Tottenham Hotspur: Who's This Sneijder Chap, Then?

22 years of age.

5' 7".

Dutch.

It has been argued and convincingly so that your average Lolly-pop Lady successfully executing half a dozen keepy uppies with the right effects and thumping rap beats looks good in these You Tube show-reels.

I reckon this lad is genuinely excellent footballer.

And would probably get any number of school children safely over a zebra crossing without breaking a sweat to boot.

Oh yes, and of course, we've been linked with him. This week.

So then, Marlon 'I make Heskey look sharp' Harewood anyone?

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE BUY SNEIJDER MARTIN!!!!!

idiot

Anonymous said...

how do you pronounce his name?!
and yes!

Anonymous said...

OK let's buy'im - next best thing after Nani & a class act compared to some of the other crud that the media think are coming our way.

Anonymous said...

I think we should sign him as our left sided player. OK he's not orthodox but he and Lennon can interchange wings and also centrally behind strikers which would give us a great attacking threat. Very much Spurs type player and still so young. Perfect. Come on Spurs this one makes alot of sense and is definitely a feasible signing regarding fee and competition for him. Do It Now!!!

Anonymous said...

This was speculated about on a blog, then spursweb reported it, and now Harry's got it.

Well done Harry.

You really are a fucking moron.

Anonymous said...

How do you think his name is pronounced? Put it this way the J is silent and there is an invisible H between S & N!

Anonymous said...

Come BMJ get sneijder! and get rid of the dead wood, so younger players can get involved!

Anonymous said...

Anon 6:14 - Shut the fuck up. Harry knows other sites have reported this story and that is WHY he is providing a chance to discuss and video evidence. Not such a bad thing eh, you fucking moron.

Anonymous said...

6.16 You're a fucking moron too.

Anonymous said...

ne 1 no if sneijder to spurs is likely to happen coz it would b a quality signing

Anonymous said...

I must be to point out why this Sneijder blog exists. Anyway do you have anything to actually say?

Anonymous said...

Urgh text talkers.

I think you're supposed to blow yer nose when you say his name. But wot's in a name n who gives a monkey's...just but 'im.

Anonymous said...

Sneijder's agent is in talks with Levy and comolli as we speak. The main sticking points are the fee and that we are not in the CL.
The player greatly respects BMJ though so it could swing the deal. expect an announcement within 48 hours

Anonymous said...

He looks predominantly right footed.

Anonymous said...

Well he's not. Predominantly two footed actually.

Anonymous said...

He's crap.

You know what makes this blog shit, it's not HH, it's not the adverts, it's the childish people that come here to talk crap and throw insults around for no good reason. Just discuss what you know about the player or piss off.

When Villa had Ugo Ehiogu and Ian Taylor, I used to call them Aston Gorilla.

That's racist.

I'm friends with Wes and he is allergic to Tottenham Hotspur.

Unlucky.

Is Wes related to Wesley Snipes?

Does anyone think that ENIC buying Sugar's shares is a precursor to some MASSIVE investment in the club? If say, they increase their share of the club to 66% and then make a couple of big signings almost guaranteeing our path to the Champions League - then they will benefit even more when our share prices rocket...no?

Anonymous said...

SIGN HIM UP JOL HE IS CLASS

Anonymous said...

That sounds like a great plan!

Let's do it!!!!111!!!!

Anonymous said...

Shut up Anonymous.

They need to sort out the buses on Tottenham High Road before they start spending silly money on players.

We should get Alan Smith

We should all get on webcans and strip.

Hi Harry! Just wanted to say yr blog is quality. I never used to read about Spurs online til I moved out to NYC few years back, now I go to a few. This site usually makes me laugh, either the banter or the stories. ALL blogs/sites chase stories to a certain extent, I realy dont know why it effects people so much! ! Nevermind the abuse, keep up the good work mate!!

Welcome mate.

been linked with him alot longer then just a week.
Been saying he would be idea for us for months now. Our own paul scholes. only with a better long range shotting style.

would love to get him in and sell jackass-jenas, putting him in a creative/attackign role behind our front strikers, or rotating with robbie keane.

Dont think he will get given the number 10 shirt though

Vinny said...

Yes! we should absolutely be buying players like Scheijder, he will be that creative midfielder I was talking about. If we're aspiring for the champs league! we should be buying his mate Huntelaar too!

Why are we being linked to Marlon Harewood??? if we wanted a cheaper but decent backup striker solution, surely we should have signed MArk Viduka ahead of the geordies?

I was saying last season we should have gone for Yaya Toure, he was a bargain for Monaco at 3 million, now Barca are about to sign him for much more. Zokora and Toure could have been our version of Essien and Mikel.

Now it's only an if, so if me auntie were me uncle Bulgaria, she'd have b*llocks!...:)

Well I like this blog, don't buy HH's inside knowledge but I love his cynical sense of humour!

AGREED LONDONGUY. SNEIJDER WOULD BE AMAZING, CAN U IMAGINE IF WE SIGN HIM, VAN DER VAART AND KABOUL(IF HES AS GOOD AS EVERYBODY SAYS)? WOULD WE NEED ANYBODY ELSE? SO CLOSE TO TOP 4 GUYS, GOT TO GET THIS MAN SIGNED UP!!

Sneijder is 23 on the 9th of this month and has played for ajax for 5 years after coming through their youth academy. He became captain of the youth team due to his tenacious spirit and despite his 5'7" stature, was described by his club as their 'midfield general' and later nicknamed by journalists the 'pitbull with patients' whatever that means. As can be seen, he's genuinely 2 footed, and a deadball specialist(he'd have to fight over freekicks with Bale). That 2 faced dutchman who ran off to chelski when they waved some cash at him is said to have unsuccessfully made enquiries about him for Spurs two year ago.

But get this; while perusing the wesley sneijder page on wikipedia at 1.05am today(don't ask), the last paragraph stated that sports journalist Nick Minty claims to have spotted sneijder & Daniel Levy at a Hilton foyer, as Levy is trying to quickly close a deal before villa or valencia make their move. The date given for this meeting was the 8th of june!

Answers on a postcard........

I, incidentally, hope this is all true. I reckon he'd be an improvement on Jenas. We'll see.

Go on the Spurs!

mikethfc said...

looks quality, but looks also right footed. maybe he could be AM, and we could also get someone else for LM

I saw two left foot shots neither of which was a tap in. He's very two footed.

El: Frank Arnesen is not Dutch. He's Danish. Everyone seems to think he's Dutch because he used to play in Holland. But he isn't.

As for Wesley Sneijder (pronounced roughly "Schneider"), he's an exciting player. Seems to me the main question is the same one that preceded Tomas Rosicky's arrival at Arse***. Will he just be bullied out of the game in the EPL or, like Rosicky, will his skill (and a bit of pace, it seems) enable him to avoid the cloggers?

And will he be happy playing different positions across midfield?

He does look quality, great shot and does appear to be two footed. My only concern is that in every clip he is drifting inside. Whilst it is reported he can play anywhere across the middle, is he really a solution to our problem left side?!

All in all, he would be a good acquistion, he might not fill the left wing position, who would he squeeze out??

Anonymous said...

Wesley does look good, a different option to what spurs have now. I would still sign a left winger and then maybe, as another option, you could play berbatov as the lone striker with wesley as the man behind, with two flying wingers. Check out these two players who spurs have been linked to recently kedra keita and samir nasri.

Anonymous said...

Hey HH - how come your so called sources have not informed you we are signing him. Strange to see your relying upon the a broadsheet as your 'source' or 'inside information' these days. I thought you said you were the best journalist ? Your a punter like the rest of us really lol

EL said...

re:8.41 anon

Of course he's Danish. My mistaake.

Don't imagine we'd get sneijder for the left wing. I'd say he looks the sort of player we'd want right behind the front two.

Whether he'd be as good without the room he's being given in some of these clips is anyones guess but I like the cut of his jib.

Unknown said...

he looks to me like he could well be put on the left wing. He'd be given the freedom of either being a true winger or maybe coming inside like clips seem to show, while the left would still be covered by Bale who'd easily manage left wing from his left back position (he did this for Soton anyway).

another formation would of course be 3-5-2 or 3-3-2-2 however you perceive it:

Robinson (GK)
Chimbonda (RB)
Dawson (CB)
Bale (LB)
Huddle (CM)
King (DM)
Zokora (CM)
Lennon (RW)
Sneijder (LW)
Keane (FW)
Berbatov (FW)

King would play very defensive mid but it would provide that push up towards the opposite goal that we often lack. In my mind that's a UEFA winning team any day.

Was just looking up Sneijder on Wikipedia and found the following info - On the 8th of June(today), sports journalist, Nick Minty, spotted Sneijder in a Hilton hotel, with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy. It is thought that Spurs are trying to thrash out a deal as quickly as possible to thwart of interest from Aston Villa and Valencia.
