Tottenham Hotspur : We Don't Want Much, We Just Want Heroes

I thought Tottenham pretty much mirrored Manchester United's performance against Sarfend except that Cardiff didn't have anyone in the same qualty bracket as the gum chewing chav enfant Eastwood to finish us off.

Spurs looked nervy, heavy footed and like they were looking forward to being back on the coach to London.

But a team with supposedly rejuvinated aspirations to silverware shouldn't be so easily bumped out of their comfort zone as they were today.

Mentions in dispatches? Only Malbranque. He has the grit and purpose required. He's only been with us a short while and I am quite a fan. On numerous occasions our desire this season has been called into question. His desire is unquestionable. Every time I see him he is ready and wanting to get stuck in. More please.

Now what? Well, there two immeadiate tasks. The first is to dispatch Cardiff at The Lane. And non of this extra time rubbish. Two or three nil, freight them up with autographed shirts, dvds, keyrings etc etc and goodnight.

The second is to start looking like contenders. Like a team that might just outplay whoever comes our way, regardless of the pitch, regardless of their rank. We don't want much, we just want heroes.

We are still suffering badly from having too many hardworking midfield journey-men, no left winger and at times no right winger. Cardiff are a more than useful championship side who were always going to take this game seriously and they were at home. Until we buy ourselves a very talented creative front midfielder (not Jenas, Murphy, Zokora or Tainio) and a good pacey left footed left winger, we will continue to be a team who's best efforts might just get them a top 6 or 7 finish. Given this view, i'll take a draw away to cardiff and a win at home. Stranger things have happened but I really can't see us getting past any of the top 4 to win a trophy this season. In the league cup for instance you're talking about beating arse or pool over 2 legs then beating chelski.
Of course I'd love to see it and will cheer and support all the way but....

Do you reckon?

Go on the Spurs!

A crap of a match in Cardiff: no spice, no grit, all too careful and tasteless. sorry, harry, but this team won't beat Liverpool or Arsenal. The future under MJ looks gloomy. Sorry, but that's the truth !

very dissapointed. really felt that we should be up to beating characters like Cardiff away. good point about manure however. but i do feel we're only just clinging on to everything at the mo.

I am dissapointed today because we should really beat teams like Cardiff and we couldn't do that. But when they come to the lane we will beat them convingicly.

good point about manure maybe, but lets not forget they started with a virtual reserve side i think, we had what could be considered a full strength team.

honest opinions - we were rubbish. we had no fight. no creativity. no bollocks. it pains me to say it, but they were up for the fight, we weren't.

davenport was solid, malbranque I agree with. the rest - awful.

I think Jol should do a Curbishley - drop the players in the side on reputation and pick 11 who will fight for the Tottenham cause. being controversial, confidence starts from the back - is robbo full of confidence at the minute? how on earth is he captain? how can he influence a team from goal? don't think so - bench him.

i love my spurs, never red blah blah blah. it's time they gave us something to be proud of.

I don't know what the deal is with Robinson.

The phrase 'England's No#1' is wearing thin. The near post fumble this afternoon was a mistimed foul up that could have put us out the competition.

The list of howlers, long range weaknesses etc are well documented.

I have championed Defoe being given an extended run with Berba in order to provide him with some first team consistency to improve his game. So can I then in the next breath call for the 'benching' of a goalie who is frequently exposed?

Answers on a now very well thumbed postcard

harry - are you agreeing that robinson should be dropped?

'I don't what the deal is'.

Will benching him do any actual good? Will he shape up as a result? I'd like to think it would but I fear it would be a reactionary move that mid season could cause even more harm.

Anyway. What do YOU think?! Lol..

you championed defoe, you dig the guy, but, sorry to say, he's selfish ( seen it again today) and things don't happen when he's got to work for the others.the worst for me though is the lack of leadership. it's affecting everyone. Jol has to sell players, buy others and give the team atrategic aims. more than anything else Spurs are lost in the maze, the only reference they truly have is the home crowd. this is pathetic and extremely dangerous. maybe we don't need heroes at all. maybe we only need warriors with a good captain and a battle/war plan.

1 question for you all..... Have you ever watched the FA cup before? This was always gonna be a difficult game, on a shit surface with no wingers, and out captain missing. FFS, I'm glad we've got them back to the lane where we can play proper football, the weather was absolute sh!t... and don't forget, this team wants to be in the premiership next season, they're not a bunch of mugs, it's also one of the most intimidating away grounds in the league... the future looks gloomy cos we drew away with Cardiff, listen to what you're nsaying, those who are surprised about yesterday are obviously people who know nothing about the FA cup and nothing about what it means to teams like Cardiff when they get the chance to play againt the big boys.... and we are the big boys, we're still the big boys, and we will be for years to come, so stop your moaning and enjoy the fact we've got another cup game to watch at the comfort of our own home! First class common sense from dan mac. Nice one.

dan mac, yes we've just arrived in England and never heard of Cardiff or the FA Cup before!! it's not moaning, it's good criticism. how come the other big guys win and we don't? changes are needed and they should be sorted out during January, or else...

we played for the draw. berbs did a hell of a defensive work especially on the 2nd half. ask Jol, he's the boss.
