Tottenham's Chimbonda To Chelsea?

Rudeboy!

"I think Pascal is number two on Chelsea's list behind Sevilla's Daniel Alves," Chimbonda's agent Roger Boli told setanta.com.

"I know that Jose Mourinho likes him a lot. He prefers serious defenders rather than defender attackers. We will see what will happen in the next days."

Clearly it is no agent's interest for a player to stay at any club for more than half an hour ~ but it doesn't sound good.

Is Pascal going to issue a statement ala Defoe and tell us he's staying?

Selling him would be a howler. Even for double what we paid, but if he don't wanna wear the shirt.....

As much as he has had a blinding season given the money being talked about and his age it would be a shrewd bit of business, especially if we can use it to further strengthen the squad. Don't worry Harry, BMJ knows best

Anonymous said...

We need to keep him. I think he is solid.

Great site btw Harry,

On a side note anyone have a decent website where I can come back to the UK for a week and catch a couple of Spurs games?

I predict 3rd this year...

Come on you Spurs!!

Anonymous said...

If he doesnt want to wear the shirt ill personally pack his bags for him, give him a kick up the arse, and tell him to F.O.
Luckily i think he does!

For a 28 year old £12million would be a good return. I'd much rather see SWP's attached to a deal +£4million. The worst thing we could do is swap him for Glen Johnson, not because he's a bad player. I just don't like the idea of bad fish mixing with our young Zidanes.

Anonymous said...

if he wants to leave then let him, we can get some one better for that money.

Anonymous said...

Although I don't want Chimbo to go it wouldn't be the end of the world.

Luke Young is available for £5/6 mil, Ifil coming through will make the grade I think

Anonymous said...

Sell only if we get SWP as part of the deal. Why would we sell him otherwise? is a great right back who will be difficult to replace, assuming Micah Rihards is out of reach.

Surely the board are not that stupid if Chelsk are refusing to sell SWP to us, but can sense a swap saga in the style of Ashley Cole and Gallas here.

Anonymous said...

This agent is trouble. He's fuelling the whole situation for his own personal gain. As for Chimbonda, if he sees Spurs as a stepping-stone to so-called 'better things' then he can leave pronto. Then we'll buy Alves and wipe the smile off Chelski faces particularly when we'll finish above them next season!!

Anonymous said...

It's a toughie alright. We all know that Chimbo is an excellent RB, probably the best in the PL but if we can get Johnson and SWP than isn't that a good deal?

Lennon needs cover - he looked tired/uninterested towards the latter part of last season and maybe he needs competition? SWP and Lennon on the wings is just too mouth watering and would give us that added firepower we need.

So, Chimbo, it's over to you...

Unknown said...

Agree with you Harry, no point in keeping someone who doesnt want to play for the club 100%. Watched Ifil against Dartford the other night he would do okay in the first team, very strong.

Anonymous said...

If Chimbo wants to go then i think we should squeeze every penny from the Chavs, say 14m...

.. but only if we then spent that and a little more on getting Micah Richards to The Lane, pulling out all the stops.

And also on the consdition they do business with us for SWP (8-10m)

Otherwise they can go jump off a bridge head first, blindfolded.

Anonymous said...

If we ended up with Glen Johnson and SWP with a massive discount it might not be too bad. Although I don't think Chimbonda's played his best football for us and I think he could be a big player this season.

Still if he's been blinded by the glare of playing for moneybags fc, better get shot.

Anonymous said...

'He prefers serious defenders rather than defender attackers.'
Would any of you class Alves or Chimbonda as anything other than attacking defenders?
I'd be disappointed to lose him but I'd imagine Levy would play hard-ball as he did with Carrick last season. SWP would be good but not sure of Glen Johnson's Premiership class.

Anonymous said...

Micah Richards all the way

Glen Johnson can sod off

Anonymous said...

thats also my tke - sell him for 14 mil - then lodge a 16.5 million quid bid for alves who is agruably the best right back in the world and the boy has a shot on him. That would mean our net investmnet into alves would be 10.5million pound as we paid close to 6 for chimbo. nice bit of bus - but questionable as to whether or not DA would join us top play UEFA!

Anonymous said...

I am personally fine with the deal if it is a swap for SWP and Glen Johnson. Too late to trawl for a RB and i dont want Stalteri back there....please dear god anything but that....

Anonymous said...

I'm quite relaxed about this deal. If they offer SWP & Johnson for Chimbo - then its common sense to do the deal. He is, only a fullback!?! If they offer straight cash, then no? - where the hell will we find a replacement? (with the ca$h burning a hole in our pocket any replacement bought quickly will end up being inferior - and probably more expensive.)

Anonymous said...

I know Pascal isn't exactly famous for his loyalty (Just ask Paul Jewell)but I have to hope he sees Spurs in a different light to Wigan!

He saw what we achieved last year and are capable this year with his input. His best friend Didier Zokora is staying as well.

And we know the Tottenham board have learned their lesson from Carrick situation (Berba is prime example of keeping talent) so overall I think we have to try our best to keep him. BMJ should take a harder line and say - he's under contract so he's going nowhere.

Awesome player though...

What about Zambrotta? Didn't feature regularly at Barca last year...

Anonymous said...

How can Jose Moaninho be interested in PC if he likes serious defenders?

Anonymous said...

Personally I wouldn't sell anyone to chelscum.
How may of thier players have we tried but failed to sign recently(after poyet of course).

Anonymous said...

If Mr Kenyon is blocking SWP to sign for us then we should tell him where to go and where to stick Glen Johnson as well.

Just dont sell your good players to your rivals .

Exactly what Chelsea have done with Duff.

We can do without SWP but they cant do without a proper full back and it is their weakest position.

Do what Arsenal does tell your player that he isnt for sale and tell Chelsea the same thing.

Stand up and be counted ..deserve the respect..

Anonymous said...

Chimbonda is a very solid right back. Not overly skilful, as shown when playing left back against Sevilla and by no means the quickest in the Premiership either but he did do a great job for us last season.

However I thought we over paid a season ago at £5 million so we would have to consider £12 million too good to turn down. We would want the cash though. If Johnson is that good why are Chelsea looking for a right back?

As for the thought of us paying £12 million for cover for Lennon (SWP) - get real. we will do a Leeds if we carry on at that rate.

Summerspur said...

Whatever happens, we will get a far better deal than widnes or wigan, whatever they call themselves.

ORIENT tickets are sold out on spurs sit but you can still get them on there site if you don't mind risking sitting with their fan.

Anonymous said...

we've finally got the full backs situation sorted with Chimbonda and (if all is as well as predicted) Gareth Bale. Especially after having suffered in the 05/06 season with Lee and Stalteri being skinned at every oppurtunity. Think it would be a pain to lose Chimbonda, the last thing we need to do is sell, especially a 1st team player who wouldn't be as easy as people think to replace. Lassana Diarra looks okay and didn't give Lennon a sniff during last years matches but Luke Young is not up to our standards. If the comments he made about not minding a move to ars*nal are true then he can go. After all, not the most loyal of players...look at the way he left Wigan? even if it was to come to us.

Anonymous said...

Johnson and Wright-Phillips for a single right-back? I know your stadium looks like it's run by a penniless charity, but we're not doling out freebies, kids.

You Spud muppets.

Anonymous said...

come on guys - chim didnt play that well at all - at least not consistantly!!

I was really disappointed with his FWD play last year and also with his so called superb big leap and great aerial ability??

he must have left his booster @ wigan!!

he often looked suspect with his positioning and got caught high up the pitch a lot!!

Like I said - he had a few really good games - but ill take consistency every time!!

12M for a 28 yr old - v.good - johnson -NO, makes too many errors!! another gardener.

And phil ifil is awesome - never been disappointed.

Anonymous said...

I think Chelsk will still get Alves. They're not spending as arrogantly as in the past but believe me they'll still spend. They're just being shrewd. That means Chimbonda will stay and we could still buy SWP outright without a SWAPSHOP scenario.

As for the agent and his quotes, you can construe that if the Alves negotiations fall through he'll be more than happy to listen to any offers. That makes me feel rather unsettled....."we'll see what happens in the next few days" INDEED WE WILL (I hope)!!

Anonymous said...

Personally I like Chimbo, but if there is a straight swap for SWP and Johnson then I would find this acceptable, we have something they want they have something we could do with but arent desperate for so the advantage is in our favour and it is for BMJ and DC to utilise this!

Falco's Fat Thighs said...

We're far from desperate for another right sided winger with Lennon, Steed and Taraabt.
Unless chimbo really throws his toys out of his pram we should resist every attempt to get him even if that means missing out on SWP.
If we we able to get him without letting Chimbo go that would be a different matter but can't see Chelsea allowing that to happen

Anonymous said...

I wouldn't want to see chimbonda leave but for decent money plus SWP would be a great deal. Forget about Glen Johnson just won't cut the grade. I would rather see ifil and to sign a new right back not Johnson or luke young. I call to spend the money on M Richards Class player and can right back, centre back and midfield. Think of the height, strength and pace in the back line.

Anonymous said...

we cant sell to chelski even if they do offer SWP we need a left wing not right and we will never get as good a right back as chimbonda. He is the best footballing right back in the PL.
But that said if he doesnt want to play for the shirt out you go.......

....is there no way that agents can be restrained from talking S^%T?!?!

chimbonda should definitly stay, he is one of the best out there.. thats why chelsk want him, we need to hold onto our best players, would they sell there best to us???i dont think we should have any dealings chelskscum, apart from on the pitch. it would be a mistake to let him go especially to one of our rivals..

James Cutmore: I can see this happening. We have been linked heavily with SWP, and Jol likes Diara. If we can swap those two for Chimbonda, then thats got to be a good deal. Not IDEAL, but a good deal. SWP £21m, plus Diara for Chim £6m. Thats a good bit of business. I dont want Chim to leave but i do doubt his loyalty. If we could get Micah Richards then Fuck me, we'd pretty much have 9 England internationals. Robo, King, Dawson, Richards, Lennon, Jenas, SWP, Defoe, Bent, plus the Hud. That is one hell of a good spine for team spirit. I think i need to stop dreaming...

Harry Hotspur said...

I've made no secret of my ongoing contempt for these swapsy stories... they oh so rarely actually transpire beyond the scratchings of the ale sodden hacks who concoct them...

That aside I resemble Natalie Imbruglia ~ I'm torn.

Part of me is recalling Chimbo's surging runs down the wing that inevitably resulted in a cut back ball, the inertia, then the loss of advantage initially gained with the original charge.

Then there's the duff corners and crosses various to him on the far post. They obviously/presumably work in training. He sneaks in and.... just doesn't quite get his head around it..

And then there's his wonderful defending. His understanding of positioning, his tackling, physical presence and his pace are all top notch....

I think it has to be an 'In Jol We Trust' job.

Anonymous said...

Harry, if you resemble Natalia Imbruglia then Tottenham's defence is the very least of your problems.

I'm very surprised to see some of the 'let him go' comments on here. How would swp & glen wotsisface be a good swap for the best right back we've had for many a year? Even when he's not completely on form Chimbonda has the ability to make it very difficult for opposing players. Given chelski's valuation of swp alone, there's no way we'd receive any cash so how would we replace a full back of Chimbonda's quality and at what cost? Who do you think we'll be able to attract for a Uefa cup run? Alves? Yeah right. With johnson at the back I reckon we'd be back to the Stalteri days of old double quick. This deal looks like newspaper talk to me and I don't think anyone at Spurs are that silly. It wasn't that long ago that Chimbonda made an "I'm happy at Spurs and want to play for them" type comment after question-marks over his commitment surfaced. Smacks of another 'Berbatov is about to leave you' wind up.

Hope so. Two steps forward one step back is not what the doctor ordered for the start of the coming season.

3 weeks 2 days and counting.

Go on the Spurs!

James Cutmore: I do agree that its not an ideal situation. Its never going to be good to lose a top class 1st team player at this stage of the window to gain any player. BUT, sometimes these things are not done through choice. I very much doubt that Commoli would want to get rid of Chim, but if he is giving it large [as he did at Wigan] then surely if we can make best of a bad situation by getting a top top player in SWP for the same money that we paid Wigan for Chim, then I will see it as a team improvement as any player that is not 100% can do one. Besides, i see Jol switching Lennon and Swp on the wings, with taraabt and Steed as cover, sounds pretty sweet to me.

Anonymous said...

I think the best way to look at it is who benefits Chelski more Chimbonda or SWP? Who benefits us more Chimbonda or SWP? After all if we are 'chasing the pack' we can't afford to keep selling our players to them so they can strengthen their squads. If we do that we'll never get there!!!

Mr. Smith said...

I do not think this is good business. We need soldarity at the back more than we need SWP. Bringing in new players is all well and good but not all players gel to a team in there first season as well as berba did, and that is only IF we are able to replace the void left at RB with someone worthwhile. Yes, I do think SWP would be a fantastic addition to our squad but not at the expense of the ever exciting chimbo! If he is still in N17 at the end of August I am going to put a 10er on him scoring 2 with his head this year. COYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

I say let him go, bring in SWP & GJ. End of the day we're not gonna catch Chelsea this season, so selling to your rivals becomes irrelevant in this instant. Also, we're gonna be looking for a new right back in a couple of seasons anyhow, and we'll still have SWP & GJ. We need cover for Lennon, end of.

Anonymous said...

Harry,

or not

Keep up the great work though.

Anonymous said...

I say let him go if his heart aint in it. Otherwise keep him and bid what it takes to get SWP. Johnson would be a useful signing, but let's not forget he's another 'potential' good player. We've got enough of them, would rather have proven quality to make the next step up to CL.
This is such a massive season for us coming up!

Anonymous said...

Moaninho says Jol did the right thing not to sell Berba. Of course he did, but Man U did the wrong thing not to buy him. The chances of Chelsea getting the title back are very strong without Berba in MAN U: The guy is a master in mindgames. Sir Alex is done. Again.Tevez is not the right guy for the job. He'll have problems with the two ROS.
And Spurs fighting for the title? Yeah. Winning it? NO!!!!

Anonymous said...

aye, this is indeed a massive season coming up. the way this offseason has looked, sounded and smelled so far, another 5th place finish is totally unacceptable. in my humble opinion, the future of this club, for better or for worse, is inextricably tied to our bulgarian maestro. he has attained a somewhat mythical status, and as long as we have him (given that he keeps up his form of course) we will be able to attract other big names to come to the club. what's more, these new players will be willing to cede their places in the starting lineup in the interest of european success! bottom line? keeping dimitar happy is a must. this means surrounding him with players who allow him to play his best game. how many times towards the end of last season did we see a flat midfield, void of any creativity other than zokora's rampaging runs which, to my recollection, never amounted to anything. i don't want to hear jenas's name floated around in this capacity because we all know, in our heart of hearts, that he'll be sold to bolton or portsmouth in a year or so, after yet another disappointing season. i hope, therefore, that our attention turns to the centre of the midfield first, and then to the wingers. francisco yeste, kim kallstrom, mikel arteta, dare i say... tomas rosicky? anyway, you get the idea.

good luck to us all.

by the way, harry, love to hear your take on jenas.

Anonymous said...

to sell would be similar to carrick. unbalance the squad and encourage other players that spurs are not a serious club worth sticking around for ie. Berbatov the eastern god. we don't need the money and would only make a couple of million profit after replacing him. we cannot attract a player as good as pascal so don't sell. i would be stunned if we don't sign a left winger and also think the prince is exactly what we need

Anonymous said...

The reason Chelsea want him is that he is proven as one of the best right backs in the EPL. If we are serious about getting into the top four we cannot sell our first choice players to the competition. the very idea of doing a "shrewd bit of business" is ludicrous, we will have to replace him and that will cost at least the same as we get for him; we end up working for Chelsea as talent scouts. Fuck his agent, he's only one year into his contract...keep him.

If SWP and Glenn "I dont want to go to Spurs (the last time)" Johnson come in place of Chimps then so what Chimbonda was better than what we had but did he really do that much last year, I think at West Ham GJ played some great football and would relish the cahnce to pay regular football again. Did they mention Cash plus the two Chelskites because that to me is good business and good football.

Sorry to go off point but I had time on my hands and had a look at Athletico Madrid's website. Martin Petrov is in their squad for Sundays Intertoto game. Would that mean he would be ineligible for European football for other teams if he plays? If so his transfer value would fall and as such surely he is going nowhere. Another left winger slips away!

Unknown said...

Chimbo is the best RB in the Premiership and the best we have had in many a year. It would be crazy to let him go without an equivalent or better replacement. We don't need SWP but we do need good full backs. Who would be happy to have Stalteri back as first choice!

Anonymous said...

There is no doubt Chimbonda is a great right back and with him we currently have a potentially complete back four (I say potentially due to Bale (too early to draw judgement)). So the last thing we want to do, at the moment, is sell Chimbonda just for cash as we don't need the money and finding another potential suitor would be an absolute nightmare. There is no chance Man City would sell Micah Richards with the new spending power they have (even if he himslef would like to come (which of course he would)).

The problem, and I've discussed it loads with my mate (fellow spurs boy), is that having some like SWP would also be great - I personally have no doubt in that. It would be a new lease of life to him, a fresh start with plenty of opportunities playing the kind of creative football, with very creative players, that he likes (and not that boring very efficient highly scrutinised football that Chelski play).

Another problem is Chelsea are unlikely to want to sell (to us)for just cash.

So its basically a win-lose situation for us either way - we keep Chimbonda and we don't get SWP or we get SWP and we lose Chimbonda.

Personally I like the idea of getting SWP (and perhaps I didn't state this but I love Chimbonda), as its daring and would just result in an even more fantastic level of football that would just be great to watch.

My mate wanted to keep Chimbonda which is fair play- definitely the the sensible decision.

I just love this club at the moment. Cheers Harry, from Harry x

I feel next season will be crucial in defining Spurs future. If we dont break top four, a few of our crucial spurs stars will leave. He might be old but at the moment we should think one season at a time. It might be shrewd bussiness to sell him, but it will dent Spurs ambition for top 4 if he goes.

Good addition last season and plays with urgency and commitment but can be found out defensively. Great if he wants to stay but if he is lured by the large roubels on offer at the Bridge then so long sucker! Bring on the Staltieri fairy! Second thoughts!
After his alleged serving of transfer request to Paul Jewell at Wigan on last day of the season, I suggest BMJ stays out of his way until the season starts and transfer window closes.

However, the big news at this moment now as i type this here now at this moment in time is that our hero of season 2005/2006 Mido is on his way to Birmingham, I josh thee not.

But i think the main reason
Was not just his attitude, fitness or form
But the brilliance of Dimitar Berbatov.

Harry, I thought your comments were spot on. The oly thing I want to add is that I think Chimbo is the best FB in the EPL at defending set pieces. He never loses his mark and is phenomenal at winning defensive headers to clear penetrating crosses made from the right. He also rarely makes stupid fouls that lead to dangerous free kicks - which is why Johnson will never be a starting FB.

We now have a LB that appears to be terrific moving forward and making the crosses - so Chimbo can hang back and solidify the back line. Don't let him go!!!!

Two options: -

Option 1 - Keep your best players and if you do sell, make sure it isn't a to a rival (example Manure refusing to sell Heinze to Liverpool for that very reason).

Option 2 - Sell your best players to teams challenging where you are aiming to be and become an also-ran mid-table club.

Which one with Daniel "Dell Boy" Levy choose? Answers on a post card.

A true test of ambition has been thrust upon the board - let's see if they really are worth the ticket price hikes they keep imposing on fans.
