Tottenham Hotspur: TORA! TORA! TORA!

A defensive headache is what the official site calls it. The official site would have probably called Pearl Harbour a 'right old kerfuffle'.

The revolving door of injuries continues a pace for both teams, and despite wanting to play against Chelsea on Saturday......Ledley IS finally back, but OUT are Lee and Ekotto plus the ever cup tied Rocha.

Stalteri is facing the late fitness test in relation to his hip. In the middle we'll be Huddlestoneless, however Murphy is now returned.

Sevilla welcome back Brazilian striker Luis Fabiano but are minus first choice goalie Palop and Ernesto Chevanton. Chevanton, is their top scorer in the competition so far with four.

I want us to win this game so much it hurts.

On balance, if we can do this lot at The Lane we genuinely look like favourites for a decent piece of silverware.

We must attack attack attack and The Lane has to keep the noise up for the entire game.

Team selections and predictions please, chaps...

It's going to be a tough one. The big advantage is the noise the WHL faithful produce!
I think we'll play a 442 - Robbo, Chimbonda (LB), Ifill (RB), King (CB) & Daws (CB).
Lennon (RM), Zokora (CM), Jenas (CM), Malbranque (CM)
Berbatov (FW) & Keane (FW)

I think Jenas has a fantastic engine on him, but he's performances just don't worthy him a start. Personally I'd prefer Tainio who has been fantastic since overcoming his injury probs, but think Big MJ will pick JJ. Any Coments?

Im going for a crushing win tonight, i think we will win 4-1, and altho this wont be the team, its one i would like to see (and a formation united used to tear apart roma)
Robbo

Ifil King Daws Pascal

Lennon Zokora Jenas

Defoe Keane

Berby

I know it may seem weak, but speed is a huge part of the game now, and i cant see any team (especially a spanish one) keeping up with our attacks, plus we gotta get defoe in the team, he needs some confidence and with it could easily bang in 5-6 goals in the remaining games, which could push us to the edge of 4th place

I think we will smash them 3-1 or 4-1.. We deserve to and justice will prevail.. Anyway in terms of Jenas, I think he is quality but has been off the pace recently, then again so has Lennon. I think the team should line up:- Cerny, Chimbo (lb), Daws, King, Stalteri (rb), Lennon (rm), Jenas (lm), Tainio and Zokora, Berbs and Keane. Personally I am not a fan of Malbranque and think he loses the ball too much so time to bench him (as well as robbo)...

Given availablity problems I would go for Cerny, Ifil Dawson King Chimbonda, Lennon Taarabt Zokora Jenas, Berbatov Defoe. Keane as a super-sub because he spends too much time running all over the pitch and not concentrating enough on finishing. In my view he is not good-enough to play mid-field but that's where he spends most of his time....hopefully he will prove me wrong tonight because I am sure he will play instead of DeFoe.
Whatever team we put out, I doubt this will be a repeat of ManU's game and I think it will prbably end 2-2.

I am quietly confident about tonight, I think the tactical issues are more difficult for them. Do they defend and try to hit us on the break or go at as more and try to cancel out the away goal? Either way it is a risky business for them given our proven scoring ability of late.

We need to take great care when (and not if) we go 1-0, 2-0 ahead, it will force them out and then we have tactical decisions to make. Something we have not been particularly good at when going into 2 goal leads also of late!

I would like to see team play without too many changes and for that reason, I would play Ifil on the left and support him with Tainio. Otherwise I would stick with what has become the normal line up

Robinson, Chimbonda, Dawson, King, Ifil, Lennon, Jenas, Zokora, Tainio, Berbatov and Keane.

eeerrrr, do you remember the consequence of Tora, Tora, Tora, hh? eeerrrr, ever heard of ATOM BOMBS? what a very silly simile...unless you want to have us past Seville to be crashed 8-0 by Osasuna !

prediction: it's all up to Berbs, no news there, and he knows it.

blimey - what a day to give up smoking, again !!!

didn't ledley retire a while back mr hotspur ?! ;-)

spurs to stuff 'em tonight - there will be one game when the 20 or so chances we create will all go in ! maybe not tonight, but i can see us getting a hatful, IF we have an explosive start. this so reminds me of when we lost 2-1 away to Rapid Vienna (?) back in 84 and beat them 1-0 at the lane.

win it for the fans spurs, especially the ever loyal european away die hards.

LOAD OF BOLLOCKS!!!!

Well it's half time and it's not looking good(UNDERSTATEMENT!) but we've got pride and our european home record to play for in the second half.

Best we can hope for by the look of things is to salvage a draw on the night and make things look a little more respectable.

Not a happy bunny but King is back and if he makes it through the game without any problems at least he's available for the important games coming up in the priemier league.

Hummpfff...

anyone got words for the ref??..... fucking wanker to be EXACT he is a coplete and utter TOSSER he makes Uriah Rennie look good!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Can't believe what I've just seen. As for the first half, I'm lost for words. Awful might be a start. Fucking embarrasing might be more accurate. Second best everywhere. A little pride restored in the second half when we passed the ball and kept the ball. Still we fell at every hurdle and looked like England v Brazil. When i saw the shot of Mclaren and Levy sat together it kind of made sense.

Oh well, back on the bostik.

That's european football for you rubbish ref's lot's of falling over but it's the same for everyone you just have to learn how to play it.

Let's hope we can get 6th place and try again next year.

And for all those hoping for champs league, we aint ready, another two years gradual improvement and perhaps we might be.

Well played Spurs for second half and well done all who went for the great support.

Well, Harry, this is where the curse of the armband has got us.
That first half was the mother of all curses. I've never seen anything like it.And there goes the only cup Spurs could get hold of this year. I'm not even sure they will finish sixth to play Uefa cup again next year...

What remains of it all is the chosen photo every media is printing of Berbatov beaten by the powers above, looking at the sky in desperation. Is it me being paranoid or is there something very wrong with him since the Braga match? No goals, no energy, as if someone pulled the plug ( and maybe someone did...).

I saw it coming and many had it coming and got what they deserved. In Spain, and in Sevilla particularly, they kill the bulls in the arena. Unless we have a matador who kills them first. We hadn't and there you have it.

I would strongly advise Berba to leave Spurs as fast as he can, but I'm sure he'll stay together with his lovely armband.Pathetic and stupid all of it! I can't see this team going anywhere next year either, that's the truth, with Jol ahead of it, and as they say in Portugal when everything is said and done: "give a shot and go to Spain". In this case, perhaps to a place far away from Seville...

nemesis, knee jerk......?

Minus the knee...

Nemesis, your posts have been fun, perhaps it's my postloss blues, but they are now getting up my nose.

Your Berbatov must leave bollocks is uninformed and worthless. Can I suggest you submit your CV to the Daily Mirror sports desk.

Anonymous said...

Fun? Nemesis is never fun, Harry. It's payback and meant to hurt(not you, of course). If you read all my posting, you know what I mean.
And as for Berba, it's up to him to use the brains God gave him or not. Certainly he's not moving because we tell him to (or not to).
Chill out! Have a Cold shower and watch a bullfight. I'm sure you'll get why Spurs could never have beaten Seville.
Nemesis over and out.

eerrr... Berba has been talking a lot to the Mirror, H, care to revise your statement?
