Tottenham Defender Deal Done And Dusted

Word just in that the deal is indeed done and Spur's first signing but not the last of the January window is... Chris Gunter. Looks like a rugby player spelt like a German. Let's hope he doesn't play like a Rocha. The 'package' I am told is worth around £4 million with attachments various.
What else can I tell you? He's Welsh and eighteen. Undoubtedly one for the future, but as our boy O'Hara can tell you, tomorrow comes alot quicker when you've Juande Ramos at the helm.
With thanks as ever to Spurs Odious.

Lets hope he is the real deal!

So who is he? I only watch my beloved Spurs, and leave the rest alone, including the championship (2nd Division). Is his left foot for kicking, or just for standing? Any chance of an experienced signing or three? Are we destined to be the best team in the world in five years time, or sooner? Like the sound of him though, especially after Klinsman and Freund. COYS!

you obviously don't read articles either do you. Actually the picture should have given you a clue......Mug

Let me just pu this out there... What message does this Gunter buy send to Ramos? Did he ask for a young LB rather than an experienced and proven player who can help the current cause? Or is this another one of Commoli's "one for the future" -- like Bent, Bale, Taarabt, Boateng and Kaboul (none of whom were asked for by Jol)? I would suggest the former Arsenal man has been told to recruit the youngest (preferably English) talent he can so as the club can maximize return on its investment. The irony is that while this can be considered good business it isn't exactly what one the average fan pays his hard-earned money to see on the pitch. This may be acceptable for a smaller club, but this is Tottenham Hotspur. The club's fans have a right to expect the pursuit of honours and achievement.

Yeah, and a Happy Christmas to you too Bullers! Articles can be misleading at best, even Wenger applauded our side, after being shocked at our performance yesterday, admitting his side were lucky. Results tell some of the story, but seeing is believeing. Being a Welsh international is something to be proud of, but not all are as gifted as Bale or Giggs, and a young proud scowl doesn't mean too much either. Youth are fine for the future, and the Bales and Rooneys, (Once a Blue, always a Blue!), are dotted with flash in the pans. And we would be in a better position if we had bought Petrov and some quality experienced players, rather than players for the future. But I do applaud the gathering of fine young talent, as long as we keep them, unlike Carrick, and go on to greater things. All I am asking Bullers, is do we have another Bale, and are we going to have to be patient, something I am sick of having to utilise. And as for watching too much football, or reading every bit of misleading trash made up by a press looking for sensation for the masses, designed both for a piss-taking population, and sales. So, no I am not too interested. Neither in bad press, or a saturation of football. And in truth, most coaches have to work with that provided by the board, whether we like it or not, they do own our clubs, and egos do not make a successful team. So I stick to our beloved Spurs, and yes, admittedly some matches or stories that catch my eye. The future is Lillywhite, the future is now! COYS!

Petrov?? I would rather have Bale. Why should we pay 50000/week to any player. I also think that some of you supporters don't live in this world. Currently, WE ARE NOT A BIG CLUB. Maybe a big club when it comes to fans and media attention, but when considering results; we are a mediocre premiership team. To move forward we have to know where we stand. I am really proud that we have a payment policy at the club. That we don't pay ridiculous money for players whose only reason for choosing spurs is the size of their weekly payment. As we are not a big club and not willing to pay huge stupid salaries we are not in a position to bring in world class players. I totally agree with the club policy. I would rather buy the biggest talent, than spend my money on average players like Petrov. The top teams would not even look at petrov. We know exactly what Petrov can do, but there is still plenty to come from our group of the best talent in Britain.

Whilst it's good to have new young talent coming to the club, and I know the priority has to be the defence and mid-field, shouldn't we also sort out the strikers?

I'd be in favour of selling Keane, DeFoe and Bent and using the money to buy someone who actually knows how to put the ball in the net.

Do you think Comolli made a mistake and signed the wrong Bent ie: should we have had the one who went to Wigan for 50p instead as he seem to know where the goal is?

And Keane, every time he plays we ship goals, he misses them when it matters, and he keeps JD in a Pi**ed-off mood so he can't be bothered when he comes on.

There are so many problems for Ramos to sort out of the mess that Jol and Comolli made between them that frankly it is remarkable that we are performing so well.

Hope the performances continue to improve in the new year and that we get rid of most of the so-called strikers, the mid-field make-weights and the defensive no-shows and replace them with some players of proven quality as well as youngsters for next season.

Merry Christmas and COYS.

Maureen, why aren't you on Spanish Spurs talking to yourself??

Agreed about Bale, Kristian, bit I would like Petrov too! As for massive wages, thats the going rate, like it our lump it. The players wages are obscene, but that's what they are being offered, and we would take it too. It's just a shame that earnings are becoming more important to some than the sport. As for not being a really big club, CRAP! We have tremendous resources and a massive fan base. If and when we become as successful as the Gooners, we will be regularly filling up a 60,000 stadium also. We have not been run as well as other clubs, but the potential is there already. And the present board is after success, that's why we have Ramos/Poyet at the helm. And Maureen, that's what these forums are about, points of view. If you want to start a debate about something else, then type away! COYS!

What about the Alan Hutton link HH, do you know if there is any truth in it?

I'm with Markspur on this one.

Its all very well having these "one for the futures"...but we need contributions to the first team now, not youngsters who need 2years to languish in the ressies.

The signs are good with regards to Ramos being more willing to stick the young uns in earlier than his predecessor however.

But agree if he is another youngster to saturate the "up n comers", then that is no good to us now, especially given we should have priorities due to our injury depleted first team along with one of our midfield/defenders soon to depart for ANC.

This lad also currently plays in the championship, which is fine if he's a Bale type, but I guess we won't know till we try him.

However Like Bale, he is a Full Wales international which must mean he's half decent to begin with, then there is always that comradery he'll have with bale as his team mate and the potential to be club and international buddies for years, which may contribute to keeping Bale happy and till we're at a stage where we can provide champions league footy.

All in all, looks like a calculated risk which I feel would not have been made if we had a limited budget where the "ready now" experienced type players would have been preferred to plug first team gaps NOW. So must mean the cash reserve in the old coffers are very decent.

Kristian - you do have a point about us being realistic about the top players we can bring in though, I am always guilty of wanting the best Schneider, Van Der Vaart, Huntelaar, Quaresma...to name a few. Whether they would join us is another matter completely.

At the same time, do not agree that Petrov would not have been value or quality enough to contribute. Proven international team mate of Berba's with one oi the best left side assist rate in the prem at 4.7 million...erm isn't that something we've been missing???

Getting young players is good, but we must get players for the 1st team at the same time.

Results is what matters most!!

Markspurs:
The likes of Maureen are useless cunts. Haven't got a fucking comment to make on football because they don't remotely understand the game. Spurs fan? Who fucking
Knows or cares, just be grateful that while they snipe at those of us WITH football to talk about they hopefully aren't downloading child porn.

is another full-back really needed? surely its the centre of defence that needs strengthening!Poor MJ took alot of stick which IMO should have been pointed at the former scum scout Comolli. He seems to think that as long as he keeps signing these youngsters that show a bit of promise thats ok regardless of their position and whether or not we actually need them. We need to start signing players that are going to improve the team now not five years later!

Well, 6.42, Maureen is probably burning the Turkey and demolishing the Christmas Pud, so we'll leave her comments till when she's allowed out of the kitchen. Meanwhile, I'll be dreaming with Vinny and all of you, of Santa playing in Lillywhite, unpacking a couple of Hoddles, Greaves', Perrymans and Englands', under our Christmas Tree, along with a Learn English in 3 easy lessons CD for the majestic Ramos, a trip to Mars for Commoli, or maybe better not, he would probably sign some Mysterons! I await eagerly for my new 60's legends mug from Bullers, a trip to Wembley with the League cup and the Uefa cup from our chairman, staff and players as a belated Christmas Present, proving our start was all a ruse to catch out our opponents and Wish H.H. and you all a Very Merry Christmas! COYS!
