Tottenham Hotspur: Should We Buy Ashley Young?

Despite there still having been no clear announcement from Watford that he's leaving them, Super Tottenham, the fantasy destination of most soccer writers this side of the Yukon, are still rumbling that Young may end up at The Lane.

But would you buy him? And might I ask, at what class of money? Three goals and four assists so far. Certainly a shining star in an otherwise pretty dull firmament at Vicarage Road, that's for sure... But do we want him might be a question only BMJ can truly answer. But do we need him is one we can all have a pop at.

Routledge has looked nothing short of sparky at Fulham and we already own him.

Thoughts please...

Havent really seen much of him, but he seems to be quite talented. And the fact that he's 2 footed, a dead ball 'specialist' and his fave position is on the left are all positives and are what we need in the squad. I say buy him, but not for more than 5 or 6 mill, none of this 8 or 10 bollox

What ive seen of this player this season he looks good very athletic young and ENGLISH which is always good, would prefer to play on the left which i feel this season we have been missing badly i feel if young came to us it would make us much less narrow an give us a player that can stay on the f***ing wing, i say buy buy buy definately.

Did you mean to type Sparky? I think he's looked nothing short of awful at fulham, also he plays on the right and Young prefers the left... to be honest I don't care how much he costs us, because if it finally gets us a left midfielder he could well go on to be invaluable!

Yes, we should buy him for the reasons already quoted - young, English, fast, EPL proven, strong on the left hand side but can play both flanks as well as a striker. IMO he is the real deal - I just hope that we do not drag it out and risk losing him - we almost lost Chimbonda and look how good he has turned out for us - pay the money and get him in so that he can bond with the team as soon as possible. We should not ever be reckless with money but we certainly do well with transfer dealings overall. Watford know they have an excellent commodity as there are just not that many left sided players out there with the class that we need. Sign the cheque Daniel and have done with - you will get a good return on the players that will be leaving in the summer.

Is he left footed? I haven't been able to work this out as I haven't seen him much this season. If he prefers the left, but like LYP, is right footed, I'd rather look elsewhere... We need genuine left footed player, or else may as well keep what we've got as Steed is our man on the left with Lennon returning anyway. Also, there are SO many one season wonders, 8 Mill would be daft. Rising to 8 Million i'd understand, dependant on doing well enought, to say play Internationally... I really would love Heinze btw, great left back, and when King's out can play CB and provide the experience, tho admitedly not the pace...

He's two footed, but he takes the dead ball's with his left, so it seems he's a true lefty!!! BUY BUY BUY

If the price is right i say grab him, hes english, hungry and young (no pun intended).
He is definately what we need

Give Blackburn what they want for Morten Gamst Pedersen. It's really that easy

Young? great talent! but i would rather see Gabriel Heinze filling the much required left back spot. What do the rest of you think?

Until the run up to the opening of the transfer window nobody ever mentioned him and only a minority of fans had ever heard of him. Now everybody is urging we pay silly money for him. There is not too much talk of the top four looking at him.

Give him a go. He looks talented and athletic and can fill our problem area. At worse if things don't work out for him we could sell him on at a similar value. I am pretty sure if we do not buy him now (and now is when we really need him) he will improve rapidly and his price will rise sharply and spurs will really regret the missed oppertunity. Not Many Young athletic talented and two footed english players out there who like to play on the left of midfield. Two footers allways turn out class acts with time look at Ginola

watford are my local team so have seen them alot over the last fe seasons and young is the real deal. he is quick, can use both feet, quality freekick and shot and most of all he is young, in both senses of the word. i say buy him whatever-he will solve the left hand side problem for many a season

Jol is still running amok, I'm afraid. He now declared Defoe as influential in Spurs as Terry in Chelsea !!! on what grounds/facts he didn't say. really, harry, what are they drinking at the Lane theses days?

yes a definite buy he is an outstanding double footed player who prefers left but can play rm,cm,lm, cf and wf, and he is 'young ' lol ,.... in his early 20's (21-22)
he has scored a couple of goals and a slightly less talented mirror of lennon on the left

what could possibly go wrong
i would bid what we have to and offer mido and davenport going the other way , +1-3 million which would definetly strike a deal with them as they are in need of a postman striker ,
ashley young is a important part to england u-21's and i could imagine him in a spurs shirt

youg is also on my master league pro evoultion team that just about sums it up lol

brad
and p.s he is a better crosser than lennon

and also mido is unused and useless
we should try and meat a deal for tevez (unsettled at west ham) for a 4th striker or maybe we could use malbranque i guess as a 4th striker

i totally agree with u bradley

we need a left winger end of we also need a left back! as quoted we nearly missed chimbo and he is great buy him lend a few whatever
don't get me started harry on the middle of the park though .....

ok Harrry, still looking for some great rumours? ever heard about the Dutch axis who want to take over chelsea? look what I just discovered:
"According to an inside source, Frank Arnesen wants Spurs coach Martin Jol to work alongside him at Chelsea and the Blues are prepared to allow Jose Mourinho to move in the opposite direction to facilitate the deal."
Beautiful!!! Can you get better than this? I beit you won't.
But here is a whisper, not a rumour: if mourinho leaves to real, to build a new team, he will take lampard and carvalho with him and probably he will try to snatch... Berbatov from us. we better keep berba happy then!
COYS!

Hey guys, Ashley young is a Gooner fan! I personally say no to him@!

I dont agree with getting Tevez to replace Mido. True, he's a fantastic prospect of a striker and in La Liga/Serie A he will probably get 30+ goals a season. However he's not fit for premiership as proven so far.. even playing for West Ham he should have scored 1 by now.

Young would be a great signing, no question (other than price), but what about Ziegler? Even Lennon or Malbranque on the left for the time being at least? Hell! Even Davids is left footed if we keep him 'til summer!

Quite right.

Tevez is clearly in the wrong league let alone the wrong club.

for 8 million? no. much better quality elsewhere probably, but dont know who.

after toons:
Mourinho warned they had one of the best defences in the Prem; lucky them, lucky Chelski( how can he complain without losing?) and poor Spurs, how unlucky we don't have bloody Mourinho. the man is a pain but he knows how to run the show.
that said, what can I say without moaning, harry? I've been watching this sad display, trying to be correct and just in my opinions and today I know for sure that we have to get a new boss. the main problem is poor coaching and weak leadership (no strong tactics, no clear strategics).the players' heads are a mess! they were totally out of control after the last goal. like this we don't beat Cardiff, nor Feyenoord, nor Arsenal ,and soon all will be over for us. a total zero campaign. do we wnat that, mates? well, hell no! time to go, Mr. Jol!

Don't be ridiculous.

I personally thought the boys gave a fantastic performance, there was no way Newcastle deserved the win. Granted, Martins' goal was fairly spectacular, but that was the only spectacular thing about them.

Spurs on the other hand looked fiery, hungry for goal and if we keep playing like that then I'd be very happy. Cardiff beware!

ridiculous means laughable, hh, and I'm damn serious...unfortunately!
