Tottenham Hotspur vs Everton: Well Beaten Without Excuse

I've had enough.

Two dreadful performances in....

What is HH? In the employ of 'The State'? No, so hear my pain.

I love Spurs. I'm not adverse to losing... but this is rubbish given the talent and huge financial resources.... we clearly have a huge problem at WHL.

Sunderland were ordinary... and now Everton. They were at best passable. Moyles has spoken like a gent this evening. He knows he met a tactical oaf.

Jol says 'It was a disaster'. He knows, he scripted most of it.

1-3 Indoors.

I predict a riot.

Be fair harry ol boy. It's been money well spent again, and again and again and they say the gooners overplay. That said even the crosses were played blind. Back to the drawing board.

So much made of the front 4. 2 games in and Tony G has the only goal? What the hell?

What's Kaboul's crock? Can't believe our misfortune at the back. Davis must come for certain now.

Keane on the right, Steed on the left was a poor choice.

Time to give the young hungry players like T-bat, Hud and Routledge a go.

we can all see the problems - why cant jol? back to basics.
dont wanna say it, but if we lose saturday, jols gone ?
not kneejerk, but that was simply not good enough.
what a load of shit

What do you expect from a manager who thinks the players refusing to accept responsibility and blaming each other is a good thing?

Anonymous said...

i just watched the game from florida...i'm lost for words. i thought saturday vs the mackems was poor!! Jol never learns. No battle, no width. JOL IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH

look at the bright side. No end of season nail biters for spurs this season. On this showing, Jol will be out by December.

No excuses but...fourth and fifth choice defenders playing for most of the game.

Where was Taraabt?

Theres one big difference between us and the two sides that beat us with ease. They gave a shit.. We have not looked like we care at all, not going in hard, players like Jenas are just standing around and jogging like they just dont care. There is no urgency, there is no heart. Without that, you cannot win in the English Game

Hard to even take the time to type this...

I am disgusted.

The team selection was again, horrid. Gardner scored, but he allowed them to break us with the opening goal. The man is 6'9" and he can't defend in the air.

I just feel like the tactics in this game again showed how BADLY we need a person who holds a clipboard to KNOW HOW TO PLAY TACTICS.

4-3-3

I was excited to see atleast an attempt at change until I saw our friends Garner and Stalteri coming out of the tunnel.

Stalteri was the one who's foul set up the first goal and Gardner was the one who gave the goal to Everton.

I am sick to my stomach.

Booo.

Hisssss.

Let hope we can beat the tough boys at Derby. I hope we are up for it.

Good luck recruiting any talent to the Lane after those performances.

Please fire Hughton.

I think it was a disaster, but everton were more than passable. We're crying out for someone like Arteta in our midfield. Jol looks like he's lost the plot, I love the big fella, but his changes to the side didn't worry everton at all. WHERE WAS TAARABT? We miss Lennon so much. Derby a must win, but I can't see it happening unless they play really poorly.

Anonymous said...

I was absolutely appalled tonight. wheres the width gone? its shocking when our most creative player is our right back. im not complaining at seeing the best crosses coming from chimbo but we need people, especially average jenas, to create more. wheres taarabt? saw him twice preseason and at west ham last year and we need a spark and he has it.

Anonymous said...

Harry its your fault we lost 1-3

Anonymous said...

Absolute disgrace. What the **** has gone wrong? The answer is simple Jenas and Zokora are a SOFT CENTRE period. No bite or ability to stamp their authority on a game. The defence will improve when our THREE leftbacks are fit and Dawson returns. The strikers have all the ability in the world. The middle of the park is all wrong. After buying 43 midfielders in the past 3 years how did we get into this situation!?!

Anonymous said...

I think 'serious problem' is a bit strong. Sure we have played badly in both games, but our boys new and old have the quality to come good. Surely a bad start and an awesome end to the season is what all Spurs fans should still expect. COYS!

The sad thing is that the two worst players on the pitch were our regular starting central midfielders. Even sadder, is when your best passer is a defensive-minded right back.

I'm getting sick & tired of the commentators complaining about the lack of creativity, while 2 of our 3 most creative players are left on the bench.

Anonymous said...

jol pandered to bent and played him knowing he should never have bought him with such glaring inadequacies in midfield. 4-3-3 was a disaster from the 1st minute yet he persisted. Keane was rendered ineffectual as was the entire front line. We cannot lose to ordinary piffle like everton so convincingly and expect to have made strides. We have regressed.

Rubbish, plain and simple.

We have the raw talent, we just need a manager capable of moulding it appropriately. and on the first two games, it is not Mr Jol.

Anonymous said...

jenas, gardener, stalteri, and chimbonda were fucking shit!!! none of them should play against derby, i'd rather play the youth team boys!!

Anonymous said...

jol good for a laugh! I quote "midfield lacked creativity" Fuck me he's a fucking genius! he must wonder who bought this shite lightweight excuse of a midfield for a grand sum of nearly 20 million? games up - william hills 9-1 in sack race - looks good value on that showing

Anonymous said...

It's not as if I see Jol as blameless, but come on that's the easy way to justify it. Laying blame at the manager. I think it's pretty obvious the players are scared of the pressure. There's no leader in there who can hold us together and win the ball, drive us forward etc...
Everyone will have a go at Gardner, Stalteri and Jenas. Personally I think Zokora is a waste of space, and is my least liked player at the club. I think of him as a clown for some reason. Makes himself look busy, but it's all just one big joke if you think he's actually able to do anything. Still I'm not going to get too worked up just yet, it took until January last season when we were bottom half, and only 3pts ahead of Sheff U to start moaning, and they were relegated and we finished 5th, so theres no point writing off the season just yet. Amazing actually how many people seem to think the whole season has been played in two games. I blame the media.

If memory serves, defending crosses was an achiles heel last season. It don't seem no betta.

Anonymous said...

Three left backs, Three centre backs, all injured. Tell me who wouldnt struggle, the most painful thing is Arteta is exactly what we need, malbranque turns alot but has no pace, he didnt get past hibbert once, jenas has pace but doesnt know how to use it, we need someone with a bit of magic in midfield, might as well stick keano in the centre and Jenas on the right

Anonymous said...

What excuses do yu reckon we will hear?
Desperate stuff when you are 3-1 at half time with 45 minutes at home to turn it around and the best strike force in the country........

Anonymous said...

Well Harry wot about Jenas now still say he's not that bad!Yes we have a problem and it's in midfield good old Andy Gray said so at half time.Dimi does not look happy and that spells trouble.Calm heads it's a long season so lets start again at home to derby get three points and build from there but please mj give taarabt a chance we need pace and quality in midfield.

Wilko : First time comment -

We all saw the back 4 on Saturday and Staltieri was shocking - so why pick him tonite ?

As for the rest - Gardener I wouldn't pick for my son's team and despite scoring tonite has still not impressed.

Why oh why did we not have Adel T. at least on the bench ? and please explain where the Prince was - for all the money in the world - Routledge do me a favour !!!

I luv the Spurs - but I am left wondering if BMJ is scared to pick the up and coming, and feels he has to pick the 'big names' - all I want is some commom sense applied - something we all apparently can see.

Here's hoping we can beat Derby (???) at the weekend.

Another crap performance. No change there then!!
Its about time JJ was canned and I see Zok is back to his diving ways again. He should be canned too. F**ing midfield! What midfield?

I cant be doing with this Footy bollocks anymore.
The worst part about losing is I gotta work 2moro and listen to the same shit again as I heard Monday.

i just watch the tottenham match wath a load of bollacks. jol wont try one esle steed tonight was rubish y not try adel on the left or boatang also ther middle has no one who crevite a chance we need and good midfielder and a good defener cause we anit got on they are all injuryed

ps
sorry about spelling

King is King said...

Again, we are clearly showing that although we have the best strikeforce in the prem - Our midfield must rank in the bottom 6 - compare Jenas's delivery to Arteta tonight...
I still think that 16.5m should have been spent on at least 2 midfielders. Our 3 strikers last 3 year got over 60 goals between them. As much as Bent is a good player, we didn't need strengthening here.

Lets hope Boateng is a revelation a la Berbs, or we may have a very mediocre season with a new manager along the way (Which I really do not want)

Anonymous said...

well, what a load of rubbish, Spurs continue to look totally inept in all departments as once more our pre-season form has flattered to deceive. no cohesion in the team, no leaders on the pitch, no spine, no drive, utterly useless. i say drop a lot of the weight, even ghastly and murphy would have given us more heart in midfield than we're currenbtly showing. failure to beat derby and the murmurings of discontent will grow to an overwhelming din... not good enough, like we have stepped back 8 years, only minus ginola

Anonymous said...

jol has no idea about tactics. and y ol y do we pick jenas??? n especially y does he take our freekicks he is useless!!!!! we definetly need a new manager jol is useless

just read article with jol in mirror which sums up whats wrong at spurs. asked whether he thought fans were realistic in expecting him and team to be challenging for top 4 place. his reply was that would be unrealistic. Definately time to go - anyone with such a negative attitude will never be successful.

Give jose moanriniho the spurs team and with two signings he would challange for title.

Anonymous said...

i'll say this, i'm glad i wasn't a the lane for that match. i missed the first goal trudging through the rain and caught the last of the first half, which in my mind wasn't altogether bad when you consider it was basically the same team as against sunderland.

even jenas put in a mildly good performance. the midfield generally did what was needed of them and used the wings, didn't continually play across the middle and pushed forward. howard had an excellent game, we should have done better 2nd half and shouldn't have conceded the free kick.

tough tits for us, i'm still willing to wait it out till at least october till i start tearing what little hair i have left out of my head.

Anonymous said...

We will never break into the top four as long as we have such a mediocre midfield. They create few chances, give the ball away in dangerous positions, leave the defence exposed time and time again, and worst of all, collapse under the slightest physical pressure! None of our midfielders (bar maybe Lennon) would get anywhere near a top four squad, let alone starting eleven. This lad Boateng better be bloody good!

I've been reading the comments on this site for a year now and have laughed at many of the doubters out there saying "Jol out" after a bad result or two... the problem is I am starting to agree with them.

Man management seemed to be Jol's strength and for last 2 seasons he had players playing FOR him... something that we were lacking, in my opinion, since Venables was at the helm. Last seasons end saw Jenas, Zokora (still can't understand how most STILL can't spell the guys name... it's on the back of his shirt...)and even Berbatov CHASING the game. Pressuring midfield to win the ball back and set up attack... unfortunately that has not been there so far this season.

Yes we have injury woes (now 3 centre backs and 3 left backs out PLUS Lennon) but where was Taraabt and Boateng? Two wide players that we obviously needed as our central midfield "partnership" was all over the place? Routledge on the bench and Keano starting right midfield? If Wayne isn't good enough to start ahead of Keano out of position then why is he in the squad?

I don't think that I'm alone in thinking that tactics might not be BMJ's forte, but seriously guys we are trying to break into the top four here... Ferguson, Jose, Rafa and the Wanger must be smiling tonight.

My humble opinion....
1) Robinson has to learn to claim a cross/free kick or give Ainswick a go.
2) No more messing around and sign a left footed midfielder of quality enough to deliver a ball into our 40 mil strike force that will stop them sulking
3) Let weightwatchers near big Tom Huddlestone so he can reach the heights we think he can and...
4) Somebody kneecap Anthony Gardener... such a liability (plus if you check the replay he had his eyes shut for his goal...)
5) Finally somebody tell me how to get into a team talk and shout WAKE UP AND WORK!!!!!!!!

Rant over... seriously Spurs we need one hell of a performance against Derby!!!!!!!

stoadi-spurs said...

Sorry but that was woeful. Where is our midfield. Jenas - by name never by nature, why do 50000 fans see him play one way and our manager sees something else? Poor Keano running around with nothing to do. We were so poor, can we please get someone with some bite - there was NOTHING, ZILCH, ZERO, NADA! Sort it, sort it now

I have been an avid reader of this site for a long time. But never have I felt as compelled to comment on a performance as I have tonight. Please can other fans tell me if Im right or wrong. Robbo is going downhill. Confidence? Stalteri is not up to the Premier league. Rocha is too slow, Chimbonda is a good player in a team thats in front. Malbranque is neither a winger or a midfielder, Zokora is a headless chicken, Jenas is just plain shite. Keane is not a midfielder, Routledge is pants, and Jol is in big danger of being shown up as tactically inept. I am a supporter for more than 35 years, and I am distraught at the start to the season. I think we have the players, but the manager has to have the bollocks to pick them. Why did we pay 14 odd million for Boateng and Taarabt, and not even put them in the squad? Where is Huddlestone when you need him? I frigging give up.

Anonymous said...

absoloute load of rubbish. robbo is a fat sh@t!!!!!!!! chimbo duznt stop complaining, gardner cant do nufin, even the goal was a fluke, kaboul/rocha not bad, stalteri aint gotta clue!!!! steed runs around like a headless chicken!!! zokora works hard and does his best but his no ESSIEN!!!!!!! Jenas, wer do i start with this muppet of a player, cant tackle, cant pass cant do anything. keane/berba/bent feel very sorry 4 them @ d moment but berba duznt look very intrested. nex game midfield has to be taarabt, huddlestone, boateng, zokora.sorry to say this but we cud b the new west ham dis season the way were playing. to compound our misery we prob wont have kaboul 4 a month so i look 4ward to the brilliant defensive pairing of rocha/gardner. GREAT!!!!!!!! sorry yids but rant over now!!!!!!!!!!

Is it really Jol that has inspired us to two top 5 finishes in the last two years or a combination of Levy, Comolli and Jol. We have peaked under Jol (love him to bits) but we need to move on now. We need a winning coach in the Benitez mould to go further now. And to realise that Gardener should be playing for West Brom and Davies should be pulling on the lilywhite,..

Anonymous said...

We have now played 2, drawn o, lost 2 scored one (a gardner header) and let in 4. - 3 goal difference. Zero points. Totally unacceptable!!!!

William Hill have slashed the odds on Martin Jol being the first Premier League manager being sacked from 16/1 to 9/1.

If we do not beat Derby at White Hart Lane on Saturday, the Spurs Board should consider sacking Jol.

The Spurs Board should also review the pre-season policy of playing teams in far away places i.e South Africa. Kaiser Chiefs and Orlando Pirates wanted to beat us, but has cost us injuries.

All we need are run out fitness games, not tough ones to risk our players getting injured!!!

Spurs shambles tonight

We looked weaker, slower and less fit than Everton -p what the hell has being going on at our club?

Robinson - should be dropped for not making enough saves!!!

Chimbonda - alright.

Stalteri - a right back in the left back position and it showed!!! (Routledge, 67 - better but still not good enough).

Kaboul - injured running upfield!!!He should have stayed at the back (Rocha, 18 - played quite well but we were already 3-1 down).

Gardner - not good enough.

Malbranque - a right footed winger playing on the left and not good enough at this level.

Jenas - made some great long range passes, but unfit (in that he could not run at pace for any real periods of play - and booked). He should not have played.

Zokora - still needs to convince me that he can be effective without the ball i.e break up play.

Keane - played out of position on the right of midfield, ok but he's no proper sub for Lennon.

Berbatov - unlucky with header that hit the cross bar, but no real service, and Everton were solid at the back.

Bent - £16M waste of money and not the real deal? (Defoe, 62 - unlucky to hit the post, and more of a threat).

Subs not used: Cerny, Huddlestone.

Too many players under pa, or not good enough.

miserable game today. Im just glad I didnt go to the game. Reading all the messages, the midfield is clearly the problem area. And yeah, did anyone else think Berba looked uninterested?

Youth boys please. lets have routledge, taarabt, hudd, boateng and id like to see defoe start.

Come on boys, pick yourselves up and lets get back on track. not gonna be easy, but you have to start somewhere.

Let's be specific:
1: If Jol had real balls he would go tonight.
2. If Levy had any balls he would sack Jol tonight.
3. if Berba any any balls he would go to Arsenal tonight.

Told you before:
Jol should have been gone and they kept him. He's like some kind of contract with Kharma. Can we or can't we get rid of this curse?

The other problem is Berba. Last season he carried Spurs on his back. the thrill is gone, because it's his second season and the shit is the same, because there is Bent and it shouldn't be like that, and because his heart and passion are long gone. Today he looked old and so tired as if he was sixty or something Desinterested is not the word. He's got nothing to be interested there alright and his mind is somewhere else.

So, Berba and Jol. Those are the problems. A new coach and Berba to Arsenal will make us stay in the top 7. Otherwise, well, I predict injuries after injuries, riots after riots and shame after shame.

Oh great. Another poor performance, another injury, another bad tactical game for Jol.

I made the comment I would back Jol to be Next Manager out if we didn't get a result against Everton in another thread after Saturday... in some way I feel disappointment as I said to my mate this morning this 25-1 available was very big and I should probably get on before tonight(thinking we could struggle again without Dawson, and Jol would probably persist in the Jenas - Zokora tandem, not play Taarabt, not play Routledge etc.) But as a Spurs fan and optimist I left it alone, still clinging to the perception of the last couple of seasons that BMJ really still is our team's Godfather. Perhaps he still is, but if I was looking for a free lunch what a mistake... you can now lay BMJ at 4-1 to go on Betfair.

Of course it was much worse than just that, losing another defender in Kaboul, Gardner is not good enough even if he did score...

When Ghaly spoke along the lines of "Running? We didn't do that at Spurs" do you think he was on to something? If you aren't properly conditioned you pick up injuries? Makes sense...

Daives will probably cost us an extra 2mill too, given our desperate need for defenders. We'll also probably not get anyone else decent this transfer window given our start in the league. Too much fcuking about, still no left mid. And seriously Harry, Jenas is not a scapegoat. He's a goat.

Memoirs fro 0 Martin Jol who could be sacked in three games time i.e. Derby (H), Man Utd (A), Fulham (A). So far 0 out 6 points.

Tottenham boss Martin Jol:
"We have 10 defenders at the club and we've used all them that have been fit.

"We are still waiting for one or two players to come back and we will do better when they come back.

"You could throw in the towel after three goals but the players came out and worked hard, that was the positive thing."

Unacceptable, and bad management.

Anonymous said...

HH - you've been very quiet tonight. Curious as to your thoughts about what's going wrong?

The stupid comments on Berbs are driving me nuts. He worked harder tonight than I have seen since he joined the team. He played the target man role the entire match, as Robbo was the only one who could kick a ball near him. He came to midfield to get the ball, he ran into space (and watched passes fall woefully short), fought for crosses (which were all crap), and marked Yobo on defense - what else do you want from your best player when your midfield is shite?

Also, Huds is fit enough to be the maestro for the England U21 team. He will be the replacement for Lampard when he retires - the problem is that he is not fast enough to play the holding role where Jol plays him.

Right, I went to the game tonight, here are a few thoughts;

We had absolutely no width whatsoever. Malbranque is not a winger, neither is Keano. Routledge came on and we looked much better but by then it was too late.

I'm sorry people, but bar Everton's opening goal, Gardener was our best defender. Yes, yes he was. But only because Younes went off early (that guy is quality). The fact we had Zokora at left back for the last 20 tells you all you need to know about our defensive crisis.

Those of you shouting for Robbo to be dropped should consider that if it wasn't for a string of fine saves tonight we would have gone down by 4 or 5. You should also consider trying not to be a complete retard.

We desperately need Lennon back and we desperately need a left winger. Jenas was TERRIBLE tonight. I mean AWFUL. But he wasn't helped by a lack of space in the centre, and no one to pass to. Get us wingers, and that problem will go.

God it was frustrating tonight. And I live with a fucking blue-nose too...

Anonymous said...

PS Less of the 'Jol out' nonsense too. May I remind you that not so long ago a manager led his team to 4th place in his first full season in charge. The next season they very nearly got relegated, but they stuck with him.

That team just beat us 3-1 and made us look ordinary.

We need stability now more than ever. Remember, even Man U's fans called for Fergie's head in the early years...

Anonymous said...

Whilst i am not impressed with the start of the season (Kaboul aside) it's funny how so many of you are already calling for Jol's head?!!

Fickle?!

Were 2 games in FFS, and last season we lost 4 our of our first 6 so take a valium and clam your nerves you bunch of clowns

And to those of you that will be going to the Derby game (prob not many of you on here to be honest) GET BEHIND THE TEAM because come the end of the season i guarantee you'll all be sucking Jol's cock, saying how great he is (if he manages to last the month that is!)
