Tottenham Negotiating For Ronaldinho

Now it might be argued that there's more chance of Bill Shatner being wooed in a Spanish hotel room and installed as Juande's replacement, but here's what I have...

Essentially a golf buddy of Paul Kemsley and pal of 'an agent that acts on behalf of Spurs in many transfer dealings' are saying...

Totteham are in advanced negotiations with Ronaldinho for the transfer of the player to White Hart Lane.

"There are only two clubs negotiating us and AC Milan."

"His preference is to come to the PL....... and he does not want to join a CL club, but rebuild his reputation by helping a club into the CL... and he wants to play in London......".

Also, it is alleged that he has already visited THFC on more than one occasion.

And this will make you laugh, the one sticking point is the filthy lucre.

He wants £140,000 pwk.
And we have offered £ 70,000 pwk.
But with Plan A that 'sponsors will make up the deficit.'
Or Plan B whereby an annual bonus of £3.5 million be paid.
(Woodgate is named in this info as our highest paid player at the club at £60k per week.)

This tale comes from private members forum Spurs Odious and specifically poster Markspurs, who's information is generally of a tip top nature, hence me sharing it with you.

Obviously Ronnie will have to embrace some cultural differences, like he's NOT going to bump into the likes of Alexander Paressant down Faces, innit...

Lord Harold,

Even more alarming than your rumour that Ronnie wants to come and sample the North London night life (as the word is that he never trains anymore), is your recent rumour that Spurs are after the Rangers keeper McGregor. I saw him play against Celtic recently and was amazed to see that he is fatter than Robbo.

This is all fake ofc. like hell he "does not want to go to a CL club".
He has nothing to prove by "rebuildings his rep" as he is installed as the best player in the world, without question.

Whats more, he likes to play football where it has a summer and nice weather, so london is out of that question

Last week, it was Citeh who were being linked with the toothy (former) genius. Good old Sven, when questioned about the possibilty of Ronaldinho signing for the blue half of Manchester, remarked "I'm not sure the Intertoto Cup would appeal to him."
Which must be the politest way of saying "bollocks" in history.

I'm away for 2 weeks and although I thankfully missed nothing in terms of actual football by our boys I have clearly missed out on some cunnining master plan of HH to run a month long April fools.

I can only forsee this as even the remotest of posibilities if Levy has some tasty foreign investors lined up to buy the club...which at this stage doesn't seem completely unlikely.

Anonymous said...

the chances r that AC Milan will not get into the champions league next season being 5 points behind Fiorantina! Considering they r a grandad team whos knows where he will go ... berbatov and ronaldhino aint 2 bad though

totspurs said...

I can confirm that this is something that has a strong possiblity of happening from extremly reliable sources in Spain. Ronnie's first choice is to play in the English Premier League and live in london. He does not like the way Chelsea play and knows Juande well from his time in spain. He is not that botherd with the fact that the Spurs are not playing in the champions league he actualy would prefer to play for a team whereby he is the main player. His brother is the one who deals with all his financial side and is trying to get him the best deal signing on fee and wages ( final pay day ) this is nowhere near a done deal but also a stong possibility.

Harry Hotspur said...

totspurs thanks for sharing that. So this tale of a lunatic might might might might be true? Blimey!

Anonymous said...

I can also confirm it. I live in Scotland and have a friend called Ron who said he'd consider it if he were Brazilian and could play footy reasonably well.

Anonymous said...

I really can not believe that if Ronaldinho really was for sale someone like Chelsea who are being given 100m by Mr A would not be in for him!!! This is a little far fetched for my liking! If it is true and we offered 70,000 grand per week and he wanted 140,000, they would have terminated discussions immediately!

I heard this really reliable story from my gran, the one who died in 1989. She had absolutely no interest in football whatsoever so I was really impressed with what happened when I was on the ouija board this afternoon. Ronaldo will be leaving Milan to join Spurs (swapping with Martin Chivers) along with Ronaldinho; with such a powerful lineup Ronaldo will be leaving Manchester United (swap with Gardner) to joint us as well. We'll play Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Ronaldo upfront so that we can say we have the most alliterative team in the Premiership. Berbatov has agreed not only to stay but to change his name to Ronaldinov; Robbie Keane is excited by the opportunity and will call himself Robaldo as he is a club man and always joins in the spirit of the place. Paul Robinson will stay, that's official and he'll be Robaldino. According to my Gran, the future at Spurs is very rosy and we'll finish in the top seventeen next year, without a doubt. She predicted Red Rum would win in 1977 and she lived only a mile from Wembley Stadium so she can't be wrong.

Anonymous said...

That's funny. I heard exactly the same myself. I said to my mate who told me, "Don't talk b*ll*cks. There's no way that Robinson's staying."

Anonymous said...

Liverpool has Pennant. That makes it the most illiterative team in the Premiership.

I think 22.15 is on the money and just confirms HH has a brilliant source.

Apparently, Peter Cech is joining as well because it's been his lifelong ambition to play in the UEFA cup and feels he can relate to the area more as most people living in Tottenham have suffered a serious head injury.

Interesting quotes from some of you anonymous posters, such as the Anon 15.48 choice "He has nothing to prove by "rebuildings his rep" as he is installed as the best player in the world, without question."

Wrong - not specifically the bit where he says "rebuildings" instead of "rebuilding" (though that is also wrong :-))...

It's the bit where he says Ronaldinho is installed as the best player in the world, without question. The best player in the world right now is probably Cristiano Ronaldo. Barcelona's best player is considered by them to be Lionel Messi, and that has been the case for the past two years. They are quite happy to let Ronaldinho go. He has had fitness issues for sure, and it's fair to say he's perhaps lost a step. He's now 28yrs old. But IMO if he did come, he would undoubtedly up our quality in the middle of the park. Assuming he got fit, and stayed fit, I think he would be a worthwhile addition. With his footballing brain and skill level he'd also be a wonderful mentor to our youngsters (Taarabt etc.)

I was thinking this could be done, could be plausible until I found out some more...

News coming out of Spain in the last 24 hours has suggested that despite agreeing personal terms with AC Milan, the two clubs have failed to come together on the transfer fee. I expected that would come down to Barcelona wanting more than AC are prepared to pay for a player who is currently out for the remainder of the season. When I read that Bercelona wanted 35 million GBP for him I nearly fell off my chair! AC Milan it seems tabled a 15 million GBP offer.

As I was writing this I was thinking the valuation would be a lot lower. Nearer the 10 to 15 million GBP mark. Barcelona are having a laugh! I was going to suggest, that all the reasons mentioned that made Spurs an appealing option to the player were valid. I still think they are. What is not valid, is Barcelona's incredibly optimistic valuation. I suppose the more time they (AC and Barcelona) spend negotiating, the more opportunities for another club to make a better offer than AC's. But IMO we should not be getting involved in a bidding war for this guy. I've changed my mind. If he's gonna cost perhaps 25 to 30 million GBP let's look elsewhere! At that kind of a price surely the risks outweigh the potential rewards...

Personally I think this is a load of Bollocks. However, if the bit about him wanting 170k per week is true I can't see the club paying and if they did it would be complete madness.

Anonymous said...

Even if Ronaldinho was 38 he`d still be better than the rest of our midfield (possibly only Lennon aside for 10mins when he`s on a good day and the opponents are Wigan).

Surely a wild wild rumour at best but until somebody comes out and denies it anything is possible. Him and David Villa would be fairly positive summer signings I reckon! hehe

Anonymous said...

I see Andy Barnard has now scored 9times in 11 games. Alright, I know it's for a 3rd division club but...Barnard out for £40k (the Times reckon) and Bent in for £100 zillion....good business?

AB joins the ranks of the "why did we let them go...and so cheaply" ex Spurs men...

Unknown said...

Now, without wanting to jump on the bandwagon of throwing rumours around as easily as Berbatov throws tantrums....

I have it on fairly good authority and I say fairly in the most tentative way, that a certain Evertonian player is pretty much guaranteed to join us in the summer.

I'll let you lot take a wild guess at who it might be (Clue: midfielder) and obviously come summer if I am wrong I shall make a point of apologising and eating my humble pie.

Apparently we're looking at the region of £14 million for him.

Anonymous said...

remember when we signed klinsmann? it is actually possible to sign world class players without being in the champions league ya know, its not a law that you must be in it to sign someone quality. Champions League is all well and good but it would be pointless a player like Ronaldinho joining Chelsea because they dont play his style of football. I think Spurs would be a good move for him.

shanemac said...

Hopefully that's Arteta you're talking about. That'd be a good start to the summer I think. I also preferred the rumours about Xabi Alonso coming to these about Ronaldinho, but I guess they're both equally nebulous.

The real question is which of our midfielders will still be seeing time on the pitch next year. I think Jenas and Lennon will still be playing, but Poyet had big words for Huddlestone....

Harry Hotspur said...

Arteta would be a snip at £14 mill in my book.

How good's the source Chrisptoher?

;)

Anonymous said...

Yes, Christopher! Do tell... that really would be a great "get" if true.

To the anonymous poster worried about us letting go of Barnard on the cheap, at least do him the honour of referring to him by his proper name, which is Lee! ;-)

Anonymous said...

Just a little addendum to my earlier post regarding the AC Milan offer for Ronaldinho.

Spanish and Italian press are suggesting that AC tabled a bid in the region of just over 20 million EUROS for the services of BOTH Ronaldinho and Zambrotta. Barcelona consider their valuation for the pair at 50 million EUROS. Just to clarify. As such it may be possible to obtain Dinho's services for a transfer fee somewhat closer to my original estimate! And if so, IMO it becomes a more viable financial proposition.

Anonymous said...

Graham Hunter on Talkshite last week gave this rumour a lot of credence saying that Ronaldinho wants to come to the EPL but only to a London club, and following Ramos' recent comments about him charged his agent (also his brother) with establishing exactly whether Spurs are interested and would be able to afford him. He said that Milan were effectively his brother/aent's first choice, but that Ronaldinho himself wants to come to London. Chelsea are chasing Kaka and Ronaldinho is not Wenger's type of signing. So its not as far fetched as it seems at first.

Anonymous said...

A few weeks ago it seemed clear that Spurs were two-thirds of a good team. The third missing was the middle. Since then, our play has descended to such mediocrity that (end-of-season malaise aside) we've seemed even less than two-thirds of an outfit.

Assuming that the descent isn't indicative of a deeper problem, Arteta (should he come) will provide dextrous content to that missing third.

What news of the leavers, Harry? After reports that Chimbo may have played himself back into favour, more recent stories suggest he's on his way. One particular throwaway line on another website (in reference to his absence from the Wigan game) seemed pertinent to me, so I'm inferring he's off.

As for Cerny, even he reckons he's off - reluctantly, as it happens. Can't help feeling a twinge of sadness for him. He seems happy at Spurs.

If Ronaldhino came to England he would have to be prepared for the increased physical demands. His current approach to the game (according to some) might be more easily accommodated in Italian football. I'm uncertain if he is alleged to dislike English football or just Chel*ea (style of play, that is). If he dislikes Chel*ea, then he must have some footballing integrity left in his talented frame.

But Spurs have form in such transfers. Spurs once stunned the league by signing Ardiles and Villa. Is there a connection with Gilberto, perhaps? Am I clutching at straws, or has Gilberto some function other than to bemuse us as to his presence? When he arrived in the transfer window, I wondered if (besides playing) he might be used to mentor the Prince.

As it appears that the Prince is beyond mentoring, is Gilberto some sort of Brazilian vanguard, to facilitate the acclimatisation of his renowned countryman? I'm fairly sure Ronaldinho knows there aren't any beaches in North London, so maybe I'm talking even more bull5hit than normally.

But why shouldn't he be at a point in his career when he wants a new challenge? He's 28 and has lived a bit. He's maturing and his goals are changing. The rumour could have legs. Should he come, I trust him to find his.

One other thing - those comments made by Ramos a couple of weeks back - to the effect that, if Ronaldinho became available, Spurs would be interested because Spurs are always interested in intesting players.

Some responses to the media are merely that. Others are coded.

Plus, there was his recent visit to Spain to fulfil a charitable function. Such a visit would have been appropriate cover for opening diplomatic channels. Sure, he can easily pick up the phone if he wants to talk to someone. But some things still have to be done in person.

I'm just trying to read between lines. I hope I haven't got it too wrong and that we're actually signing Titus Bramble.

The whole deal is a curious one alright. The source for this tale is invariably good that much I can tell you. And that much is not up for debate.

The suspension of disbelief required is all too much for many Spurs fans. But THFC have form for both audacious signings and hoovering up so called borderline time expired heros.

We've reinvented ourselves more often than Bowie fer Chrissakes. By igniting in our supporters the Good For Glory Factor.

For 'Let them eat cake' see also 'Sign Klinsmann' or 'Gazza' or indeed 'Ossie & Ricky'...

Sure, this tale may disintergrate in days, but equally stranger things have happened at sea.

Question is, can Levy knock out the weavils and serve up a slap up sensation?

Anonymous said...

Don't worry yourself 9.37 Anon. We can't be signing Titus Bramble. Because the Daily Mail say we've practically already secured the services of Ben Haim from Chelsea... and Setanta say Ramos is bidding for Daniel "Cata" Diaz of Getafe.

Now that takes care of yet more defensive business (apparently) all that remains to be done is take care of the midfielders such as Ronaldinho and/or Arteta (I wouldn't think we would take both), a couple of goalkeepers, and Berba's replacement!!!

Excuse the touch of sarcasm regarding the defensive acquisitions btw, but I'll wait for HH to confirm or deny :-) After all, there's only been 100 players linked to us so far, and the window isn't even open yet...

I really should be watching this Olympique Marseille All Stars vs 4-4-2 charity game, I've only missed eight goals so far... "Oooh, ahh, Cantona!" :-/

Given that Ben Haim probably made a few appearances under Avram playing for the Israeli national side I think his comments were perhaps was more angled towards the fact that not only did they let Mourinho go, but they chose to replace him with Grant. Reading between the lines.

Managed to see the final six goals in the charity game. Even if the goalies were doing their best Robbo impressions i.e. rooted to the spot or looking fat! I daresay each goal upped the donations too, hence the 10 - 5 final score!

Christian Karambeu still showed some real quality. As did Zidane etc. Naturally. Not suggesting we should bring any of them out of retirement of course (!) but it would be nice to get someone close to their level in midfield in terms of ability. We can always dream!
