Tottenham Hotspur vs Getafe CF Team Predictions!

Image restolen from Godsquad.com, saucy gits

Martin Jol appears by his own admission, to have rested Dimitar Berbatov from the Newcastle game for tonight's UEFA tie with Getafe CF. The cynic in me says he sees the route to a big silver cup playing second tier European teams easier than those offered by any domestic competitions.

Of course he could simply be playing Napoleon again and having a crack at a bit of the rather 'in vogue' squad rotation malarkey. Who knows.

Either way, Getafe are no Famagusta Anorthosis away and the outcome of this game has to be resoundingly positive. Make no mistake folks, the rather wet draw achieved in Cyprus was masked largely by distance, the huge score we took with us and the fact that only fans able to watch Channel 5 three quarters through the working day were able to watch it.

Tonight's fixture will be witnessed before a quite possibly very belligerent home crowd wanting a win. Not to mention a display that indicates our current league position is a hiccup that that can be soon cured. I should point out that I don't believe this lot to be Eurotrash as some are suggesting. We will have a game on our hands.

My team:

Cerny

Chimbonda Kaboul Dawson Stalteri

Zokora

Lennon Huddlestone Malbranque

Berbatov Defoe = 11.

Subs: Alnwick Gardner Boateng Taarabt Keane

Harry, you've got a nice team there, that wont be the team for tonight though.
Jeans (yes i mean Jeans) and Tainio will probably be in the mixer, and Boateng and Taarabt wont be on the bench.
Not saying i dont want them to be!
Id like to have Lennon on the right and Taarabt on the left from the start, with Huddlestone holding and Boateng bombing on, wont happen though. Ah well.

HH I agree that would be a good selection, unfortunately I don't see BMJ dropping Jenas, who has not stepped up to the plate, and is clearing not good enough to boss a midfield against Nicky Butt!!
I'd like to see Boateng start or Yasser Kazim from the under 18's cos I saw him play against Cov 18's with skill, heart & steel.

Alnwick Is not registered to Play in the UEFA CUP

Getafe aren't tobe taken lightly. They are struggling (like us) but have their tails up after their first win at the weekend. Coming to WHL will be a tough prospect for them although they have all played under the lights at the Camp Nou and Bernabeu so i think they will cope. Some good technical players and a good solid skipper. We need to be resiliant in midfield, calm at the back and TAKE OUR CHANCES. Do all that and it should be a breeze.
Cerny, Chimb, Daws, Kaboul, Stalteri, Hudd, Malbranque, Taarabt, Lennon, Berbs, Defoe

Hudd should have a good game because Getafe wopnt press him as quickly as in the prem.

You sure? Seems a bit silly we only registered 2 goalies.... then again thats pretty much par for the course at the moment.

Harry, mate, you're allowed seven subs for Eufa games, I believe - so you can add a couple more.
BTW, ain't Boateng injured?

Anyway, anyone in need of a bit of cheer should check out Phil Cornwell's podcast at
http://www.podanza.com/podcast/the-spurs-show/ed3891ff69289bd6d514bed8f0c20333/

- especially the episode with Paul Whitehouse guesting. Arsene Wenger as the "love-child of Lester Piggot & Kenneth Williams"?!

alnwick's out on loan mate, Forecast is the reserve keeper

Drop Jenas, start Lennon. I would love to see this team however unlikely it is to see it.

Cerny

Chimbonda Kaboul Dawson LYP

Lennon Huddlestone Steed

Boateng (Attacking Mid)

Defoe Berbatov

Subs: Alnwick (is he eligible?) Gardner Taraabt Keane Zokora Jenas Bent

Tempted to drop Dawson after late, but decided against it. Even if Robbo was it I'd be starting Cerny.

Getafe have already said they see the Uefa cup as a distraction and are more concerned about they're match with Santander.

At Luton Town, Alnwick is. Just FYI.

Beware the Gooner in the grass: Getafe's Danish coach Laudrup has his trusty sidekick John "Faxe" Jensen with him at all times. This former Gooner is most famous for scoring when Denmark won the European Championship in '92 (and hardly ever scoring for Arsenal). Let's hope it doesn't mean we're in for a boring game.

Anonymous said...

would you please explain those references to Napoleon. what do you mean?

RobbyK said...

Cerny

Staltieri/Kaboul/Dawson/Ekotto

Boateng/Zakora/Malbranque

Lennon

Bent/Berbatov

score: 3-1 spurs, but Getafe are a very flarey outfit, second only to Barca in the flare stakes, so would struggle against a steely, organised, English team...they should do alright against us then.

Anonymous said...

Hey Hazza, its UEFA Cup, so you can have more subs. Who would your other two be?

Bent and Lee perhaps?

And also, has Alnwick been recalled from loan then?

I don't think I have ever been looking forward to a game less.

My attitude is very curmudgeonly today.

Can't shake the funk. Don't think the manager has belief anymore, doesn't look like the players do. Seems like we are going into games aimlessly and waiting for the inevitable. I think the inevitable needs to happen or else the rest of the season will go in the same vain. Agree? Think I'm a depressing wanker?

Harry Hotspur said...

I didn't inc anymore subs as I honestly don't think there's going to be a 4-0 killing and kids coming on for the last 15.

Keeper Ben is recalled as of only a day or two ago.

Forecast is not registered and I only presumed that Alnwick is!

Napoleon comes from Dad's Army, a dig at Jol for being a tinpot general...

I think we can win and will win, but our form is abysmal!

Anonymous said...

Joking aside.. If Kasper Schmeichel's about lets have him!!

Anonymous said...

Napoleon was a tinpot general??!! right!
spurs are getting better and better with fans like these...

Anonymous said...

Alexander the Great was shit too.

Havent you seen Bill and Ted?

Anonymous said...

Genghis Khan? Rubbish

Its no wonder Spurs are shit when the fans keep waving their 'Hannibal was a twat' banners.

Harry Hotspur said...

1.11,

Why is life so hard for the man who cannot separate 'what he wishes to see' from that which is actually before him?

'Napoleon' was used by me in an ironic way as it was in the BBC series Dad's Army.

The ARP chap's catchphrase was 'I might've known it was one of your lot, Napoleon!'

Jol so far this season has performed like a tinpot general. So back in your box sunbeam....

The quality of spurs fans on this page doesn't require grading by pompous clowns like you.

When it does, I'll be sure to to take an ad down and put a sign up.

Then you'll know I'm serious!

Harry Hotspur said...

Of course Patton was good...

' We're gonna bomb them back to the stoneage ' is a memorable quote.

And of course, Hitler.

Now there was a painter...

Anonymous said...

Hitler wasn't a general

Harry Hotspur said...

I was only refering to him in the context of his painting abilities.

Apologies for the confusion.

Anonymous said...

Did it take you 27 minutes on Google to figure that out?

Anonymous said...

Score Predictions HH?
I say 3-1 or 4-1.
I'll have to see the team to decide which.

Hands up who has submitted a team/score prediction without actually having a clue who this lot are?

Didnt they beat Barca 4-0?

Unknown said...

are we not so rubbish that europe now believes spurs to be a group of chav's brought together for no reason.

Unknown said...

We miss the old heads Naybet, Davids, Freddie

Unknown said...

Adel and KPB should start in place of the rubbish Jenas and the miss firing Steed. Zakora is also playing like a second rate championship player but I cannot think of anyone to replace the lad. Now Im thinking Ghaly which really does reveal the depth of our despair. I have found memories of him tearing chelsea apart while I was feeling like death after a big week in Salzburg. Surely the guy has something to prove as he is on the brink of being packed off to Cairo Athletic FC.

Unknown said...

Afternoon HH, whats your prediction for tonight. I have got Paddy Power up and don't have a clue where to go. Im thinking half time Getafe full time Spurs at 35-1.

Anonymous said...

I fancy Spurs to win 2-1 tonight.
Malbranque and Keane.

Getafe won the Spanish Cup last year to get into the UEFA Cup. Mind you, they've only won one league game this year and sit in the relegation zone.

Wait a minute, that sounds familiar...

GRAZZA said...

Hello Park Lane,

Why are you not in the squad tonight amidst our goalkeeping crisis? i assume its only an administrative glitch which has kept you out? i cant believe you have been rested on current form? ;)

I assume they play the proper way if Schuster was their manager (fact lifted off the net earlier!) and Laudrup is the current boss?

The point i was trying to make was that people are ringing the changes, putting youth team players in there squads for what is, lets face it, a bloody important game for us tonight!! theres a faint whiff of complacency through ignorance in the air.........

GRAZZA said...

sorry meant "their squads" - been a long day.

Anonymous said...

Well I would have been in the team except my skills were too good. In training, I made Taarabt cry because I kept outskilling (?) him in true Fifa Street style. Also, the FA said to include me in the squad is like cheating because the other team would so disadvantaged, it would ruin the game as a competitive sporting fixture. The same law is due to be applied to Lionel Messi soon.

Anyway, Laudrup has bought quite a few players in and they haven't gelled yet. A fact I lifted off the net in a similar fashion quite recently. I feel that a bit of class will separate us and them tonight. Also feel Berbatov will be influential.

Harry Hotspur said...

I'm away from the old viao so no price, but I'd put a nicker on a 2-2 draw.

Heart says 2-1.

Berbatov and Defoe.

:)

GRAZZA said...

Im going for 12-0 Spurs, a goal for each member of Harrys squad, inc Cerny from the spot.

Harry Hotspur said...

Maybe George has it right?

Citizen Ghaly?

We need a bloody win chaps...

Anonymous said...

It's OK Hazza, we'll get our points today. Hopefully.

I guess I'd rather have Ghaly contributing in some way whilst other central midfielders (not naming name's, Jermaine) are helping out the opposition. He does have good vision, skill and passing ability, but I can't forget what he did to the shirt. I know he's apologised, but it's probably best he does it again before he gets a chance to play.

And anyway, where is he? He's not in any of those training pics, so I imagine he's training with the reserves. Anyone know if he's playing with them? While he's picking up his cheque each week for doing nothing, he could be redeeming himself and showing a few others up in the first team. He'd get booed, but he brought it on himself. Perhaps he will get a chance to show he's sorry.

PLS well said.

ahhhhh. is anyone listening/watching this? this is awful, what is kaboul playing at?!?!

Anonymous said...

jol is gone.
confirmed by the times

Anonymous said...

Yeah I'm watching it. Our defending is utterly woeful. If Getafe get their act together in the second half we're in trouble. Kaboul and Chimbonda are shocking. Huddlestone smacks of a player who hasn't kicked a ball in anger for a while, although he is at least trying to release our forwards. Big Tony Gardner has turned on his ankle and left the pitch on a stretcher. Dawson came on - hopefully he won't have a game like he against the barcodes.

My thoughts are already drifting to Blackburn on Sunday. If we defend like this against them, Tugay, Pederson, Bently, Santa Cruz and McCarthy will rip us apart and totally embarrass us.
