Okay, you're in charge.

huddlestone - he's big so no-ones gonna argue with him and he'll be able to command the team much better than anyone else in the team. Ledley is 2 quiet and robbo in too far back, keane needs to concentrate on his own game without further responsiblities

ledley king for sure

The Hudd's still youg and doesn't come across as a BIG character as yet, despite his size.

Jenas? Is that a wind up?

Reo Coker!

No brainer for me....the one guy who never gives up.Looks willing to lay down his very life for the cause! And is always the loudest voice on the pitch....add the fact he was our best player of last season to it,and there is only one candidate for me...

Step up Mr.Michael Dawson.
The man gives 110% every single game without fail.A true leader in my opinion.

I'm with 10:18, Dawson makes a compelling arguement everytime he puts the shirt on.

jenas for me. the guy is quality, a natural leader and will bring his game on. the potential to be our best midfielder.

imo, any captain needs to be central to the play i.e. central midfield ala keane at manure - best captain of the premiership if we are honest.

king - too quiet, let him get on with being the countries best centre half.
robbo - too far out the game and needs to be benched for a while, but another discussion.
keane - needs to concentrate getting in the team and scoring goals (but did you see the way he tried to organise the team when he come on yesterday? we so lack that)
hudds - too young, too quiet, not yet established.
dawson - too nice!
chirpy - can anyone speak squawk ?!
chimbonda - cant speak english
zakora - headless chicken, not assured of his place now big tom is in.

running out of options really

From the list of players i'd go with Dawson but not any time soon because he's still far too young. Currently? the strongest character we have/had is Davids, his never say die attitude helped us a lot last season. His absence is the reason why we're getting rolled over away from home.

Gareth Barry would be my choice. Quality player in a position that we lack quality in, also a natural leader, also a spurs fan, need i say more.... Actually i will, surely if Heinze is available from man u, we should make a bid, for me he would be about as good as we could ever hope for at left back.

Barry.

Why not Ronaldo?

Can't see Jol dropping Ledley's captaincy and handing it to the younger Dawson even if he is a more natural or better captain. What do you think Ledley would make of it?

I think midfield is the best place for a captain and ours is crying out for one. Thud has all the atributes except the crucial one; character. He's way too shy and quiet. Sadly.

I reckon we need to buy a midfield captain to play infront of Hudders. I don't think anyone at the club is cocky. aggressive and good enough.

i think berbatov should be captain for the next season or two, then either huddlestone or dawson when they mature a
bit

King

When King's out, Dawson

Some captains are charismatic, dominant personality, vocal; some don't have that but inspire by example (Beckham at his best for England)

Without King and Dawson we'd be West Ham

King

Dave McKay, Alan Mullery, Graham Roberts, Gary Mabutt, Stevie Perryman - where are you?
The only ones who look as though they could be out of this special mould are Dawson and Chimbonda.

I think a change of captancy would give us a good mental boost. Surely keane's the man for the job. he's like a little terrier and never stops running always working hard and directing the younger players. Natural leader who i think will naturallly pick up his game with the added responsibility

Anonymous said...

Dawson and King... I can't see passed them two to be honest - I can see the point for Jenas though, might bring him out of his shell... the way Stevie G reacts to being captain, you put him in an England shirt and he loses something because he doesn't have the remsponsibility

Anonymous said...

obviously king. but i think keano is the real captain anyway

Anonymous said...

Jenas? No way, not good enough. Cant have Keane - cant be promissed the games with the form Defoe is now hitting and you dont want your captain always sitting on the bench. Gotta stay with King at the mo and llok to buy a Midfielder with the leadership qualities, that maybe Hudds but not yet, he is too young and quiet but with more experience has the potential. A good possibility for me would have to be Reo-Coker.

Anonymous said...

flintoff would be my choice. but as he don't play for us i would stick with mr tottenham.

Anonymous said...

stil think king is the man for the job, but it's kinda funny you have even thought about a player from outside of britian, if he could hold down more than a few game i would have to go with Teemu Tainio, a great all round midfield player.

King is still fit for the job until we find someone else. Dawson is the obvious successor but I'd like to see what Malbranque can do once he's more settled. He's shown a huge amount of passion since his very first game and if he keeps it up for a couple more seasons then may god have mercy on our opponents!

Some of the comments on here are amusing.

There's only ever gonna be one choice while he's here (hopefully forever) and that is 'King Ledley'

ALL DAY LONG

One of ours, Youth Team product, Tottenham through & through, loyal, refused to shake rSol's hand upon his return, longest serving player, best player, infact the only real World Class player we have..... END OF.

Back Up's are:

Keano (obviously) Mr Spurs No.2

Dawson (would be captain but for King)

Davids (experience & leadership)

Robbo (Englund's Numba ONE)

That's it, no other real leaders.

So what Ledders isn't mouthing off all the time shouting and ordering, he leads by example, and without him we'd be in REAL trouble.

Oh..... Taino & Malbranque ? wtf !

got 4 Months yet, til April FOOLS

does anyone know what happened to matt of the spurs? he had a good blog and stopped maybe because he was an insider and talking too much?

seriously, sometimes i read these sights and wonder if anyone knows anything about football!!! How on earth can Huddlestone be our captain when he has played about 10 games!!! pathetic, Berbatov? are you serious, he has only just come, learning the game in England, idiots!! Chimbonda?? are you joking?? Jenas.... tell you what my vote goes to Ziegler?!!! King is easily the best captain we have, he is our best most consistent, longest serving player! That is what makes a captain...

Anonymous said...

Berbs is captain of his national team and that is enough...for now. King is still the best man for Spurs job.

Michael Dowson!! He plays with his heart every single match and is a great example too other players.

Michael Dowson, no question about it!!

Michael Dawson has leadership material written all over him. Captaincy has been a burden to King, that is why he plays better for England than he does for Tottenham. Vice captain should be Keane and then King. Having a goalkeeper as captain is a joke.

Anonymous said...

How on earth can anyone doubt King Ledley? Easily the right man to be captain and easily our best player by a mile. We are no where near the same team when he is not playing. Cant believe this even being discussed.

Anonymous said...

Who the f_ck said Teemu Tainio? He is like a different person from last year - awful at the moment and needs to be dropped. You might aswell say Murphy!!!
Keane is a natural but can't be guaranteed of a place so like someone else no point putting your captain on the bench. King is THFC thru and thru but does need to be a bit more vocal. Still think he is the best choice. Davids could have been a few years back due to his experience and commitment but he's not in the team and probably not good enough/fit enough to get in every week.

Seriously think we need to get Heinze and Barry. Like both, both would be a 1st tean reg, as would be Distin, dare i say it Upson and A.Ferdinand. Flog Mido, Gardner, Stalteri, Davenport, Murhpy. Did you see the way Murphy walks about and his half hearted attempts to catch up with play. Davenport is not good enough. Gardner, THFC thru & thru again but never really been good enough.Mido start eating like last year. Stalteri-where do i begin!

I respect what King has done for us over the years, and what he has to offer as a player. but i dont think he makes the best of captains in the world. he isnt a natural leader on the pitch and doesnt compare to sheringham, roy keane, terry, adams, etc etc. Dawson is young, but he has a voice among the team, respect among the leauge. Huddlestone is also a major protenial for me, although he needs to be in the team every match for it to be a success. Robbo just doesnt count for me, as he just makes too many mistakes this season and blames others.

Anonymous said...

King is king. A:we don't know what he says on the pitch (Saying somethg to a team mate might be just as effective as shouting at a group of team mates). B: King has done nothing as captain to deserve demotion. His present (and we hope short term) injury problem is not a reason to find another permanent captain. In the meantime the club of course shd appoint a vice captain (Keane or Dawson) who acts as captain in absence of the King. If King does something to bring THFC into disrepute or team morale obviously collapses, then the squad + manager can re-think. Hope this is acceptable.

Why bother with a captain?

There wasn't one for the second half against Cardiff!!!

When they came out all nice and clean, our third choice captain thought that much of his responsibility to lead the team that he left the armband in the visitors dressing room at ninian park.

to answer your question, i think keane is vice captain to king at present

bad news, mates: the scum is back fir the carling. Berbs birthday is going to be at the emirates. let's hope is up their Arse !!!

Jon Carmody said...

i dont think we have a real leader,we need a leader like tony adams or viera!!someone who can lead us to trophies!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Lee Young Pyo for captain !!!

Anonymous said...

o.k. lucky Berbs, the date of the visit to the Arse changed. even if we get beaten or he doesn't score he won't have a poisoned gift for his birthday. So on the 31 th it will be ! ( I would like to be optimistic but I think the carling will be off for us on that day. The Arse is pretty strong now!).

Anonymous said...

Mido - no question. It would boost his self-esteem no end and he would flourish under the extra responsibility.

Beckham?

Daw-son For England!

are you idiots? king is too quiet? do you know him personally? there's no doubt that king is our best choice captain, he's been our best player for the last 3 years just hasn't got the credit becuase he's a centre back. he has the respect of everyone at the club and out of it, he's the most loyal player we have, he gets on with his job! ok, so you don't see him screaming and shouting, so what? his job i sto organise the backline, and he certainly does that! end of the day, should be 11 captians on the pitch!

Anonymous said...

anon 9.59

isnt the whole point of being a captain to scream and shout when required and to organise more than just the back line?

no-one disputes king's loyalty, best player, everyone likes him etc etc, personally i just think he lacks that certain thing that stands him out and gees up the team when needed, ala keane, adamscum, robson, pearce....thats my point anyway.
