Should Mido Leave Tottenham?

Signing with Pascal

Working off his third large Donner

Mido's return was something many of us wanted.

I remember running a piece on here 'welcoming him home'. But his performance yesterday was abysmal. An embarrassment to himself and the club.

He came on within two minutes had sweated up like a racehorse. And there the similarities ended. Although his contribution after that, it could be said might have been good stuff to put on your rose beds.

BMJ cannot legislate against a player having a poor game, however how did this porker get onto out of the bench? He is obviously overweight and out of condition.

What really angered me was that he had only been on for about five minutes and he was just plodding around as if he had been killing himself for the past 60 instead of sat down drinking Lucazade.

Surely our reserves would have generated at least one replacement that was able to run his heart out for the team and give it his all?

Even poor Stuart Pearce wouldn't touch him after Sunday.

What a sack of spuds.

Rubbish.

Yes he should leave Tottenham- he was an embarrassment and was so out of condition he should never have made it to the subs bench! He always looks sluggish when on the field and i cant see what he offers apart from the occasional header here and there. SELL HIM!!

Anonymous said...

There's clearly something wrong with the club's training and fitness regimes if this is allowed to happen.

I think that questions about whether Mido, or any other player should leave need to consider who do we replace him/them with ? If we get say Zigic this summer then maye you have an argument. Some people would also like to get rid of Ghaly ...but yesterday he showed us a bit of what he could do ... What do we really expect from second string players ? Maybe if we played him more he wouldn't be so fat ? Anyway, I think we'll need him against Watford on Saturday as if yesterday proved one thing, it was don't play your top players 48 hours before a big match.

Anonymous said...

I remember something about him paying for a Brazilian specialist to get him back in condition… On a positive note, he did have a nice hair cut. In the light of the "barnet" situation I wouldn't really like to speculate on what the Brazilian specialist's contribution was.

gdp said: This porker helped us beat Fulham in the previous round of the FA Cup, he conjoured a goal from nowhere to help us beat West Ham earlier in the season, he'd been out injured which is maybe why he wasn't in great shape on Sunday but I don't think his weight was an issue - he played his best football last season when he was carrying more weight!

Anonymous said...

After showing no hunger for such a massive game he should never play for the club again. We should be able to sell him to Bolton, I'm sure they would love some cover for Kevin Davies.

Any news about Berby?s groin? I never thought I'd be hanging on a groin. OOOPPPSSS!!!!

fat lazy slob is all he is...hes gotta go asap

Anonymous said...

"Any news about Berby?s groin? I never thought I'd be hanging on a groin. OOOPPPSSS!!!!"

It was an excuse to try and divert the blame from Jol. If there was actually a groin injury at half time as has been claimed do you think he would have been allowed to play 20 more minutes? Of course not.

Anonymous said...

if it's not a serious injury then why not play him to try and get an extra goal? He's clearly our best player and it's the sacrifice they have to make.

John Terry was played in the Carling Cup Final when he was a couple of weeks from fitness, Michael Owen was played in the world cup before his injury was fully sorted so it's not unheard of.

Anonymous said...

Yes he was poor, yes he did look out of shape, but don't berate him for lack of effort when Defoe was the most abject and disinterested player on the pitch in the second half! If anyone should know the importance of yesterdays match it must be him, but he strolled around with no effort and when he did get the ball, as usual makes no effort to pick out a pass to open players! Look up occasionally and you might see someone in a better goal scoring position!!!!!!

I recall Mido's groin injury when he was forced to play against Liverpool for 60 minutes with pain killers because Berby had a fever.

The Club must inform about this situation asap. The fans are entitled to know.

Ashton would be a decent upgrade on Mido once Wet Spam go down

I think Mido is a massive enigma, clearly brilliant some days, then there are the days like yesterday. True that but for Defoe's goalscoring instincts (ie. trying to score everytime you get the ball) he may have seen more ball but sluggish is certainly a word we could use to describe jis cameo. I'm up for giving him starts in the lead up to the Chelscum game because he IS a good player... sometimes. We all know it.

Anonymous said...

NO, I don't think Mido should be sold. Okay, he's out of shape, and he apparantly has a hard time staying in shape... but he is just back from injury... And last season did score 15 goal, so why sell him when he isn't playing... But even if we do sell him, then we really SHOULD NOT buy a player like darren bent or Zigic it is a complete waste of money to use so much money on a fourth attacker... just use the young players we all ready have a lot of...

Anonymous said...

Id rather have a hungry youngster from the reserves than that pudding plodding about like an over weight cart horse

Anonymous said...

one second guys this is the same guy that helped us get in to europe last season,if the dont give him aany playing time what do you expect, didnt here any cries to out him against fulham,it cant be easy to go from first choice to 4th choice all in a season and still stomach sitting on the bench,if you remember all we could do last season was sing his name ,how fickle we are to send one of our players from hero to zero all on the strenght of a few games

Anonymous said...

TWO WORDS - LEE BARNARD we dont need to spend another £10 million on darren bent it's time for some of our home-grown players to be given a chance.

Anonymous said...

Yes please - Taxi for Mido!!!! There is no excuse for havig that much weight because if you are injured then you do something with your calorie intake (i.e. STOP eating the damn pies!) - he did well for us last season but so what? He got paid for it and a lot of people then thought he was playing for a contract - they were proven right - he got his contract and now look at him. Is that Taxi here yet?

Anonymous said...

Mido is an OK back up, but he can only play when we're at home and if he's got Keanno to do the hard work around him. I just think that it doesn't ever work with him and Defoe. I think we probably will bring in a new striker in the summer and it's possible that both Mido and Defoe leave (though I have a funny feeling Defoe will stay). We can only sell Defoe if we get big money for him and I don't think anyone will be stupid enough to put up £10mill +. Anyways, whatever happens get behind Mido cos he's a Yid for the time being and all of our boys need all of the support that they can get! I for one will be singing his name should he start on Weds/Saturday/Mon! Come on you Spurs, lets have another European Tour next season! I loves It!!!!

EL said...

I really couldn't care less whether Mido is overweight or not. If he weighed 20 stone but played well and scored as often as Berbs & Keane that would be fine by me. He just isn't good enough, often enough. The writing was on the wall before we brought him back and doing so was a mistake which we should correct asap.

10 mil for bent?

Oh dear god!

Anonymous said...

tbh, yes his performance was pretty pants against the chelski-lets-buy-to-win team. but its not like he has had much action. and just a few weeks ago he was the one setting up keane for his goals and helped the irish man get back on form which has kept defoe out.

Mido has, can, and will be offering good performances in games which he plays. but at the end of the day, its not mido that threw away the game, its Jol who took off our two most effective players and left the ever-more-useless defoe on the field who spent another game playing himself offside and screaming because he just relies on passes from his teammates instead of actually putting in some effort himself.

Anonymous said...

On the comment about ghally needing to be sold above. STFU tbh. Ghally is probably our next best midfield player after lennon. Fact is that he isnt given enough games to start.

His only negitive side is that he is a bit rash in his tackling and anger, But so is rooney, so was beckham, and so will be alot of great players to come over the next 1000 years.
Ghally offers alot more effort, and box-2-box gaming then any other spurs midfielder

Anonymous said...

Mido is going to need to play either in the braga and or watford game in order for us to have a top team for the replay. we can rest robbo and keane on wednesday as they wont be too much of a prob. Against watford lennon should only play a half to keep him fresh and berbs should play a cameo in both games

EL said...

Re: Previous article discussion.

I would have taken off Berbs & lennon. Put Hud on beside Zokora at the back of midfield to drop back when needed and spray passes when attacking. Leave Defoe up front on his own. Taarabt (on the bench instead of Burch) would float between the right wing & the 'hole'. His pace, aggression, skill and being an unknown quantity would I believe have given chelski's midfield a bit more to think about. Tainio would be inside left.

Of course I've no way of knowing whether this would have been an improvement but I know it would not have been seen or possibly received as an invitation to press on for an equalizer with impugnity. Which they did. I know it's easy to carp from the sidelines/after the event but when Jol put on a 5th defender it just felt so much like a needless capitulation. I like and rate our manager but he has the habit every so often of playing into the oppositions hands (our midfield/first half/west ham) and yet his formation and tactics up until the sub on sunday were a masterstroke.

Sheesh! Whaddaya gonna do?

Don't worry, I'll calm down in a minute.

Anonymous said...

Was Tarabt Adel cup tied? How bout Lee Barnard, why didn´t BMJ used him instead of Mido when he was in better shape!? Let the youngsters prove their worth now, Jol must give them the ultimate test for them and if their policy of youngsters should be realized an USED there then will be an healthy develepment of them.

"Should Mido Leave Tottenham?"

Clear answer: Yes!! And in the next transfer window!!! On a free!!!! And if any fool of a club wants him for £3M, we should accept and bite their hand off for the money!!!

He came on as sub against Chelsea and did nothing worth while. He did not hold the ball any occasion, and the ball kept comming back at us!! Unacceptable!!!

And a brain dead, as Riley kept giving free kicks against him for "backing in". should know by now that he cannot play that way!!!He really needs to learn off Berb!!!!

He also looked badly out of shape, and was shite all round!!!!

I made a comment about Ghally but I didn't say he needed to be sold - I meant that numerous comments on sites like this had suggested that.
Yesterday he showed what he can do and is the sort of battling midfielder we need. His main problem has been losing the ball too often in previous matches ( which people have noticed but not some of his good moves ) give him more games and he'll get better.
Can't understand the Defoe bashers - he nearly won us the game but for Czech tipping his shot onto the bar.
Also,I'd like to see Tarrabt given another run out this week - he could be a useful sub against Chelski - how can he be cup tied ?

Anonymous said...

Mido was a good player last year, he has fitness/weight issues - Jol will probably look to up the standard of our fourth striker next season. Some of you guys would need more faith in Jol - all this negative tactics on sunday stuff is rubbish - Berbs was slowing badly in the second as was Lennon. Gardner was a fair choice as chelsea were playing with three strikers and hitting it long. Jol is a very very good coach - we are lucky to have him - and some of the tactics I see on here are laughable - I read above about leaving Defoe up front on his own in the last twenty - are you mad - it would have been even more one-way

Anonymous said...

Gardner was a fair choice?

Is this really the time to be talking of getting rid of players ?We're on a good run, ok we didn't win on sunday but it was a great game and we've got every chance of fanatstic run in to the end of the season. So we should all be doing our part to support and motivate the players including the likes of Mido who didn't have a great game but then subs often don't produce the goods. So cut the negative crap and focus on the games coming up and save the 'who should go' talk till the end of May.

Anonymous said...

They way i think about it is, he's part of a very decent 4-man strikeforce, and as our (willing) 4th choice forward in the pecking order, is a lot better than Rasiak, who for parts of last season, was keeping either Defoe or Keane on the bench.

Yes only last year.

Now we have Berbs who is mustard at the minute who will only get better with even more entertaining pure football bliss, and playing alongside either Keane or Defoe it's firing on all cylinders.

Yep, Mido needs to lose a few pounds and remind us again he IS valuable, so let him stay as 4th choice for the moment, because we have greater options that neither see him start or be named on the bench.

Defence needs to tighten up, if anything, but i refuse to criticize either players, staff or negative fellow supporters.

For me it's been a great 4 weeks to be a Yid, long may it continue !

U dont need to be a first teamer to run around for 30 mins, u just need to be profess fit.Salteri dont play every week but he can last a match so why cant mido. He should have been sold in jan and used a youth player(barney) for cover.

Mido was shit - but berbatov is clearly our best player and to emulate him would have been impossible for mido. so i think we are being a bit tough - jol is the manager - i would have stuck hudd up front . by taking the best attackers off the field Lennon+berby its obviously giving chelsea the wrong message - sorry but u gotta blame the subs

Anonymous said...

Give Mido a break! He just came back from Injury and wasnt match fit. Mido only came on because Berba's Injury. Recently, Jenas also had a poor game becuase he just came back from Injury too. As strikers both Defoe and Mido need time on the pitch otherwise they lose momentum and match fitness. He loves Spurs and that was all too apparent when we played Arsenal in the Carling Cup. I bet the same fans who moan about Mido also moaned about Lee and Stalteri and now they have had important games this season. We need to support our players in and out of form! COYS!

COUP D'ETAT

Dear HH, how is it you are missing the most interesting thing happening with Spurs for so long? Something is rotten at WHL, gents. And it has just exploded.

It's The Independent, not a tabloid, saying Jol wanted to rest Berbs and he was told to play him. This shows Jol is history, or close. Then Jol got Berbs out and everybody saw what happened. It was not only a tactical blunder, but also a stupid suicide, for it was Mourinho on the other side, not a second rate manager. Then he told everyone Berba was injured. Funny that many fans didn't believe him(perhaps they knew more than they told us). Strange too it was that the Club website didn't provide any news about the injury. And Jol playing Berbs tomorrow would prove he was lying, because nobody heals a groin strain in two days. So, it's logical to believe he wouldn't. And perhaps we would lose. And then?
BUT, ah!ah!, Berbatov told the Bulgarian media (not the UK's--very clever boy!) that he was ready and happy to play anytime, anyday. No injury. He told the world Jol was lying. Of course he also thanked and praised the Club, that same Board that told Jol to play him, that same Board Jol disobeyed when he took him out.

So now, gents, it's Jol or Berbatov. There's no way these two can stay together. Berbatov has a future as a politician. Brilliant Coup d'Etat. I don't think the Jol Out brigade has to shout anymore. The Board will get rid of Jol. Because they had already chosen who's going to stay before the Chelsea game, and Jol proved them right by throwing it all away when he desobeyed them. No wonder the tabloids talked about a long term contract with Berba two days ago...

The only problem is the games we have ahead of us. With this war declared between the Star and the Manager, what is going to happen? I don't have a clue, but I'm dying to see it.
Spuryid

(You may post this one, if you want to, HH)

er, yeah but that depends on whether this story is true. sounds like a load of bollocks to me

Anonymous said...

I didn't want to believe we had a cheating coward as manager. It's unacceptable. It was peculiar that someone with a groin injury could take that free kick as Berbatov did only a few minutes before he was replaced. This is terrible even for the player's reputation. Jol is over and done for me. Call Klinsmann, please.
COYS FOREVER!

Anonymous said...

it's not bollocks Berbs is fit, Jol lied and blundered and the board is looking for a new deal to keep Berbs. that's enough for me.

It's amazing the amount of manipulation the world of football is subjected to. Mourinho said today he'll not talk to the press for a while because they manipulated his words. As if he wasn't the greatest puppet master of all time. Good riddance, but I don't believe he'll keep his big and dirty mouth shut for long.

On our side, I'm astonished. I don't believe for one second Berbatov is lying. If he says he's been and is fit to play it's very easy to see if it's true or not. But someone is lying and it's easy to see who. I've just checked the Team News and there's not one word about the famous injury.Amazing.
To Sportinglife Jol denies the Board interference story, but he doesn't say a word about the injury. Silence again. The journalist writes however that "Berbatov's ongoing groin complaint" will probably leave him on the bench against Braga. How can this be? Will anyone from the media ask the player in person to say if he's injured or not? Jol doesn't have (indeed he cannot) pick him for every game. But he doesn't have the right to say the player is injured to avoid criticism. It stinks, ladies and gents. And one thing I can promise you: I'm going to write to the Club to protest about this way of dealing with the events.I spent a lot of money with the Club every year, I'm entitled to protest.

One last thing I agree with Spuryid, the war is on and I don't know who's gonna win. I know who's losing already: THFC.

Spuryid - where's your Bugarian source for Berbatov announcing he's fit, mate?

Anonymous said...

The Spurs boss responded to suggestions he was told to field Dimitar Berbatov against Chelsea in the FA Cup on Sunday, when the Bulgaria striker scored in the 3-3 draw.

"I can swear that it didn't happen," said the Dutchman. "It's the same if you told my wife I'm gay. You'd have a big laugh.

"Nobody can change my mind or tell me what to do. Even the chairman would have a good laugh about it."

Berbatov's ongoing groin complaint means he could be on the bench for the UEFA Cup last-16 second-leg clash against Braga on Wednesday, although Jol insists he will make the final decision.

Jol also stressed he has a healthy relationship with the Spurs board but is adamant that only assistant boss Chris Hughton or development coach Clive Allen have any influence on the team he selects.

"I love the board members," he added. "They love me, we're good, getting on.

"They can talk about football. Even the chairman, he knows nothing about football but of course he has an opinion. I love to talk about football - after the game."

No, HH, Jol is not class. As things are going, Berba will stay on the bench and will get a lot of "cuddles". I don't like what is going on.We have many players injured and our defence is so weak I fear for what may happen to morrow. And what do the manager and the club do? They make up one more injury in our best player. Sucks!
Anyway, for sources check Sportinglife, ITV and others in English, the Bulgarian source is this one:

http://www.gong.bg/view_article.php?article_id=4494

Maybe one of our Bulgarian friends would translate it and then you can post it. Literally Berba doesn't say a word about Jol or the injury. He JUST says he's ready and fit to play anytime.

The rest of the article is included here:

"Dimitar Berbatov insists he is "ready to play every day" as Tottenham continue their fight for silverware on two fronts.

Martin Jol was reportedly ready to rest the Bulgarian striker for the FA Cup quarter-final clash with Chelsea before changing his mind.

Berbatov scored the opener for Spurs in a thrilling 3-3 draw at Stamford Bridge but was later substituted as he ran out of steam.

Tottenham now face three games in five days as they meet Braga in the UEFA Cup and Watford in the Premiership before their replay against Chelsea at White Hart Lane on Monday night.

He told www.gong.bg: "If Martin Jol decides to play me against Braga, there's no problem. I'm ready to play every day if I have to despite the tiredness."

Berbatov's strike at Stamford Bridge was his 17th of the season, and he claims the goals are his way of repaying Spurs for the way they have welcomed him.

He said: "I am very happy to be here because there's a great collective in this club.

"Everyone in the club accepted me as one of them from my first day and this helped me a lot. My way to thank them is my goals and my way of play."

And I'm gone.

Hello, HH forum:

There are witnesses who heard Berbatov complaining to Jol during the break. Jol isn't lying. ...well, Harry, it seems now that my theory was not that wrong, after all.Berba was protected by the Board or he would never have talked like that. The only wrong part is that perhaps they're not that mad with jol, which is hopeful for the Club. But there's a new king at WHL. Guess now is the time to give him the Captain's armband, that's all he's missing...

Tevez? Ashton? Bent?

That's a good idea. Let's start thinking small.

Tevez can't lace berba's boots! As for Ashton and bent forget it! can't hold a candle to our current squad. There must be a few kids in Bulgaria who see him as the don and want to follow in his footsteps. Get him an apprentice!

As for Mido; Should he leave tottenham? No, but he should get his head down, or up, and start doing himself credit and he will be recognised.it must be hard to be back up to the bberbaking every week. We all know what he can do. Let's hope he gets a chance to redeem himself soon . Istill love him for scoring at the scum to make extra time.

The don in Bulgaria? huuummmmhhh you mean the khan. They're originally from Asia and the title of kings is khan. Check the Bulgarian Empire history.
