cant go wrong.

Scottish football has had to have a good look at itself and at the U12, U14, and U16 levels there is top talent coming through just like the old days keep a watchful eye over the next ten years. We will continue to watch you lot blow the sky money on crazy transfer deals making lots of forgiven players and clubs rich.

Will you ever win the world cup again I am afraid not unless you start developing your own players. Your league is a joy to watch but only three teams can win it.

Ps Before I go watch out for G14 that is where you need to be. Its invite only and we have got ours.

Looking doon fae above yer pall who knows you all mean well (including you Frontwheel)
