Tottenham Hotspur - Who's This Nani Chap, Then?

Well old Tottenham are pushing the transfer window envelope like a determined postie trying to impress on his first day, eh?

Word is that Daniel Levy and Damien Commoli, overnight bags in hand, are making a credible play for nothing short of a European superstar in the making.

Mind you, after wrangling for months with the bitter little Burley for the signature of a untested minor, the prospect of dealing with grown ups at Sporting will probably come as some light relief.

"I am prepared to go to England because I believe I would progress there." - Wait 'till he gets his fifth over-hit pass of the afternoon from Robbo bounce of him for another throw-in before he starts waxing too lyrical...

Nani says he wants to play in the Premiership. We're a Premiership side, so in my estimation, we're halfway there already. Now how many 'N' s have I got left on that old sheet of Letraset? I can feel a personalised shirt coming on....

On this clip, it runs for nearly a minute before getting going, do bear with it. Also, watch for the penalty just before the 3 minute mark. His body says he's pushing it to his right and the flick he gives the ball to his left is pretty sensational. (Ahem, Defoe.. cough, cough)

A good buy methinks!!

Anonymous said...

Didn't use his left foot once in the video.

Anonymous said...

looks good but didn't see him use his left foot a single time in that whole clip. Seemed to be playing down the centre rather than left side. I've read a lot that he is supposed to be a left winger?

Anonymous said...

What a fab addition he'd be...

Anonymous said...

could he not be Mido's replacement?

Anonymous said...

He can play where he bloody well wants to. Simply stunning.

Anonymous said...

who is he?? --- methinks someone we will not sign, sadly :(

Anonymous said...

I think that what the boy has said in the last 24 hours, "i have not set my mind on any one club" means that we are still very much in the runnings to get him. Just a reminder he previously said he wished to play with his heroe ronaldo, didn't newbie gareth bale say he wanted to play with giggs? well look at him now.

Anonymous said...

Looks and sounds completely overated to me. Looks like a Ronaldo but worse. Like Ronaldo he lokks like he has no control of the ball.

Anonymous said...

Wishful thinking i think, would be amazed if levy can pull this one out the bag! Get 2 players from Utd's wishlist. But i agree i'd like to have seen him use his left foot at least once

Anonymous said...

We were being linked with Kim Kallstrom earlier, has anyone seen him, looks strong and quite quick for a big guy, almost like a certain french big guy we used to have on the wing, and he is left footed!

Anonymous said...

idiot

Anonymous said...

ronaldo cant control the ball? you on aboyt the fat brazilian?

Anonymous said...

as much as i hate cristiano ronaldo because of his exploits as a diver which i must say he is not doing as much, claims that he cannot control the ball are quite ridiculous.

Anonymous said...

WHERE HAVE ALL THE LEFTIES GONE ?
...(JOL)..'sorry lennon, you're on the left again!' Think he'd be great if we entered the gymnastics in china olympics,.. but he does jump off his RIGHT foot.

... another Diego ?

Anonymous said...

You're not well informed, chaps.
1. It's Manchester that has been negotiating with Sporting since January and Nani wants to go to Manchester.
2. The key is Berbatov. Manchester will get Nani if they don't get Berbatov. Otherwise Nani will go to Spurs as Spurs showed a late interest on hhim.
3. Nani is a right winger, actually. He plays perfectly with Ronaldo in the national side, so I don't see why Spurs need him as they have Lennon.
4. And the chap who says Ronaldo cannot control the ball is where? In the looney house? Envy is a very ugly feeling.

Anonymous said...

would be a good buy, he is young and clearly got talent, i agree with the others though that he didn't use his left foot, mind you, ronaldo is right footed and plays down the left sometimes for man Usa. also over the period of at least 1 season there werent that many clips of him doin well, many were shown over and over and over and over again in this montage. he would be a good attribution, could probably play anywhere in the midfield or upfront like C ronaldo, but i think maybe still try for someone like M Petrov for the short term. Apparently we're still interested in downing, now based on his England B performance yes yes yes but based on the majority of his other performances err no no no!

In the softly spoken words of the Virgin Mary... come again?

1. If Nani wants to go to Manchester he can add being every discreet to his CV. Just admit 'you'd like him too', no need to fake being closer to his signature here, we're all very bright guys.

2.If Manchester United don't get Berbatov? Buy a newspaper you chump.

3. We don't need him because we've got Lennon? Are you 11 years old? We need loads of players - we've domestic cups galore to chase not top mention a European Tour Part2 to prepare for..

4. You're right about the anti Ronaldo comment. How Einstein wandered from a Higher Maths blog to this one I don't know...

Anonymous said...

we need a true left winger & a quality playmaker in midfield.

don't like to knock JJ,. BUT..
he spends more time admiring his own passes, than watchin whats goin on around him.

SB

Anonymous said...

agreed SB.

Anonymous said...

I agree with SB, however i do feel that Jenas has the potential to be a great, if he can consistantly perform at the standard he did during his time a newcastle. Also out of interest what has happened to Kaboul? i though he was meant to be signing with spurs yesterday after the end of the French season

Harry Hotspur said...

Turned out to be a load of Kaboullers.

Anonymous said...

yeah, JJ has potential, he needs DRIVE, on his game he looks the part, but i aint very often,.. fingers X'd for him.

p.s .. I'd like to thank the MAN who is putting us in this position,.. Daniel Levy !
wasn't sure bout him, but NICE 1 Danny !

Anonymous said...

JJ does drive me crazy i go to every spurs game and during his time on the injury list it was very noticable that somthing was missing. However when he does play it seems like he hinders the sides perfomance very confusing

also well done Harry, how long has that word play been swimming around your head?

Anonymous said...

hey ppl this is just a thought on the bale signing. even though he plays LB i have this idea he could be played as LW, didnt fergy think that was his best position to? not sure what others think on this but i really do think this will happen & we'll buy shorey from reading

Anonymous said...

no disrespect to the above, but your enlightening comment is probably the view held by most of the spurs faithful. I do think that Shorey might be a good buy however i do have a huge amount of faith in Benoit Assou Ekotto, im sure many will disagree however.

Anonymous said...

no,. right with ya, Ekotto looks solid.

maybe lee is gonna be given a go at left wing ? hehe.

SB

Harry Hotspur said...

Benoit Assou Ekotto is not to be over looked at all.... well said

Anonymous said...

..right, sorted then, ekotto playin left back, bale left wing, jenas with a rocket up his a&$e,

.. and we cud buy Nani & Gerrard as cover !

Brilliant, life is good, Thanks folks.
SB

Anonymous said...

My faith in Ekotto is not only due to his reasonable performances as a defender but also the fact that up until his ill timed injury he had taken Lee's place at left back. I cannot remember the game but i also recall one of his free kicks that hit the upright, better than almost all of Jenas'. Along the subject of freekicks why doesn't Berbatov take them more often?

Anonymous said...

archibaldsteve: Difficult to judge from the clip as it tended to repeat same 4 goals or so. Backward flic flacs will give Keano's tumble a run for the money. Still would like Morten G Pedersen as he is proven left winger and could take set pieces instead of row Z Jenas. Middle of the park is where we need to bolster. Need a ball winner with passing skills and not Parker from NUFC.
I would like to see more of Nani. Quaresma looks good and goes past players easily. Also can't see why we want Bent at £10 mil. Rather chase Huntelaar at Ajax.

Anonymous said...

no thanks. left footer please.

Anonymous said...

QUARESMA FOR LEFT WING !!!!

Anonymous said...

..HEY, but really, Bale is supposed to have a great left foot,
..a left sided beckham ! (imagination running riot)

play him left midfield.. you're a genious martin.

SB

Anonymous said...

SNEIJDER is GOD!! He wees all over Jenas. He wants to go and will be abt 8m,Bargain!!! And he is only 23 and a dutch regular

Anonymous said...

i'd rather we concentrate on the left wing, last seasons transfer window was hard to bear with jol's obsession with central midfielders, though he did get berbatov, we should buy gamst or petrov if we get any non left wingers it should be this guy we're linked with http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRilpPRTQuc

Harry Hotspur said...

Pederson looks pedestrian against this lot...

Anonymous said...

harry:

Buy a newspaper? The Sun maybe? or a Bulgarian one? Because the meeting is on for tomorrow. Oh, yes, it's not over until the fat lady sings , or maybe the Virgin Mary sings.

Nani will only go to Spurs if he cannot go to Man u. He's not stupid.

And Quaresma is right wing too.

Anonymous said...

WOW, Petrov highlights on you tube, THAT IS THE MAN !

SB

Anonymous said...

what meeting ?, i can only buy a scottish sun,..todays headline.. 'LIVINGSTON BUY McDUFFERTY'.. hehe.

..is Berbs goin ?
..Quick, get his mate Petrov in !

archibaldsteve: Thanks for the link 12:28. M. Zidan has an impressive array of dribbling skills and a good acceleration burst. Also has that knack of keeping the ball down when shooting and goes through defenders rather than doing loads of fancy feints without an end product. I had read that we and Fulham were interested but hadn't seen any of his stuff and assumed that he was pants. Glad to be wrong if we could get him.

Summerspur said...

A lot of the players being mentioned here are attacking players which is all well and good but is that an area we truly need to strengthen.
When we get a corner you just know nothing will come of it.
When we concede one it should come with a health warning, the pattern being, ball lobbed nicely into 6 yard box, robbo trying desperately to escape quicksand, dawson leaping majestically heads ball which hits zokora who appears startled in the melee and ponders what his shrink would instruct him to do. he decides on a punt which hits one of lennons wildly flailing arms and back into the danger area. robbo now resembling the wild man of borneo trying to catch butterflies bare handed is wrong footed as ball ricochets of big gormless looking bloke, probably adebeyor, and nestles into net.

my point here is balance our midfield offer nothing at corners, especially height. tiny tim is an all action tenacious little so and steed runs about a lot and er ... well he runs about.
but at corners they are spectators. we need a taller tiny tim, maybe MGP and a 6 foot headless chicken.

Anonymous said...

archibaldsteve: Agree with summerspur. Having said that just looked at more stuff of FC Mainz player Mohamed Zidan and think he is the best young player on the planet. Scored 11 goals in 12 Bundesliga outings. Does everything brilliantly. Iknow we go on about players but he really is something else. Has astonishing burst of speed and goes through crowds of defenders and then puts the ball in the net from all angles with feet or head. Penalty taking is an art with him. Extremely strong, reminds me of early footage of Ronaldo at Barcelona in that defenders at a loss asx to how to stop him and can't hold him back. Amazed that we havn't been hearing too much about him. Like Berbatov he has sublime ball control and I don't say that lightly. Take some time and look on
YouTube as there are loads of clear footage of terrific goals and and eyewatering bursts of pace with skilled and efective dribbling. I may be going on a bit but really have a look. If we paid £15 million for him it would be a steal.

Anonymous said...

Anyone has any idea who are the Prem's player and manager of the year and why is it taking so long to give the awards?

Summerspur said...

good news about keane on official spurs site. quite interesting what it says right at the end re berba. the closest thing we will get to a statement about this.

boilinghotspurs said...

If nani has the potential to be like ronaldo i would like to sign him, not because of his reputation but because of his versatile nature, we cannot keep playing lennon every single game the boy gets tired and more importantly teams now know how to contain him.

Anonymous said...

i was looking at him as soon i heard spurs were supposedly in for him, he plays for Mainz and they're relegated now so he's got to be leaving and we're the biggest club in for him so far, so fingers X'd! he looks insane, he could alternate with lennon or play second striker or even AMF. He's only 22 or something, if spurs get him i'm getting the zidan on my new mandarin shirt :)))

boilinghotspurs said...

Oh my well i do hope that spurs look into zidan i have just seen the boy on youtube and he looks better than nani, but obviously one can only tell after watching him for a full 90 minutes. I just hope that if we get him he won't be another egyptian failure

Anonymous said...

summerspur..

good find! seems Levy is prepared to confirm Berba has a better contract signed recently, and with that said we dont even need that 'proof' of Jol mentioning it.

Nice!

Nani Is One To Look Out For! Ive Seen Him Play For Sporting the past two years and he keeps getting better!
Summer Star Buy!!

Anonymous said...

Nani Plays For Portugal and you can not compare with any egyptian play ever!

Anonymous said...

archibaldsteve: Nani and Quaresma definately have skill but M.Zidan has another gear or two. I am fed up now that I've seen how good he is in that having witnessed his skill, strength, accelleration and accurracy I fear that we won't get him. I expect him to be snapped up by Barca or Real or one of of Prem top 4 or an Italian outfit. He leaves all the other suggested buys in the dust. Once or twice in a decade someone comes along who is head and shoulders above the good players. This guy at 22 is not one for the future he is the real deal now. Forget Nani he seems chump change next to Zidan.

Anonymous said...

Zidan looks like a selfish f*cking fruitcake.

What is with the Z shaved into his head and the skull cap? Is he a yid? Who cares, I'd rather have Nani, at least he doesn't look like he's been sectioned recently.

Anonymous said...

archibaldsteve: He is selfish but he delivers as a result and doesn't come accross as a sulk like Anelka. If you watch some of the intewrviews with his coaches in Denmark and Germany and also his team mates they treasure his ability and also seem to like him. If nuts then more like Tino Asprilla was. You can see his rapport with the crowd during matches. Nani looks a good winger but this guy can play wide or through the middle and he scores goals with ease. Also a calm finisher despite leaving defenders in a tangle. Also seems much stronger than other players with blistering pace from a standing start.

Can you read and understand English, moron?

AND THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE:

Keane, yes, as Dawson, yes, extended their contracts. And yes, both news appeared in the club website. Berbatov no, nothing changed. Just read what the boss had to day:
"The key to retaining top players, who want to compete for the Club at the highest level, is to agree long term contracts,” added Daniel. “We have now done so with several of our existing squad players, extending the contracts of players such as Aaron Lennon, Michael Dawson and Tom Huddlestone, as well as having contracted newer players on long contracts, such as Dimitar Berbatov and Didier Zokora."

HAVING CONTRACTED NEWER PLAYERS ON LONG CONTRACTS, rings a bell, honey pees? That means that Berbatov's one and only contract signed one year ago is long, it's a four year contract, in fact. Nothing has been signed ever since. GOT IT?

Anonymous said...

Berba is leaving. I'm quite sure now I read what Levy said. The buy out clause exists.
Bye, Berbs.
Have a nice life in Manchester!

Anonymous said...

"I have two national games ahead of me and that's all I think about right now. My agent deals with the rest. When it's over, then we'll talk about it".

ahahahah

That was Berbatov a few hours ago during the Press Conference of the National Team in Sofia, replying to the question:

"What is going on about your transfer to Manchester United?"

Yes, he'll be free on the 7th. And his agent will be in Manchester tomorrow.

ahahahah

Nani - looks good - but RIGHT FOOTED!!
Maybe he does want lennon to be a left winger - it woudn't surpise me
Berbatov will ot be leaving - he is too happy at spurs - spurs dont need the money and there is no way spurs will sell him even for 40 million + Giggs and Saha

Anonymous said...

There's a buy out clause of 25 M.
He will go.

Anonymous said...

Wow. I didn't realise Petrov was that quick! Check him out on YouTube.com :-) Nani would be a good signing but expect him not to make a big impact until the second or third season IF he comes to us (Hope he does) Berbatov will stay until next season, if we don't make it to the CL then he will be off :-( Sadly

So a lot of you guys have noticed the weakness. A tragedy he doesn't seems to have a left peg at all. I've seen him play dozens of times & he can frustrate like hell, 'cos he's got a lot to learn to tie his talent & skills to team work. But that missing foot- yesterday, i watched the Portuguese Cup Final, which Sporting won 3 mins from the end & no thanks to Nani.
Around the first 10 mins, he's playing wide left, gets a peach of a pass from the left-back, ahead of him to run on to. he leaves the defender for dead, cuts in like he's angling for the cross. I think "Go on, son, shock me". No way. He can't. He checks & switches it to his right foot, as good as Y.P Lee. Defender catches up and the whole thing breaks down. Nuff said. Spurs are the wrong team, wrong time for Nani. We need a bloody decent left-sided, left-FOOTED winger, not an ego with a bag of tricks & no left foot at all!

Anonymous said...

Well said Icarus, wrong team wrong time.

The idea of ben aass eko as a left winger with Bale at left back is growing wings in my brain. Pretty quick, good left foot what else do you need? a few tricks? Steed hasn't got any of these but gets a game there.

Anonymous said...

some man u cock up there who thinks he's the clubs secretary and clearly don't know nothing.... nani doesn't play alongside ronaldo for the national team. it's ronaldo and quaresma for portugal, or ronaldo and simao... quaresma, sneijder, kallstrom, nani, pederson... would all be great signings.

Anonymous said...

notorious and liar: no Keane doesn't say that. read it again, moron.

9:44

what do you know about the Potuguese National side? nothing. YES, Nani plays with Ronaldo and he's a substitute for Quaresma. they both play on the right. do some research before talking and you'll see that again in the next games ahead because all three of them are there, moron.

AND:
Man U officials have negotiated the contract of Nani for 20 M Euro. they were still discussing the terms last night and probably Nani will stay in Sporting next season on a loan, because MAn U don't need him right now and as such they don't have to spend much to secure him. It is also know that Nani would wait a year to go to Man U. It's out of the question he'll go to Spurs.

Read and learn, morons.

And, yes, Berba is going, no matter what the Mirror says.

Anonymous said...

yes Berba is going, sadly for you he's going to sign a new contract. In an interview i conducted on the beach with him yesterday whilst we were both holidaying he revealed that "his hair does not belong in Manchester, due to the rain", happy days.

still the ignorant liar, you moron. didn't read what Levy said yesterday? it is done what the club can do, there's nothing to negotiate with that 25 M clause

and you were with him on the beach? where? on Sofia National team trainnig ground? because that's where he is, idiot. You don't even know how to lie!
