Tottenham Hotspurs' Berbatov To Quit !

Enough is enough.

The defeatist garbage that has tried to pass itself off as journalism in the past day or two has got me fuming.

I can cope with the usual guff, fantasy and outright cobblers from the usual suspects. And you know who you are! Keane's off to Villa, Defoe spotted at John Lennon Airport, Gareth Bale spotted in the Megastore buying a bedside lamp...

The News Of The World ran a speculative story that Manchester United want Berbatov and to that end would 'throw in' Saha to secure his signature.
Enter the Dragon exit commonsense and backbone.

Whilst Sir Alex isn't adverse to having this type of tale do the rounds in moderation, it's still just that, a tale.
But now Topspurs and Vital have joined in with the 'End Is Nigh' nonsense.

"If we are going to sell then we have to receive an over inflated price for him, so we can replace him and kick on to win a Champions League place next season. " vital

"...my over-riding impression..
is that Dimitar Berbatov will not be there next year." topspurs

Give me strength!

Yes, Berbatov was thoroughly depressed with the abysmal service he got on Saturday.

Yes, he wasn't looking when Robbo was queuing up another of his dreadful 'hoof it up' it up jobs. Yes, Jol failed tactically again against a superior manager as he did against Jose at The Bridge.
Yes, United have the money and allure to bid for a player like Dimitar...

But for the love of God, do we really think so little of Jol, our Club and ourselves that we can embrace such out and out defeatism that after one season our superstar striker will walk?

I was pulling my hair out with the best of them at The Lane on Saturday.
Jenas was desperate and incredibly stayed on.
Zokora drove forward at every attempt and was subbed.
No credible link play to Berbatov left him scrapping for nothing from Robinsons' punts.
Defoe put on with 27 seconds to play.... the list goes on.

But, progress under Jol HAS been tangible.

A climate of fear and stupidity from our own supporters will not aid our advancement.

These Tottenham websites flap about like wet hens when they ought be championing what we have achieved and demanding that we (or rather BMJ) correct what's still not right.

Or are we Tottenham in disguise?

Quite simply, Berbatov's agent is quoted as saying that he is staying for ''one more season at least''. I know he's an agent, but it's good enough for me.

If we do not qualify for the UEFA cup Berbatov will go whatever was said earlier .

Spot on Harry.

Good One HH!

What made me laugh was that I heard Bobby Charlton get all worked on the radio because Rael Madrid had the audacity to claim they would buy Ronaldo. He complained how wrong it was for another team to try and unsettle one of his players.

Talk about the pot & the kettle and hypocracy! I dont think I am being too cyncil when I say these stories about Berbatov eminate initally from Man U themselves, after all this is how it all started with Carrick.

Our board have to learn to say on .. in the same way Midds did over Downing and Blackburn over Pederson,

Why dont you get it into your ignorant skulls that semi-decent players like berbatov won't be at tottenshit forever, because he'd actually like to win something some day! He'll go so will lennon etc..

Anonymous said...

yikes! I meant our board have to learn to say "no"!

Anonymous said...

whew! I am glad you said he would go to a team that actually might win something, for one horrible moment I thought you were going to say he would go to Arsenal

Anonymous said...

I don't say it very often but well said Harry, my god how you are changing compared to your comments last year when all was doom and gloom.

Anonymous said...

Harry...unfortunatly you and a lot of others are missing the point.

What you do not understand is that Berbatov has a two year contract and of course he and his agent say he will honour it.....they don't have any other choice. As he is a class act, big offers will come in for him at the end of this season.

If we turn them down and make him play out the last year of his contract he is free to leave for NOTHING at the end of next year. (short memories you boys have..remember judas).
I do not want him to leave....but if a big money offer comes in it will be a business desicion to take the money instead of nothing next year. At least they can start to buy with any cash winfall Berbatov will give us.

The only way to keep him is for us to start playing like a team who will challenge for a top spot. At the moment he is getting p**sed off by the likes of jenas giving the ball away all day. Jol needs to get his act together and buy some more class players, ( defenders who can defend!!), and get rid of the hsite thats still not up to standard.

Convince Berbatov we wont accept second rate performances from some of the squad, sign some more top draw players and he will be happy to stay and sign a new contract. Don't forget he has already turned down a five year extention, stating that he want to see where Spurs are heading.

Looking at him on the park he is not happy now with what he sees.....and I don't blame him!!!

The usual Tottenham disease strikes again..season aint even over and usual arseholes of the tabloid media trying to stop best selling bad news in Spurs qualifying for europe so they can have more sellable stories during the boring summer..fuck them all

Anonymous said...

Hi, I've got an ignorant skull but I also live in the real world, here are some facts: -

1. Berbatov has stated that he's staying.

2. He's got 3 years left to run on his contract an Spurs have an option on another 2 years.

3. He's on £23K a week which is a lot to you and me but nothing to Spurs so if we wanted too we could dump him in the reserves and forget about him if there was any funny business.

4. Probably the most important point, Spurs are massively cash rich. Just posted a £20M profit for the last six months with little or no debt. In short we DON'T need the money.

So everybody calm down Harry is right. Probably paper talk and if it isn't we hold ALL the cards.

I thought Berby was on a four year contract.... if it's two years, then fair enough.

Berby AND his agent hve BOTH said that he WILL stay at the Lane NEXT SEASON. Those who are saying that getting as much money for him to re-invest for our Champions League push don't know what the hell they are on about.

If we get rid of Berby, there will be NO Champions League push.

Simple as that.

Berby's situation and Carrick's situation are completely different, so no point comparing the two.

Anonymous said...

He has a 4 year contract (not 2) and with a option for 2 more years

Berby has it is in his contract that if we dont qualify for europe, he can walk. that was stated when he signed. so we have 4 games to decide if he stays or goes. simple as that

Anonymous said...

"Berby has it is in his contract that if we dont qualify for europe, he can walk."

and your evidence to justify that comment is ?

Anonymous said...

it was stated by the club when he signed. it is a standard clause. he only came cos we were in the uefa cup. same as a relegation clause. he needed assurance in case it all went tits up that he could leave

Anonymous said...

seem to remember that was mentioned last summer when he arrived actually.

Anonymous said...

if he was signed in to such a concrete contract, why do you think they were negotiating with him last month?? silly arse

Anonymous said...

Football contract aren't worth a wank lads.

The key to him stopping in N17 is Jol getting the other tarts to pass him a ball or two each game he can use.

Anonymous said...

exactly. he has to be convinced to stay, and without UEFA, that will be impossible. he is playing with monkeys.

Anonymous said...

I watched Berbs off the ball in the last 10 mins on Saturday. He was in a sulk and barely breaking into a jog as we launched another attack. An understandable sulk probably but his body language didn't do us any good. When T.H. from up the road is frustrated he still gets on with encouraging everybody around him. I would like to see Berbs leading us in the same way. Keep his criticism and obvious frustration until after the game in the privacy of the dressing room. He's a fabulous player and we desperately want him to stay and be our new god but he also needs to do his bit while we try to take this next big step upwards.

Anonymous said...

they were not negotiating with him last month, that was paper talk which he denied

Anonymous said...

Does anyone out there know what contract he is on or is this more bloody speculation???

Anonymous said...

Valid point, gee

Berbatov was quite sulky and perhaps if he had a captain or was captain there might be more for him to cling onto???

Anonymous said...

well the paper said DC was talking to his agent, so make up your mind. either way, if we are 8th or lower this season, he will never play for us again. would you, if you were him???

Anonymous said...

bring back andy reid, the pie eating fat bastard

Anonymous said...

gee, "launching another attack". Are you sure this was on Saturday just gone?

Anonymous said...

What IS the problem,

Bolton have Chelsea (A), WHU (A) and Villa (H). They may get 6 points will give them 60

Reading have Newcastle (H), Watford (H), Blackburn (A) they may get 7, gives them 58

Everton have Man U (H), Chelsea (A). Portsmouth (H) they may get 4 gives them 58

Portsmouth have Liverpool (H), Everton (A) & Arsenal (H) maybe they will get 3 gives them 53

We have 50 and so need to win 3 of our last 4 of which 2 are at home, that hardly sounds like mission impossible!

Anonymous said...

I don't get it, h, why are you so nervous about a rational thought?Spurs are not good enough for Berba,
ergo,
Berba goes to a better club to win what he deserves.
Is that stupid? No, sorry, but if he stays,THAT is stupid. This is the player's point of view.

Now, the Club's point of view, of course, is that he has to stay, we cannot lose him, he's our captain and king (though not on paper or armband).

But if he wants to go, what do you think is the right decision? To make him stay against his will?

Therefore, the answer is his own. We must accept it, even if we don't like it.Until now only his agent spoke. All he said is that he was happy, he had a good contract and he didn't know what the future would be. Very diplomatic (and truthful) way of saying that if he wants to go he'll go and there's no problem or drama with Spurs about that.

If this makes you yawn again, be my guest, but my choice for him is Man U.

Nemesis

There should be a special award for the fastest adaptation to the Prem, I say it again. Berba is on the team of the year. Please remind me when it was another player achieved that.

Anonymous said...

Mates, he's got special clauses in his contract for sure. Almost all the players have them and Berba has got more brains than most.
The protective clause is 3 years, no matter the lenght of the contract because he was under 28 when he signed it. That means he has to stay for 3 years and then walk for free IF there aren't no special clauses. And there are.If he doesn' play UEFA, he'll go.

AS for his depression, I understand it totally. Look what he achieved in just a few months and look what is around him. He has given it all for Spurs, he's tired and frustrated and he's human.
So, he needs understanding and support, not criticism. THe night of the UEFA defeat he told a Bulgaria sports site he spent the night awake considering all options, even leaving the game for good. That is a man touching his limits. Do please shape up, team and Jol, or he can actually and rightly leave.

Chimbonda was in the team of the year in his first season.

Anonymous said...

Was he? Are you sure? And was his Actim Stats as good as Berba's?

Anonymous said...

Yeah convinced he was. Chims stats were completely different to Berbatovs and they play a different posistion if you hadn't noticed. You asked the simple question "when was the last player to get into the team of the year in his first season" I answered.

Anonymous said...

ok thanks for replying.
as for Actim, I was talking about rank, not playing position. How many points got Chimb in the end? Was he 3rd on defenders top five?

Anonymous said...

Any clause stating he can leave if we don't make europe would not be a rolling one year on year even if such a clause existed, that's an impossible situation that we wouldn't allow.

Anonymous said...

Not sure where chimbonda finished in those ratings. Talking of which, I thought he had a dredfull game on Saturday. I know the 1st goal was his fault but his general play was awful.

Anonymous said...

Clauses: It's not impossible and it's not unique. It's true in Berba's case. Anyway we're talking about now, this year, that's our concern.

I don't believe Chimb finished higher than Berba.

Anonymous said...

If we finish 8th we'll be entering the Inter-toto Cup.... as the highest finishing applicant.

Alternatively we could end up in the UEFA via Fair Play as we are currently the top English club.

We WILL be in European competition of some sort next season, even if it means playing an extra 10 games!

"Jenas was desperate and incredibly stayed on.
Zokora drove forward at every attempt and was subbed."

Harry I think you'll find that the reason why Jenas was kept on and Zokora taken off was perfectly evident in the 94th minute! I'm sure you saw Zokora's two or three efforts on goal (now I say "on goal" even though they finished closer to the corner flag!) What use is a player with absolutely no final product at all when chasing the game? We desperately needed a goal so Jol took off one of the least likely players to score and left on our top scoring midfielder (who has a very good goals to games ratio this season).

Also all those speculating about clauses in Berbatov's contract - there are no such clauses. The only thing that could take him away from us this Summer are a transfer request from him coupled with a huge bid (and I mean huge) from another club.

Anonymous said...

Priceless....if that's what you call tangible progress, I'd hate to see regression.

There is a piece on TopSpurs called Groundhog day and that says it all....the same mistakes, the same problems every time we play a team that has a manager who knows how to organise a team......watch us against Blackburn.

I'm sure that MJ will be here next season, so I'm looking forward to the 2008/9 season, if I live that long.

Good comment Harry. Unlike with you (I hope) any old fool can contribute to these sites so you get any old rubbish spouted on them. I don't always agree with you (eg. I think Jol has out thought Mourinho time and again) but atleast you have a balanced view on things. People on these sites (just like newspapers) are just looking for hits (/circulation).

As for the game we were terrible. A scary number of flaws all the way through the team.
1. Jol never takes off the right player.
2.Chimbonda can't mark.
3. Lennon can't get into games.
4. Zokora tires after doing his shoes laces.
5. King is still a doubt for both form and fitness.
6. We've had about 6 players play left back this season none of which are really any good.
7. Robbo can't catch and seems unable to control his desire to boot it aimlessly.
8. Jenas has the greatest engine known to mankind but can't pass, create or shoot effectively when he gets there.
9. Berbatov looked like he was wondering why he'd signed for a team like this.
10. Keane can't read what any other player is doing, holds on to it for too long, and screams at everyone when he has to move even slightly towards the ball.
11. Huddlestone was brought on to retain possesion but couldn't do it.
12. Oh, and our bench is crap.

Apart from that I am in a very positive mood today. You're right, there has been progress under Jol and we can just thank god we didn't lose again!!

lets stop the cobblers, muppets repeating what other muppets have said and look at some fact, a number of you lot have said about one player in particular because it is a good example.

Janas, record: -

1) More shots on goal than Robbie
2) 2nd highest completion rate for passes
3) Highest number of crosses
4) 3rd best tackler in the club
5) 4th highest scorer with 8

All players have bad games, Berbatov had a tap in at Seville and missed it. Janas is without doubt our best midfielder and you lot getting on his back isn't goin to help.

If your proper fans why can't you get behind the team,

Jenas is over-rated crap, if he was so good he would have got more out of his time in Newcastle, as it is they couldnt wait to get rid of him!
Somebody put a list together saying that Jenas has more shots than Robbie - how many of them actually really tested the keeper? Not many! His distribution is poor, generally sideways or backwards passing (even i could top a list of Prem players doing that and I'm a shit player). The proof is there, for example the past three games that i have been to Jenas has taken every free kick and corner and wasted every single one of them. He make shhot a lot but he misses a heel of a lot more. I know he has a good engine on him but so did Saturdays Marathon winner, doenst make him a good footballer does it?

Calling Jenas crap is ridiculous He's a hard working decent premiership player who every now and again turns in a great performance. However, if Spurs want to get to where they say they want to be in a season or two's time, there's no way Jenas will be good enough for that level. Based on consistancy alone never mind his lack of leadership, passing and creativity. In my opinion it's just a matter of when, not whether he'll get sold or dropped to squad level.

Of course I could be wrong but I've seen nothing since his arrival to convince me otherwise. In the meantime, he's a Spurs player and should be supported fully, everytime he takes to the pitch.

Go on the Spurs!
