It was the second Wigan goal that really killed me. Why was another pot shot successful and moreover, why did Robiinson use his right hand to touch a ball that was nearer his left?

The word has been out for years that Spurs are not good at defending.
maybe it was just a good goal, and maybe you should go and peel potato's or something instead of writing 'cheap pot shots' at our keeper
No, it wasn't a good goal anon, mate it was another dramatic dive and pot shot success.
It's potatoes.
It's time for Cerny aswell...
idiot
Ive said on another thread that i believe opposing teams prob.. shoot on sight when they see him in goal and i stand by that 100%. I dont know whats happened to him but hes lost the plot this season. Its not like a one off bad game, hes consistantly poor now, totally unreliable. You can count on one hand the number of good games hes had for club or country in the last year. I hope he sorts it out but ive been hoping that for a while now. "cheap pot shots at our keeper" Are you trying to say its undeserved. What the hell have you being watching this year. How dare we criticise our keeper. Believe me i wish we didnt have to but this has gone on for long enough. Sort your s**t out robbo.
"peel potato's or something instead of writing 'cheap pot shots' at our keeper" - f**k off, Robinson's dive on the 2nd goal was bl**dy joke.
As the last guy said, what have you been watching all season? I want Cearny in the side more too.
Quite right, let's drag Robbo out onto the street and club him to death and them birch him for being shite.
Last season Robbo looked a god keeper, this season his positioning and shot stopping have been poor. I go to every home game and actually being there you see far more than on the TV. His lack of command of his box puts the entire defence out. He never seems to give the defenders a shout. The corner against Seville which led to the goal when Ledley headed behind unnecessarily was a good example. The weakness with long shots started with the first game against Bolton and has gone on all season, and yes I'm sure the opposition knows it and is having a go, Robbo has been beaten by some fantastic shots, and by some very weak ones. But the more the opposition feels it is worth having a go the more chance of a screamer like Baines shot. Neil Sullivan looked really good his first season at Spurs, and then look what happened....
I agree mate, when your at the games you can sense the hesitancy from him.
7.63 anon grow up mate.
Sorry should be anon 7.36 of course
dunno about Leighton Baines, bring back Barry Daines I say - for those of us old enough to remember ;-)
Englands Englands No1 - Paul Robinson, by a country mile. He's had a few dodgy games unfortunately, but they're all on TV these days huh and seen by all?
Do you not think he has saved us more points over the last 3 seasons than cost us ? Think about it. And you wonder why they call us lot fickle......
COYS
Its obvious to me and I'm amazed no one else has noticed it. Paul Robinson is short sighted but wont come out of the short sighted persons closet. He is in denial. He needs to get along to' specsavers' before we classify him as a 'shotsaver'
Come on Robbo, out of yer closet mate.
Point taken, Dannyboy, but the theatrics are winding me up.
And have any of us NOT dumped him from our Fantasy Footy teams long long ago?
So dannyboy you think robbo is englands no 1 by a mile. Id say its fair to say you just might be wearing your spurs tinted glasses. Would you still think that if he played for man.u, arsenal , or chelsea i doubt it. The guy is playing like a plank and has being for a long time. It might be "fickle" if i had based this judgement on his last few performances but thats not so. Its based on performances for club and country for the last year. I suppose coming from a man that thinks our central midfield for next season should be 2 of (jenas thud zakora) i shouldnt be that surprised. Thank god your not the manager.
i'm not sure where i stand on robbo's form between the sticks at the moment, since it seems as though one second he'll be really disappointing, and the next he'll pull off a terrific save... but while that's not much to offer this board, i do think its important for us to acknowledge the strength of robbo's distribution from the box to anywhere on the pitch, cause few keepers are close to him on that, and you'd lose it with cerny. Just look at keano's second, robbo should get some credit for that along with about five other goals (mostly from keano) that have come from his quick and accurate full field passes. With the good comes the bad, just hope that his dip coincides with watching the shaky defense he's defended by!
If you remember, when we got him from Leeds they told us he was an overweight pile of shite, not sure if i agree with that entirely but then again he has been a little bit Ooo, little bit Eee, little bit Ooo.
I say leave him alone, warts and all. He is not one of our major problems.
striveforspurfection
who would be your centre midfield?
coys
Yeah the word is out on Robbo.
I particularly hate how he only waves to his bum buddies in the Park Lane, when everybody in the Shelf Side is also chanting 'England's Number One'
I need validation in my life. As from now, I will refuse to chant it until he waves to me and only me personally. Actually if he came up to me personally and shook my hand and said 'Keep up the good work Danny, you truly are the best Spurs fan.... ever'
I don't ask too much do I ?
Must be a lot of ex keepers talking...Zoo Keepers. If you looked at that shot it was at it's highest point when it went over Robbo's dive (correct hand when at full stretch as it happens)No mention of the other point blank saves that earned the point. So back off and get back to feeding the monkeys.
RE: Robbo's distribution...I actually think this has been very poor this season. Countless times he presents possession back to the opposition with overhit/inaccurate long balls, so often these go all the way back to their keeper or out for throw in's.
Remember, his goal against Watford was just another overhit long ball that took a stupid bounce.
Robbo was by and large our best player last season getting us out of numerous deep holes, however this season he has hd mor off days than Pat Butchers sylist! His distrubution is good thats accepted but lest we forget we couldnt keep a clean sheet for over 20 games, yes the defence should take some responsabilty but they seem to lack confidence in the man they have behind them, this season in my opinion he has cost us the points in some crucial games, ie Man U away. Secondly on now is he starting gto look slightly lean after pre-season, is he gonig to come back in preseason the size of Johnny vegas!!! I believe his fitness regime has been all wrong this year and as a result so have his displays. Hands Segers should have seen this and taken note and this is probably the reason why we bought mr gangbang Alnwick however he is still too young and i dont necessarily think that he is good enough as if he was keano wouldnt have got rid! PS our midfield for next year should be Lennon Thudd Jenas/Zakora Van Der Vaart if available! COYS
Last week we was behind the goal against seville when robbo was warming up and he fumbled a shot that nearly when in as you do messing about and he turned round and said give me a break we have not started training yet it was all a bit of harmless fun really but robbo was really arsy about it.
i also agree that his confidence is low with england and spurs.
the amount of goals from distance this year have been terrible and he does not want to come out for crosses that is what cerny does do well.
I agree that he has let in screamers from outside the box this season. I do think that because of his current form, managers have told their midfielders (or defenders) to shoot from range - if it is spilled, the temporary flaky defence will make a hash of it and they'll get another chance anyway.
I think the defence should take more of the flak here; they should not let them get a shot in from those kind of positions. Saying that, England's no.1 should be able to deal with long shots or lobs - wasn't that Seaman's undoing?
I think Robbo is great though, he is enthusiastic, and a motivational keeper. I really hope he gets back into the form he was in last season - next season.
However... I am yet to see him save a penalty!
COYS!
He has saved a couple of penalties - Braga this season, West Ham last... just off the top of my head...
Obvioulsy you people have never played football to a good standard, when a goalkeeper is diving to his left hand side his right hand can actually reach higher than that of his left as his left arm is at a lower point to the ground, thus why nine times out of ten a goalkeeper will go for the ball coming across him with "the wrong hand", you understand??
As an ex keeper myself, I've lost a lot of faith in Robinson this season. I agree with the originating post about the Wigan goal, I would have expected Robinson to have stopped that. I don't agree that he went with the wrong hand though, his technique was in that regard was just fine. Possibly his view was obscured, but he didn't move quickly enough. The mark of any good goal keeper is being able to take at least one, possibly two, steps towards the ball before committing to a dive. This not only allows you to cover more ground, but gives you additional momentum going into the dive. You will notice Robinson dived from a static standing position. I think he's overweight, possibly short-sighted and not agile enough to cover good distance. As a reflex shot stopper, he's excellent - but so are many of the keepers in the Prem.
Secondly, as others have pointed out, he does not command his area. There are numerous crosses he should be coming for that he doesn't. Just look at how many goals we've conceded from set pieces this season - I'm not saying he's at fault for all of them, but certainly some would have been prevented by some more dominance of his area.
Finally, his distribution is poor. Yes, we've scored a few goals this season from his boot onto the front man, but he seldom releases a quick medium-long distance throw. He frequently over cooks his kicks - just make a record over the next few games of how many times we lose possession once the ball is in his hands, and compare that to the opposing keeper.
He still will continue to make some great saves, and I will cheer his name when he does so - but I'm not convinced he's the right man for the job. I was reasonably impressed with Cerny in the few games that he played, but don't know if he should be our number one either.
sorry but robbo as much as i like him has been poor this year and let's remember he was good last year but still prone to the odd clanger and cerny is no improvement at all so we have to stick by him he's a good shot stopper but he get's beat too many times from long range so that say's something about his postional play and for keeper of his size he should be commanding his area something van der sar and cech do really well even little shay given comes for more crosses than robbo, but there is plus his distribution is excellent most of the time.
Robbo came to us and looked to be the best English keeper by a long way. Since then what's happened? He's been coached by that plank Hans Segars!! I reckon we need a new goalkeeping coach and we could also use a defensive coach. Robbo has lost confidence but it's nothing a good goalkeeping coach couldn't put right. GET RID OF HANS SEGARS!!!
He's awful - cost us loads of points. It's been time for Cerny for some time. England's no1 joker is all robbo is now..
maybe thinking that a goalkeeper is only as good as the defence in front of him would help. robbo does need to command the box better tho. until then we'll concede as many as we score
There is no doubting Robbo has had a very bad season and Im surprised he has'nt been dropped.
I've said on a number of occasions for the last few months, he's got problems coming out and claiming crosses. Its like hes superglued to his line and scared to come off it and i dont understand why? Hes 6ft 4 and should come out take the ball take the player and take the presssure of our defence. Its just causing chaos in our box, anything in the 6 yard area and just out should be his.
I do like Robbo but im sorry at least 10-15 goals this season should have been easily prevented.
The first and third goal against Wigan says it all.
COME OUT AND F****** CLAIM THE BALL
The word on Robbo has been out for some time.
I've had with him, he does my nut in he's just a bag of nerves, scared to come off his line and too slow.
Has anyone seen Alnwick play yet?
Na never seen him but I bet he's better then Robbo
He saved a Braga penalty???where was that?in virtual reality? IDIOT !
Why is it always when a keeper makes a mistake everyone's on his back, yet when a player makes a mistake it's 'fair enough'. These players have to get past 10 out field players before the Keeper is involved! He's only made a few mistakes this season. Outfield players make hundreds a season. (possible over exaggeration)
If it was easier to get with his left hand, he would have gone for it with his left hand!
And for all those calling for Cerny ..... trust me, you don't want that.
It's easy to judge, but hard to do!
Plus, you have to remember that every goalkeeper is crazy! And every now and then they have to do something outrageously crazy to re-iterate that point.
COYS
he's not awful by a long shot (ooohh). I think the problem is like with much of spurs' play at the moment he tries to look too good and also probably thinks he's better than he is (jenas, robbie keane i'm looking at you). The Baines shot is an example, he misjudged it and thought he could save it with the wrong hand which would have looked like a great save, unfortunatly it didn't happen.
A keeper is judged by his mistakes not his saves.
Any fool knows that a gooner will wet himself about how great Seaman was, but as we all know he was protected by a solid defence and his frailties were exposed on more than one occasion....our defence is not that tight this season,(has it ever really been?) thus Robinson's performance and ability has come to note.
Robinson HAS cost us more points than he has saved us. He does not command the box, Robinson it seems at times would rather punch the ball out rather than claim it, which is poor/hurried keeping.
I thought the days of Keller punting the ball aimlessly down the middle of the park had gone after Robinson joined, but Robinson takes it to a new level...and don't tell me he meant for his hoof to connect to Keane on Sunday...his distribution is without thought for position of the players or pace of the game.

I bet the bastard who wrote this is ugly as a monkey's ass and rotten with envy.
u call yourself spurs fans and all you lot are doing are having diggs at robinsons and the defence. robinsons has saved tons of times ok the defending has not be great but we have miss leadly but DAWSON has been best defence we have had in years
In Robbos defence, theres another contributing factor to these wundergoals: our defence/midfield not shutting people down quickly enough. Carvalhos goal was an example - he carried that ball for what seemed like forever then add rochas schoolgirl like leap out of the way. Chimbonda was making his way out to baines when he hit it on sunday and stopped in his tracks and turned his back so he's not getting many favours!
And to the anon chap above slating somebody for saying he saved a pen against braga - he did, in the away leg only for the taker to score with the rebound. So wind your neck in!
If the players argued as much as we have recently then the games will be lost before we start.
Big game on Saturday and Woolwich will be up for it. We have to be more so.
I think its about time you leave robinson alone for when he is playing for england and tottenham and start blaming the people that are in front of him everytime we concede a goal like that everyone blames robbo if the defenders start just stand up to the ball and not turn there back on it we will have less goals scored against us now shut up with blaming robbo
yeah, get off his back you ignorant morons, he's made a few mistakes- big freaking deal, all keepers do, David James? best english keeper? well he's made a few howlers this season, but do you hear Pompey fans baying for blood? No. Cerny? you want him in do you, well what happens when he makes a few mistakes, sacrifice him too? The whole Spurs team have run hot and cold this season, including Berb, who didnt exactly set the pitch alight against Chelsea and Sev, so stop looking for scapegoats. And harry how about shrinking ya banner a bit, you selfr publicising prick
Anon 3.58pm
You make a good point about the banner size but why did you have to express yourself so aggressively and rudely? Do you think it gives you more authority? Makes you sound more tough? Don't get me wrong, I think a well placed expletive helps punctuate a point or sentence to great effect, but when constantly used, it gets very boring very quickly and not only loses its effect but has the opposite effect due to it going from adding strength to taking it away from what's being said.
Just a thought.
Cue responses full of swearwords from high quality web comedians.
Get off his back you critical idiots. I defy anyone to demonstrate that robbo has cost us 10-15 goals as some pranny on here stated. He's our best goalkeeper for a long time, probably since Clemence.
If you're not slating someone, you're not happy. So far this season, it's been Defoe, Jenas, Zakora, Ghaly, Lee, Keane etc. Why not sell them all huh? Either that or move your loyalties 2 miles down the Seven Sisters Road and support the scum.
You lot of negative moaning whingers really piss me off. I know, lets go back to the mid-table mediocrity we were up until 2 years ago. I'm all for constructive criticism, but all I see on here is he's short-sighted, overweight, no confidence blah blah blah. God only knows what you'll all be like WHEN we win a trophy and you're all singing the praises of your heroes you bunch of hypocritical tossers.
COYS
....and Harry, your clock is an hour slow !!!
I really dont believe all this how dare anyone criticise our keeper bulls**t. Or any of our players for that matter. Maybe your so used to watching crap now its readily accepted. But not here my friends. Paul robbinson is playing and has being playing like a prat for some time now. I aint no knee jerk man this has been going on for too long. Nothing would please me more than too see the guy come back to top form but ive been waiting for that for a while now.I dont believe its too much to ask the guy too be playing close to peak form for 70-80% of the time instead of the opposite. I also dont believe its too much too ask a supposed pro footballer to actually look like a pro instead of an out of condition michilin man. Dannyboy i really cant figure out how much of spurs you actually watch because some of the s**t you come out with is beyond belief. Robbo has cost us an untold amount of goals this season. So if you and your merry band want to follow him and others with blind faith dont expect us with our eyes open to follow suit. For what its worth about next seasons midfield id like too think theres only half of next years regular midfield presently at the club. For theese reasons id go for- ??/??/zakora/lennon.
"Christine Jones (Shelf Side) said...
If the players argued as much as we have recently then the games will be lost before we start."
That's the wonderful thing about being a Tottenham fan, we can argue as much as we want...
amongst ourselves.
But God help an outsider that tries to join in :-)

you seem to me to be quite clueless. yet again you're someone who wants 50% of our midfield replaced? jenas not good enough? thud not good enough? fickle fickle fickle. yes, we need a left midfielder, not necessarily a winger. but you seem to be a chop and change merchant since you crawled out from under your stone.
robbo = michelin man ? i know, lets bring back mark kendall or bobby mimms, remember them ? lots of criticism for robbo on here, but no-one seems to suggest worthwhile alternatives. he HAS made a few errors this season, but the way he is criticised you'd think he single handedly cost us uefa, carling and FA cups !!
you're like my ex - not happy unless you're moaning. and as you ask, ive missed watching about 3 games this season and had lovely czech beer in prague.
now sod off and say something original or justified rather than jmping on an easy band wagon.
COYS
Yeah, alright Grandma. Ha, I can imagine you in the Park Lane end- 'Come on chaps I think we've used up our quota of swear words today, and you for goodness sake stop being so aggressive to the ref, you've referred to him as a c@@t a hundred times now and it's really not having the desired effect, how about interspersing your oration with something a little more subtle in the future and delivering the aforementioned c@@t word at approx 92 mins and 30 seconds for maximum potency.
Michael I dont buy this good distribution arguement one bit. Bogging it down to our strikers every single time is a joke. How often do we actually win possesion, once in a blue moon. The rest of the time it comes straight back at us. Now that might be all right against poor teams but proper teams will end up punishing you badly when u keep giving them the ball cheaply.
Dannyboy you are a clown and so is anybody else that thinks that muppet jenas is good enough for any top 6 team. Please rather than coming out with the same auld s**t would you justify that muppets place on our team. What has he ever done for spurs please tell me.
All the fun of the fair on HH today, eh?
Barry Daines? When real men wore SHORT shorts!!
Shrink my banner? What size would the joyless, aggressive little cyber thug like it changed to?
strive 4 spurfection
would rather you reply to the justified points i raised rather than banging on about jenas - yet another victim of your so called expert opinion. to justify my opinion on him, it seems too coincidental that when we went on the bad streak at christmas, it seemed to be just at the time he was out for about 7 weeks? and we seemed to improve as soon as he got back in the team? i call that justification.
i'm glad you like my big red nose, spinning bow tie, yellow wig, red braces and size 57 shoes. i wore them just for people like you ;-)
have you got a thing with cuddly toys? all these references to muppets and clowns !!!

Jenas is a top six player but only if he works on his passing. i don't mean the flash stuff, I mean accuracy.
Sick of wayward passes!!!!!!!!!
the inverse size of your ego will do, so no one can see it
Coco what are you on about. What would you like me to reply too ?? What points exactly did you raise. And just because i have an unbiased & unblinkered view doesnt mean i claim too be an expert. Furthermore i think your justification of jenas is laughable. I think our upturn in form is that we were so bad that the only way was up. By the way whos place did the mighty jenas take?? Your justification dosent say much for poor old thud than does it if swaping him for jenas made such a big difference.
strive 4 spurfection
look mate, fellow spurs fan, kindred yid. we can now do 1 of 2 things at this point. either just agree that i'm right or rant and rave like the 2 cyber nerds at the bottom of this page and then agree i'm right ! love it.
mate, jenas is a top 6 player - box to box, scores goals, tackles, great engine, he just needs to become more consistent. lets not forget he is still only about 23?
now, finish your homework, you've got school tomorrow ;-)

Judging from your posts I'd have thought she was well your cuppa tea. Psychobabble? Hmmm..... were my comments really psychologically extensive enough to be descibed as such? at the end of the day all players have to be responsible for a lot of the goals we have conceded this term...There appears no cohesion across the back four. Dawson is overstretched all the time ( i've lost count the number of times i've seen him flinging himself across the box attempting to block a shot/cross) Chimbonda and Lee are both prone to switching their brains off and Rocha hasn't settled (though he is still 2000 times better than that mug Gardner). I know one player doesn't make a difference but we have sorely missed Ledley who appears to calm our back four and relax them with his assurity (ok he was rusty against Seville but picking him was gonna be hit or miss) Because of the back four's shakiness and inability to defend a cross corner or ball in the box Robbo's been left exposed. Goal keeping is very much a confidence position. If it gets in your head that your worried about the four in front of you then you have a tendency to underperform...yes he's had a few poor games (but who hasn't in a spurs shirt this year) and being in the position he is its alway's going to be magnified.
There have been some screamers scored against him and some you think he should of done better. I think he needs to work on his positioning as he seems to read the play a little slowly - he should never of come out against the scum to allow the tap in making it 2-2 for eg.What i like to see him do more is really bark at his defenders more during the game.Like Schmeichel did - shout at the before something goes wrong rather than after.....show his presence and organise our traditionally flaky defence with his orders. That will help him command his area and might help organise our back line...(lets be honest what spurs fan doesn't have their heart in their mouths everytime a bal is whipped into the box???)
i wouldnt swap him for any other keeper in the prem...he'll be back have faith guys..just my opinion anyway guys COYS
Robbos shit robbos shit he's worse than Jason Lee.
very true, Ledley's calming influence on Dawson cannot be under estimated and I think that extends to Robinson too
I will reserve the relative merits/disadvantages of Jenas to others to debate...we could have a worse playing in the centre..Look how well Michael Brown is doing.
I would however like to note that whatever you make of him, Jenas tackling is dire and gives the ball away to cheaply.
Nothing to do with the subject - but is anyone going boro away on 28th never been up there before just wanted to know if theres a decent boozer near the ground??
Must try to sort out that car hire ad. Apologies folks, it's horizontal on my machine...

In all this excitement Ive forgotten the question, what was it?
David Dein has resigned from the scum. Can this be a sign that all is not well down at the emishites?
would you not swap him for cech, given, or van der sar ???

But only if you're over 16. Phone paedophilia will not be accepted on this site.
i am a huge spurs fan, but that doesnt change the fact that Robbo is a shit keeper, he has been that for the entire season aswell as the previous season, he just isnt good enough. its about time we stopped talking about his form and opened our eyes and acknowledged the fact that he is pure rubbish.
when was the last time robbo saved points for spurs!? i sure cant remember, what else that is difficult to remember is all the times he has lost us points.
get rid of him now!!
The majority of poor performances this season have been a direct result of unfortunate injuries suffered. Some players have severely underperformed, but the season would be completely different had King been present throughout, our defense as a whole not been decimated, and new players become acclimated sooner. There is also the fact that in Premiership games without Lennon this season Spurs have 5 losses, 3 draws and 3 wins. One would think that there could be at least 4 more points with him in for half of those games.
For next season: Robinson has played poor at times, but I believe the porous defense has contributed to his bad image. I for one say give him a chance to finish out the season and the start of next. If problems continue then make a decision. I don’t think there is a need for any rash wide spread changes for next year either, just cover. Why are people are so low on BAE. He always looked great going forward, has pace and can put in a good cross. Why not give him and Taraabt a go at LM, Mido out and give Peckhart and Barcham a chance, bring in a QUALITY CB for cover, get Jenas a proper motivational therapist (once he becomes consitent he will be a force!), and buy anyone who can tackle and has a left foot as an LB (I doubt we get Bale, plus I think BAE could still come around). The only players that should be sold are Mido and Murhpy.
As far as Ghaly is concerned… every team needs a physical player that doesn’t back down and will be an enforcer if needed.
