The Daily Mail Now Hiring - Must Have Own Squirty Flower

The Daily Mail's Sportsdesk

Sol Campbell to return and save us, eh? A tale too tall and not even a made up name signed after it. What an insult. Presumably you monkeys can read, so read on...

Harry challenges you, in fact, double dares you to reveal your sources. Or just admit you have no grasp of this club and could very well just be writing about baked beans.

Your steaming pile of poo poo just won't do. We can cope the usual Defoe plus 'some Lego, £5 million and an Action Man Helicopter Command Centre (with batteries and original box) to Blackburn' transfer window rubbish, but you lot need a reminder.

I appreciate the dilemma of your middle class minesweepers... the minor Royals are generating little of interest you can publish and the breathtaking Nigella steadfastly refuses to have an affair, but fer chrissakes... get a grip.

"My heart and soul is here and I want to play for Spurs. I am going nowhere."
August 4, 2000.

"I can assure everyone that I won't be signing for another club while I am still a Spurs player. I want to win the Premiership and I want success in Europe but, most of all, I want to believe I can achieve that here."
December 3, 2000.

"Being a Spurs fan as a boy and a player for so many years, it would be hard for me to sign for Arsenal. I don't think the fans here would ever forgive me."
December 17, 2000.

"I want to play for Tottenham, that's it really. I am going nowhere - *January 1, 2001.*
I'm happy here and willing to do business now. I'm not selfish, I'm looking at the current situation and want the club to do well."

January 5, 2001.

"It's the ambition of Spurs and where we are going that concerns me. I have the right to keep my options open. Nobody can blame me for wanting success and above all wanting it at Tottenham. But talk is cheap. "
March 11, 2001.

"As long as the club is healthy and things are in place, then myself and other players will want to join Tottenham or continue with them. I want to stay at Tottenham."
March 26, 2001.

"There is still a lot of sorting out to be done but I am sure it will be resolved."
April 1, 2001.

"I will leave it as late as possible - but I am happy at the moment and that is the main thing."
April 13, 2001.

"Going abroad is not in my mind. the ball is in Spurs' court now. I am in no hurry because I want to look at the whole picture. We will just have to wait and see what happens in the next two or three weeks."
May 21, 2001.

Campbell signs for Arsenal on a Bosman free on July 3, 2001.

and people ask why he is still disliked. Poor Sol, if he hadn't had lied then none of this would be still happenning

You said it all showing those quotes. If he had the balls to say what he intended to do then fine, we would still have hated him, but at least he would have shown he was a man and not just a money- grabbing turncoat who used his supposed love for his team to achieve pockets full of 20 pieces of silver.

You could say the Mail did have a source (of sorts), as the story was originally run in the sports' pages of Friday's Times. A new high for the Mail - they clearly lack the intelligence to make up their own bulls##t stories.

Spot on Harry. As if he would ever come back. What is worrying though is that Defoe's agent is the same Sky Andrew and J D has been coming out with similar "I am happy here" type quotes without seeming to want to sign a new contract.

ha ha, yeah I read that yesterday, didnt think it warranted a response, you must be bored Harry...Any idea if the game is on any satellite channels today, they have Albanian down my local, not supposed to show the 3 o'clockers tho...

Fair Enough, Sol is a Judas ba*tard but his recent moaning about abuse from fans shouldn't just be dismissed as prima-donna rantings: I agree that he deserves stick from yiddos, even after all this time, but I have never agreed with the putrid and vile abuse that he gets from some of the fans at the lane - that's just not on. There's a particular song about him having Aids and being mad and ending up hanging from a tree. The people that offer up that bile are juvenile and pathetic and deserve to be barred from WHL for life as far as I'm concerned.

Two points, harry. Firstly, The Mail attributes its story to The Times, although I can't find it on their site. Did anyone see it in the printed edition?

Secondly, I met a Daily Mail journo at the 125 DVD launch. He works for the printed edition and told me that the web site is run not by journalists, but by kids that just surf the net for Spurs' stories which they then reprint on their site.

Spurs' stories are the most-read on the Mail site so they are desperate to print anything to keep their visitor numbers up.

Trouble is, as they don't do any research, they are often getting into legal trouble. Some people may recall the fan blog they published at the beginning of October, claiming it was written by Daniel Levy!

And yes, I was bored!

re: onedavemackay... according to the commentators during the foolham game, Defoe has changed his agent. Possibly a sign that he is close to signing a new contract, rather than being led to do a-Sol (asshole geddit?!).

However even with his previous agent being the same - the Defoe situation has to be looked at in a different light. Here's one of the best strikers in the country, getting 10 mins per game - I don't think he'll do the same as Sol, but he's in a more justifiable situation to do it. Sol was given everything, started every game, handed the captaincy etc - I wouldn't blame Defoe if he did.

Cmon u Spurs

Agreed Defoe has more to be unhappy about than our ex captain who loved us so much and was so loyal he went to our most hated rivals for nothing (not that I'm bitter you understand !) and I wouldn't blame him for wanting to go. I just don't want to see him go for nothing.

Hmmmmmmmmm! An arSol redeemer! Well Dildo, to start, 1), give all of his money to a worthy cause, 2), an open admission on Sky Sports admitting the sheer evil of his ways, 3) take a one-way trip, with no hope of return, to Jupiter!" COYS!

Magnificent in all it’s lunacy, 6-4 and it’s Merry Christmas, though a Happy New Year seems far from certain

I actually love the 'command chain' element to this.

To me, this says we have players, we have contracts, we have managers, we have directors.

Therefore we have line management and structure.

If anyone the fans love walk, it is because they are superfluous (if we are doing our job right) or they are a ****.

You Tottenham fans should welcome Sol back with open arms, he left so he could win some meaningful trophies down the road at Le Arseholes, and now he's ready to come back.
