Martin Jol Does Winston Churchill

Jol was clearly handing out the cigars after the Villa victory. He even rolled out his Winston Churchill impression.

'Will you sell Defoe?'

'Never...'

I just hope that what White Hart Lane expects coincides with what that big lovable Dutchman will deliver.

The loss at Newcastle was relatively miserable fare and points-wise at least, mathematically it eliminated any good from the subsequent win against Martin O'Neil's charges.

Spurs stay seventh unable to better that position even if they beat the Pool next time out. They are facing a run of games now where sustained form is the ticket if they wish to genuinely barge their way upward and break into the cartel of Portsmouth, Liverpool and Bolton. Hanging on by your fingertips to a top ten placing due to inexplicable occasionable foul ups isn't going to get us anywhere.

Defoe has recovered his tremendous form and for the moment at least without threat for his starting place. My want is that his partnership with Berbatov be allowed even longer. The game on Saturday was proof that they are able to compliment each other. But it's the always the same old feelings from me. We love you - that's why we want more.

Don't get me wrong, I want Keane back in the squad tomorrow, but I fear the temptation to tinker. Squad rotation is to facilitate obstacles; injuries, heavy schedules etc... change for change's sake is divisive. Defoe has proved he doesn't benefit from being given the last 20 minutes.

The confirmed fixture list as it stands today has us playing no more than once every week for the next two months. Defoe and Berbatov ought start together at least until we're beyond that and then have to cope with additional European and domestic cup fixtures.

So come on Marty, you sounded bullish enough on Boxing Day. Let's stick with a good thing and watch that boy Huddlestone put the ball through where Dimitar and Jermain like it best.

We'll fight them on the beaches, we'll fight them on the etc etc (fade to recording of Spitfires and distant strains of Land Of Hope And Glory)....

what an awesome video, set to some brilliant music (the wife just told me it was gladiator - i didnt know that!)

i reckon jol should play that to the team, whoever plays, before each game, because if that doesnt get them going, nothing will. the hairs on the back of my neck are just subsiding.

well found harry mate - give the pit bull productions geezer a job.

Soundtrack is from Pirates of the Carab, mates. Great propaganda stuff, but I'm not sure at all about the real greatness of Jol or the team. Everything can go down in the next games: I mean the Cups and the place in CL.
There's a lot of selfishness in some guys who want to shine and that's not good. I wonder how long will Berbs be the generous link-up player he has been until now so that others can score and not him. I enjoyed watching Jol kissing his forehead because he has been the heart and soul of the team. I don't see Defoe (or others) sacrificing themselves like that.
See you after Liverpool. Maybe I'll be more optimistic then!

Good find indeed Harry but your articles have gone up a notch or two recently if I may be so bold. I know of no better Spurs site currently on the web. Good stuff.

Let's hope our boys also raise their standard during the next couple of months. liverpool will be a test even at home, let's see if we can make a point and take 3.

Go on the Spurs!

apparantley, spurs record consecutive home wins is 14 in 1987 season, according to vital football. don't want to tempt fate, but 3 games to go......
hudds seems to be a lucky mascot as well - just 1 game lost all season when he's started.
come on spurs, let's start with a record then a couple of cup finals.

i second el's comments as well HH - you seem to have taken shelf's mantle - i wonder if paxton posts on here as anonymous ?!

oh dannyboy, so who's your daddy now? still wannna boss me around? think twice before you make a fool of yourself again. I know my business, mates.
As for the "Pool cruel" nothing new: the team is weak, so is Jol, they lack strategy, willpower and team spirit.
Solution: the crowd knows already who the king is, but Berbs is only one man, even if his heart is as big as his body. We need to build the team around him and march to war on the New Year's Day: New Year, New Life, no more messing around with the players's heads, Mr. Jol; no more time to play the big star for the rest of the players: work, motivation, strengh and sacrifice. Follow Berbs' example: today he was not well at all but look what he achieved in 35 minutes in the rain. He's great in everything he does and that's not because of the crowd or the fame or because he talks a lot ( thank God he doesn't), but because he is really, truly a wonder.Spurs are lucky to have him. We should cherish that.
So, mates, here it goes:
Happy Year of 2007 for all.
Keep the faith and follow the leader.
Berbs is our star,
Give us hope, Dimitar !

ARE you a Jol Out merchant?

Plenty of passion which is of course good, but if you want to chuck your weight around on here matey you'll need back it up with more than having a pop.

That's fair, so go on then...

hey gents, now I'm a child? or do I know my football? what do you need Harry? credentials? it's not a question of passion, I don't believe in Santa and you know it, it is pure facts. it's a pity you cannot recognise it. I made a point, I proved it and I'm showing the way to victory. I'm not trying to out Jol, of course, but I stand for what I said: it's this way or goodbye Cups and CL next year.Anyway, I'm off now. And of course my New Year's wishes are for all, including those who like to boss people around !
