Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur: Player By Player

Cerny
~ The gulf between first and second goalies was traditionally vast.
As Tomasz Kuszczak demonstrated for Man Utd, times have changed. Maybe we've become conditioned by Robinson's barrel rolls, but he did seem very static. That apart, good stuff.

Stalteri ~ Really up against it all day. One silly foul, but otherwise a huge step up in class. Got the measure of Robben a good few times.

Rocha
~ A real performance at last. plenty of assertive headers, plenty of decisive clearances. Thank the sweet lord, I thought we'd bought a pup.

Dawson ~ Solid, but this was Chelsea and all about avoiding contact that would result in free kicks. So no time, just pressure. He stood up well as ever.

YP Lee ~ Another credible performance. My fear with him is he seems a bit fragile, but Sunday saw him getting stuck in. More of this please, YP.

Gardener ~ Give me a break. This lad needs to wake up. Using your arms in a tackle when you're 6'4" is a hand written invitation for a card. Stupid stupid stupid.

Zokora ~ There's more in store. His mopping up in midfield/ edge of the area saved us endlessly. The penetrating runs are a delight. His wonky shots were not. I do think there is a thunderbolt goal coming soon...

Gahly ~ The determination that resulted in the goal was fantastic. But I am becoming increasingly fed up with him conceeding free kicks. Great goal, never the less.

Malbranque ~ Invisible. I can't work out if his first half performance was better than his second or vice verse.

Tainio ~ Not as commanding as Thursday night. But then Chelsea ain't SC Braga.
He has strung together a run of excellent performances and this was yet another. Reliable with accurate passing.

Lennon ~ Positive: Outsprinting Chelsea for every bloody ball for the first half. Lovely touches. Negative: His corners were memorably under-hit. Against Chelsea you need to maximise set plays, not surrender them.

Mido ~
Fat, no really. Made Heskey look like Tara Palmer Tompkinson. Sweated up like a racehorse and there the with one similarities end. Get Pearce on the 'phone.

Defoe
~ Had is late shot gone in and not rattled the bar he would have been carried aloft out of Fulham by a smiling crowd. As it was, he didn't and he probably struggled to get a seat on the tube home. Who'd be Jermain Defoe?

Berbatov
~ It was a to guard against a possible groin strain. I nearly started to weep. We lost not only a striker and a tackler but we lost our magic
. I thought
he was bionic. I want my money back.

Interesting to see that both Gardner and Malbranque gave a barracking since they hardly played...

Did Malbranque play in the first half? What about Ghally?

Did you watch the match at all??
Then maybe you should put Ghaly in your starting 11 instead of Malbranque??

...and Daws..!!!!

Malbranques invisible first half display was because he wasn't actually on until the 61st minute. Hence you failed to ention ghaly who i thougt had a good game considering his inconsistent amount of starts! Took the goal well and gave us a physical presence.

Why doesn't the Captain for the day get a mention?

HH, you obviously didnt even watch the match mate. Ghaly and Daws started and there is NO mention of them. Malbranque was invisible in the first half because we WASN'T on the pitch in the first half!!! A load of old toilet talk mate. scrub it and start again i'd say. COYS lets do em at the Lane!!!!!!

Chelsea's best player was Martin Jol. Don't buy the rubbish about groin strains. That's just attempting to deflect rightful criticism. Do you really think he would have said that if we had won?

Another armchair overnight expert. Get back to your knitting and stop pontificating on my club you nonce.

"Chelsea's best player was Martin Jol" - Anon, mate, you are a mug. Dont come on here with your negative bollox. No wonder you left your name out. I hate this negative i hate Jol brigade. If we win a trophy this season you shouldnt be allowed to join in the celebrations...you probably wouldnt either you miserable sod...youd hold a solitary protest outside WHL with a banner saying "One trophy isnt good enough, JOL OUT!" You berk!!!

I missed Ghaly off my list!

i think mj made the worst decision by bringin of azza and berbs coz they were da best two players on the pitch. rocha, great game soon. used his head well and was confident. gardener, ur a junior, sort it our or piss off. malbranque is so so poor, and mido is just a waste of space. ghaly proved himself on sunday, got amonst it well, silly free kicks but he just wants to win the fans over... bless him. we arent good enough at shutting up shop yet which is so annoying. we should have looked for the counter attack at the end and kept on lennon to cain it up. as for defoe... sharpen up son or you will be leaving for someone like aston villa next season bro

Thanks to all those who lept down my virtual throat.

The players listed were all those who played, not just eleven.

I missed Ghaly off, forgive my sin.

The Malbranque comment was intentional as it was intended to reflect how little he did when he came on.

Glad to see the web is still bustling with pedants and arseh*les.

I know you just said it HH, but come on people - IT WAS A JOKE about steed! He was invisible when he came on, so when he wasn't on the pitch it felt the same.

Good to see you gave the captain a good review!!

really sad to see that no one has given cerny the credit that he deserves ,to me he was awesome and if robbo is out for a while then so be it our goal is safe in cerny hands .when was the last time your saw mouhrino take off his best players whether they are winning or not so why do we ,i love jol and ill forgive him anything but please think about the messege you send to the opposition when you take off our best players.Ghaly deserves a mention i think he really fought for the cause, and our support was amazing makes you proud to be a yid .coys

LOL HH, your dry sense of humour was lost a bit on some here, but I enjoyed it!! Think you could have given a little more credit to JD, he did set up the first goal with that run of his huh? But all in all another good article!

Are you daft? I don't understand you lot. How can you say that Berba should have stayed??!! Maybe the gods will listen to your intelligent thinking and give him an injury for the rest of the season. And you go on singing his praises and the love you have for him. If that's love, give him hate, ffs.Pricks!!

Hopefully at WHL and injuries permitting, Keane and Berbatov are fit I am strangely filled with more confidence than I would normally be when facing Chelsea.

As for yesterday, going ahead so early is, as ususal, no good for the heart when watching Spurs.

I must question though..Why for fat franks's second, did Defoe stand on the outside of the post...? Also as ususal the set pieces were woeful, Lennon although skillful is soft on shooting, he can't kick a ball more than 20 yards, so why does he atempt to take corners sometimes ?

Good performanace by Spurs of late but I still wonder what they do in training day in, day out..

I thought Simon davies had a quiet game alongside Malbranque....
